Quoting: pish Actually I have no real preference about them, and find many people with them (especially sleeves, major body) quite interesting...I love when they have a story or meaning behind them.... So no judgement. My Mom told me once...is there anything you would want on you "forever"? It stuck with me...At one point I actually entertained getting a Mickey's Big Mouth Bee...(what a stupid thing that would have been). I think Women are different... Obviously Tramp stamps, and other tattoos are pretty ghetto... but a butterfly? flowers?...not so much. Anyone with Gang history? I deal with lots of Gang types at work...always wonder how they feel, when older, about all the tattoos they have... I mean laser removal is amazing these days, but curious how you feel about then vs now... and then there are just travesty of justice tattoos...big titted women/mermaids, just stupid shit... how does that even happen?!? Curious to hear what people have to say about their tats... My favorite was a woman I met with a full sleeve of Alice and Wonderland...and amazing, beautiful artwork. Tell the tale of your tattoo.. My mother said the same thing and it stuck with me, too. Far older in life I did some scarification but it all has meaning. Have few letters, FID meaning fuck it dude, and I have a cross. All of mine are hidden on my thighs where nobody can see them. Today, tattoos are all about identity. I’d date to say many of them get tattoos purely for the attention that comes along with it and the cool feeling of then identifying with some bullshit. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 45911136 United States 03/23/2023 08:21 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I got a teeny tiny one at 56. Single mom of 4 and we each got a little barn swallow flying towards our hearts to remind us that we will always come back together even though they are flying out on their own adventures. It was my daughter's idea. I probably will not ever get another one but it was important to my children who all have other tattoos. We have always loved when the swallows return in the spring and did a big study unit on them when they were grade schoolers |

If you are ever horribly disfigured in an accident your body will be much easier to ID. And cops love them for the same reason since most perps have several. Of course, that's not what you meant by "identity", and you're correct again even in that context: those who get tats are psychologically lacking in one to the extent they get inked up to call more attention to themselves and simultaneously feel like a part of a greater whole. We sharpen them to hell for the type of work we do and sometimes you'll have one in your pocket, tip up, and then you stick your hand in there to grab something and get skewered. Leaves a permanent mark, like a pinprick dot or graphite forever... essentially a tattoo. I have one of the graphite spots, got stabbed in school. |

I've seen a small discreet one on an ankle or such, which isn't too bad, but tatoo's all over the arms, chest, backs, or face is ugly and distracting. Maybe that's the whole point? To distract? Because the person sporting them is trying to hide something? Themselves? Idk. I don't have any, nor does my spouse. No piercings either on us. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 85500181 Greece 03/24/2023 02:11 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Don't have, and never had any tattoos. Quoting: Blonde Goddess 82833391 My husband doesn't have any either. I have never liked tattoos. They look bad on both men and women. They're like graffiti on a building, but even worse. Graffiti on a building is easier to remove than tattoos. Tattoos not only look bad, but they are extremely costly to remove, and can be almost impossible to remove completely. Even if completely removed they usually leave behind nasty scars. Then there's the health risks they pose, such as ink poisoning, cancer, and hepatitis. Here's a good thread about the health risks and dangers of tattoos. Thread: Toxic Tattoo Ink - The Truth You Haven't Heard we called them tramp stamps when I was growing up At one time tramps and criminals were the only ones that had tattoos. That's the one somewhat intelligent thing that's ever come out of your mouth. They say even a broken clock is right twice a day. She might be hot but she sure is dumb. But this is one time she is right. |

Posted this thread as just a thought, not thinking it would take off. Not gonna lie...probably because my Mom hated them... I find them really sexy TBH. My Mom would hate me if I ever brought a tatted woman to meet her... and like I said...me personally...I see no reason or rhyme to ever get one...but I dont care if other people do. I like people that have stories about them... I meet a lot of people in healthcare, and get to "manhandle" their arms to start IV's... and I always comment or start a conversation about their tattoos. Amazing how many are "scars" of sorts, of things that have happened to them... Always remember these words: Work hard, study well, and eat and sleep plenty! That is the Turtle Hermit way! We must master the art of peace in addition to the art of war! |
Hiram's Apprentice User ID: 80575894 United States 03/24/2023 03:10 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Anyone who is a christian muslim or j is not allowed tattoos according to their own scriptures Quoting: Pakistani Coward UK 84696199 so most of the western world is satanist The only thing any of their scripture mentions about tattoos is them warning people not to mark their bodies in reverence for death. Supposedly it was in reference to a cult at the time who worshipped death. It was common place for people in the area to get tattoos on their faces. Tattooing is older than Egypt. You beat me to it. I have four, only one is ever visible unless I'm shirtless. All have personal meaning and I regret not one even though they all could all use some touch-up work due to their age. The visible is a ring on my left index finger, a pattern I drew up in my late teens, got inked with before I was 20. Unfortunately it didn't take well and now it's all but gone. On both of my biceps right where they meet my shoulders, I have Masonic symbols, the S&C superimposed over a compass rose on one arm and the blazing star of Masonry/five points of fellowship on the other. I have a dragon mural across my back, also of my own design, was years in the making, rhe symbolism in it is a story of my growth from a troubled youth to the the man I became. My ink is faded and I'll most likely get it touched up at some point, I do not regret any of my tats as they all are significant to my life's journey. I will probably get a few more discreet tats as reminders of my experiences for when down the road the past becomes blurry... they'll be memory aides. "Tempus Fugit" |

Not everyone gets their tats to show off to others, my tats are personal and are never seen in public aside from a small ring that's faded to the point it's practically unnoticeable. . They're a reminder to myself of where I've come from, my convictions, and my struggles. "Tempus Fugit" |
