Gonna be a very close. October 2nd is the day. Probably gonna be a Yes by 52-55%. The Yes side have spent about 20 million Euro on this campaign. The No only have about a million spent, they are working on scraps because the mainstream media are owned by the Yes side.

2009 Irish Referendum: Reject the Lisbon Treaty; No taxation without representation!






There might just have been an argument to support the Lisbon Treaty (LT) in the 2008 Irish referendum, although I do not see it myself, but it is impossible to make a valid case to vote in favor of the LT in the forthcoming October 2009 referendum, as this second referendum in itself is a massive betrayal of the democratic will of the Irish people. At the 2008 referendum, which took place a year ago last June, the Irish people rejected the Lisbon Treaty. The main reason for the no vote was the EU’s lack of democratic accountability, not the idea of the Union itself, as the Irish majority are far from hostile to the EU.



It was the democratic deficit that made a majority vote no or abstain from voting, the deciding factor was that not a single senior EU figure, whether Commissioner or bureaucrat, is placed into office by the democratic vote of the tax payers who pay their over inflated salaries. If this treaty is ratified, this lack of democratic accountability will be set in stone, as Lisbon provides for an unelected President of the European Council, with a term of two and half years and an EU Foreign Minister who will go by the bureaucratically Ruritainian title of the High Representative for Foreign Affairs.



(Almost unbelievably, the UK political elite, their supporters in the EU member States and their media gofers, have already pencilled in the war criminal Tony Blair to fill the post of EU President.)



By insisting the Irish government call a second referendum a year after their electorate rejected the Lisbon Treaty, tells one all one needs to know about the sheer arrogance and the absolute contempt which Europe's political elite hold not only the Irish people in, but also the people of the 26 other member States, for if the treaty gains a yes vote in Ireland, it will become law throughout the EU.



Imagine for a moment if the Irish electorate in last year’s referendum had voted in favor of the Lisbon Treaty; and a year later a campaign was mounted by those on the loosing side, which gained minority support and a delegation from these folk went over to Brussels and knocked on the EU Commissions door and politely asked,



“We are unhappy about the 2008 Referendum result, can we have round two please, after all you got two bites of the cherry when the Nice Treaty went down, it is only fair we get the same? On your bike an EU commissioner would yell, steam coming out of his ears. Security! He would cry, show these undemocratic trouble makers off the premises, we do not need the likes of them about the place, they are as bad as the Taliban in their refusal to accept the will of the people as demonstrated in a democratic ballot.”



For me this is the core of why the Irish people, without hesitation should vote no come October, for to call a referendum just one year on, is the equivalent of the EU’s political elite pouring excreta all over the Irish peoples democratic decision to reject the Lisbon Treaty in June 2008. The demand for another referendum has not come from within Ireland, nor from the people of the 26 other EU States. No, the demand for a second referendum on the Lisbon Treaty has come from within the Brussels bureaucracy and the political Chancellories of the 27 member States.



I am not anti EU, far from it, but until the democratic and social building blocks are in place throughout the EU infrastructure, only a fool, a charlatan, or a politician on the make, would attempt to further centralize and empower the European Union’s elite; and this should certainly not happen without first asking in a democratic ballot, the entire electorate of the 27 member States.



No taxation without representation must be our watch words. If the EU political elite believe there is a need to increase the Union’s powers, or place an unelected EU president and foreign minister in Office, lets have none of this sneaking legislation through the back door without EU wide democratic accountability. As I have already aforementioned, the people of every EU nation must be given the chance to vote in an EU wide referendum on whether they wish to move in this undemocratic direction.



With this second totally unnecessary referendum, the cart before the horse springs to mind; if the EU elites continue to steam roll through legislation which will change the very nature of the European Union, without taking its citizens with them, the whole project will eventually stall and crash ignobly.

Ireland’s national newspapers are continuing to give greater coverage to supporters of the Lisbon Treaty, according to the latest assessment by TNS.

The company says 46% of Lisbon-related articles in the past week have been in favour of the treaty, down slightly from the 48% figure for the previous week.

The percentage of articles favouring the ‘no’ campaign fell from 24% to 23%.

The other 31% of articles in the past week were assessed as neutral.

TNS says Declan Ganley’s return to the Libertas campaign dominated 68 articles, but didn’t do much to detract from the dominance of the ‘yes’ campaign.

The analysis looked at all the main national daily and Sunday newspapers.

The outcome of the Irish referendum on the Lisbon treaty, 2 October, remains uncertain. In the Sunday Business Post, veteran journalist Vincent Browne calls for a No vote, not on points traditionally associated with those hostile to the controversial treaty, but on the centralisation of powers, particularly those of foreign policy, that would follow with ratification.

The deceivers are out again. “Ireland needs Europe”, “Yes to Jobs, Yes to Europe,” pro-Lisbon posters declare. Taoiseach Brian Cowen says the other EU member states would inaugurate a ‘‘two-speed Europe’’ if we voted No again. ‘‘It’s in Ireland’s interests to be at the core of Europe”.

He and others rage about disinformation in last year’s No campaign side about conscription, abortion and tax. Those messages may have been bogus, but so are those from the Yes side. What has the treaty to do with whether Ireland needs Europe or not? The false implication is that, if we vote No again, we will be rejecting not just the treaty, but the EU. What has “Yes to Jobs, Yes to Europe” to do with Lisbon? Again, it is a sham message suggesting that, if we vote No, we will be voting against jobs and Europe.

Letter from 11 organizations will be handed over to Irish ambassador in Denmark

11 Danish organizations will make a common event due to the Irish referendum on the Lisbon Treaty the 2nd of October. The event will take place in front of the Irish embassy, Østbanegade 21 in Copenhagen today Thursday the 24th of September from 15.30-16.30.

The Danish entertainer Niels Hausgaard, former professor of law and MEP Ole Krarup and Finn Sørensen from Trade Unions against the European Union are among the speakers while Arne Würgler will sing songs for the participants and activists which are holding a banner demanding respect for the Irish no and a wish for treaty referendums in other EU countries.

An open letter to the Irish population will be handed over to the Irish ambassador around 16.00. The 11 organizations state for instance:

“We object to the idea that people can be threatened into changing a democratic decision if it is not in accordance with the wishes of the political leaders. And we hope that you will make your decision in respect of the first referendum. You are voting for all the citizens in the EU countries who want, but are denied, a referendum about the renamed EU Constitution. Ireland is standing as the democratic lighthouse of Europe.”



If Conservatives win, UK voters get referendum on Lisbon

London/Prague - British Conservative Party leader David Cameron has sent a letter to Czech President Vaclav Klaus assuring him that the Conservatives would call a referendum on the Lisbon treaty after their expected election victory if Klaus delayed its signing on behalf of Prague, Daily Mail writes today.

The British daily published the information about the letter on its website today, referring to sources from the Conservative Party.

The Conservatives´ spokesman confirmed the information, saying the letter “was sent some weeks ago.”

“We have urged no course of action on President Klaus. David Cameron set out our position on the Lisbon Treaty very clearly and firmly, as he has always done. As the treaty is not yet ratified in all member States it is right that European leaders should know what a Conservative government would do in the current situation,” the spokesman told CTK.

Klaus, now attending the U.N. General Assembly session in New York, told Czech Television that he received Cameron´s letter as a purely private, three-page handwritten letter that confirms the British Conservatives´ position.

Klaus said he does not think the letter has influenced his decisions concerning the Lisbon treaty´s ratification.

The Conservatives´ spokesman, nevertheless, insisted that as the Conservatives “have consistently said, if the treaty is not in force at the time of the next general election and a Conservative government is elected we would suspend Britain’s ratification of the treaty and hold a referendum urging its rejection. If it were rejected that would be the end of the treaty.”

The Conservatives are a hot favourite of the next British elections that must be held by early June 2010 at the latest.

Scandal of 2 Euro workers covered up

THE scandal of Turkish workers being paid only two euro an hour for working on the Ennis Bypass has been covered up by the 26 County Administration in advance of the second vote on the Lisbon Treaty, a spokesman for Republican Sinn Fein said today.

Paddy Kenneally from Crusheen said that the findings of a court hearing into the scandal had never been made public.

The fact is the Turkish workers were only being paid two euro an hour and if this type of conduct is tolerated it spells a disastrous future for Irish construction workers, he said.

The company behind these appalling rates of pay was based in both Turkey and Germany and it flouted every rule and regulation of Irish construction employment.

The fact is there are hundreds of thousands of Turkish workers willing to work for low wages in the EU and this aspect of the current Lisbon Treaty is being hushed up and pushed under the carpet.

The question that must be asked is why the outcome of the case taken against the Turkish company by SIPTU was never made public by the courts?

Workers in Ireland deserve decent rates of pay and this Lisbon Treaty will adversely affect the rights of all workers by lowering standards and rates of pay. In order to protect Irish workers this Treaty must be rejected.

Sinn Féin has criticised Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny for declining to rule out the possibility of a third vote on the Lisbon Treaty if next week’s referendum is defeated and in the event of him becoming taoiseach.

Addressing the Oireachtas European Affairs Committee, Mr Kenny said today he did not contemplate defeat of the referendum and was confident that the electorate would vote to adopt the treaty.

He told the joint committee that the “referendum afforded Irish people an opportunity to reaffirm our support for the European process and to send a clear and positive signal to the people of Europe that this country is committed to playing a central role in shaping the future direction of Europe”.

But Sinn Féin senator Pearse Doherty described Mr Kenny’s refusal to rule out a third referendum on Lisbon as an “affront to democracy”.

Mr Doherty said: “We now have the ludicrous prospect that if Fine Gael were to be returned to government there could be a third referendum on Lisbon.

Excellent. Ganley pwned O Leary in that one. O Leary (Boss of Ryanair one of the biggest airlines in the world), who called the EU 'Stalinist' last year, now wants them to rubber stamp a massive airline takeover of Aer Lingus,so suddenly he is all for the Treaty. Here are steps you can take to monitor the voting:

1. Go to your local polling station at 10pm tonight and,

Note the box numbers

Photograph them when they are sealed

Ask what the final vote count is.

2. Go to your local counting center tomorrow (Friday) morning and:

Record the boxes being opened

Monitor the counting

Report any unusual actitvity

Tickets are required for some of the counting centers, in particular the RDS, however in many of the centers they will let you in without one.

Please do your part to make sure there are no inconsistencies.


Methinks they got the dates wrong on this...maybe they reusing it from last vote but all should be aware that tptb may try to rig the vote.

Oh & i'm no big fan of the pope either lol
