Yes it is true that when you meet your Twin Flame you KNOW this. I in fact didn't know the term "Twin Flame" until after meeting her, and then after doing a little web research, was lead to the bottom of the following page that explained to a "T" everything that we both felt for each other...

Meeting your TF is unlike meeting anyone else. In fact no one else even comes close. I've meet and had two loving relaltionships with two other soul mates in my lifetime, but meeting my TF blows away meeting the soul mates. The TF reunion was electrifying magnetically intense mutual attraction and love beyond your wildest imagination. Better than any romance movie or novel. The attraction ignites ALL your chakras at FULL BLAST on ALL LEVELS: mental, physical, spiritual, etc.. The only conflict we've experienced is that the timing has never been right yet for us to join in a lasting way. This apparently is common in many TF reunions.
A few years ago, I had a relationship with a woman, which lasted for less than 6 months, but had a huge impact on my life. Considering it's duration, it had more effect on me & my life than the last 5 years of my previous relationship.
It was a roller coaster ride, but when it was good, it was amazing!
Being able to convey how much we loved one another without the use of words or even body language, was one of the more mindblowing aspect for me, and her too I think.
I would look into her eyes and ask "Can you feel how much I love you?" and as soon as I'd asked, she'd say "Oh, yeah.."
Maybe she was more than a soul mate, and our 'timing was out' as you've said can happen - that was a big thing for her- timing. She once said "You're not ready for me!".
I said "Maybe you're not ready for me!"
I left it at that from then on, and let her think whatever she wanted to.. she was manic depressive, so was inclined to change her mind about things quite a lot.
Nobody has ever had so much affect on me and influenced my life as much as she did.
