Opponents of French President Emmanuel Macron’s pension plan are staging an eighth round of strikes and protests Wednesday as a joint committee of senators and lower-house lawmakers examines the contested bill.

The latest step in the legislative process to raise the retirement age from 62 to 64 is prompting a peak of political tensions and one key question: Will the bill command a parliamentary majority?

Meanwhile, unions are hoping the 200 demonstrations taking place across the country will further show workers’ massive opposition to the plan, promoted by Macron as central to his vision for making the French economy more competitive.

The strikes in France are part of widespread unrest in Western Europe about the economic situation. In Britain on Wednesday, teachers, junior doctors and public transport staff were among those striking to back their demands for higher wages to match rising prices.

People in the US never strike like this for higher wages and better living conditions....they just take it like slaves.

There was a womens march last week in England, for the women that were expected to retire at 60.. the government felt fit to extend that to 66.

The women have lost 6 years pension with no notice.

There was just a small march at the Houses of Parliament...

A big difference from England to France... I hope the French bring the government down!

Thank you for the attempt. Desert Storm is still creating harm an havoc. The decade of the 60s for protests and then horrible actions for them squelched protests for a long time even now. It's blacked out world wide and many are killed or maimed for stepping up to the front lines. The sense of justice is all wrong an twisted when the only headlines are over racial matters or what is made to look that way.

I was thinking about your dedication to protests this morning when I came back to this.

Seems daytime shift are the elderly workers,
night shift are those young men who wear all black
and burn cars etc.

As the trash cleaners are on strike,
there are huge mountains of trash in the streets,
burning trash may come up more ...

One of the seers said Paris will burn by it's own youth.
Surely the night shift.

Burning trash next to the houses and houses catch fire,
