Have your dogs been REALLY ITCHY lately?
so for the past few months both my dogs have gotten real itchy. nothing has changed in their lifestyle, but suddenly they both become itchy around the same time. i took them to the vet and his tests confirm it's not fleas, mites, or anything external. he wants to run an allergy tests for $300, but that's too expensive right now. he suggested i change their dog food, but i've always fed them the same pedigree food. I'm wondering if it might be something new in the food like this chinese melamine shit they keep talking about in the news.

any GLP'ers recently had an itchy pet on your hands? what was the cause?

Re: Have your dogs been REALLY ITCHY lately?
nope. have had my doggy for about 10 years. he's in excellent health - just had a check-up. about 6 years ago i stopped feeding him commercial canned dog good. he gets deli cut meat, cheese, potatoes, peas, and such. No sugar. Fresh filtered water.

I'm convinced commercial dog food is baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad.

yes, mine has had the same thing happen about 6 weeks ago-and he gets the best food. I can find nothing on him-nothing-not even red or rashy skin-but he is so itchy. I'm giving him extra fish oil-not helping a lot yet-but is helping some. A bath helps for about a week. The groomer said to change his food-that they could suddenly develop an allergy to it.

Re: Have your dogs been REALLY ITCHY lately?
yep! Our dog is so itchy these past few weeks she's been living in one of those cones (Elizabethan collars)...poor girl! As soon as you take it off - as long as she's not distracted by eating or going for a walk - she's licking her paws, biting her legs, biting her tail, scratching, etc...even with the cone on she can tuck her tail into it to chew it into a bloody mess...it's horrible! She's always been a itchy, scratchy dog during the warm months but I've never seen her this bad...she even gets a bath every week with an excellant "stop-scratching" shampoo...I'm taking her to the homeopathic vet tomorrow to see if he can come up with a remedy to help her.

My last dog had very sensitive skin. I switched to Nutro Naturals Lamb and Rice. Excellent stuff. My current dog eats it and his coat is so shiny it looks like a mirror.

Re: Have your dogs been REALLY ITCHY lately?
There are some foods that don't have wheat or corn, which is often what makes them itch. I've had to experiment with our dog. some of the grocery store kinds the #1 ingredient is corn! I found one at Petsmart- Nutro Venison and I buy a canned venison/rice food because she eats better with a little canned mixed in.

Winter fur coming in. Temps haven't gone down yet. That's all. Have you ever shaved somewhere that when it grew back in it itched ? Same with dogs.

Re: Have your dogs been REALLY ITCHY lately?
I found that apple cider vinegar works great on hot spots. I spray it with a bottle. However, if the skin is raw it can burn so dilute it with some water. My dog got a shot of antibiotics and was on some oral too. This helped in conjunction with the vinegar.

Nope, but I have.
How fortunate for governments that the people they administer don't think.
