I think a spiritual earth may exist alongside our earth and perhaps the spiritual reflections of real manifestations here still have real implications.

Could a lightning strike set it off?

been asking that for several days, maybe no one knows, but if it is flammable I would think this would be possible.

yes if it's concentrated enough..... If they don't cap it soon ----- we will probably see great balls of fire.

I have been thinking of the oil wells that were deliberately lit after the first Gulf war - this could be almost just what the terrorists are looking for. How hard would it be, considering the massive area covered, for some terrorists to start it burning? Especially after it makes full landfall! It would be almost impossible to put out. damned

I believe that the tribulation has started, probably last summer.

It could become A lake of fire, but not THE lake of fire. THAT lake is a supernatural (though real) lake that burns forever, containing the Antichrist, False Prophet, Devil, and all the bodies of the damned.

Further, the lake of fire burns with brimstone (sulfur) not oil

It is found in Revelation--"And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone." Rev 19:20

The lake of fire figures into our destiny after the Tribulation, so since the Trib has not started the Lake of fire does not appear yet. "And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire" Rev 20:15

I have no other basis to the theory but if it were to ignite, it would become a lake of fire.

Re: Could the gulf of mexico become the lake of fire?
Its interesting that more and more stories are now referring to it as a volcano of oil

NEW ORLEANS, May 9, 2010 -- It's official -- the oil is coming ashore. Not in great black waves. In smaller globs and of course the well-known rainbow sheen seen in mud puddles and now in a patch big as Texas out in the Gulf of Mexico below New Orleans, near the Mouth of the Mississippi River.

The question is, will this unprecedented disaster develop into something as big as Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, in 2005? Those gigantic hurricanes washed away coastal small towns from Alabama to Texas. They flooded 80 per cent of New Orleans, and caused the more-or-less total evacuation of a great American city, something not seen since Sherman burned Atlanta. The economic wreck was huge.

Will that -- or worse -- now happen because of this volcano of oil gushing up from the ocean's floor over one mile below the surface?

No one here knows, of course. But everyone worries.

At first I thought this thread was bogus, but what if there really was the big one the 9.0 the downtown LA epicenter, mm12 earthquake everyone fears, this month and they still haven't stopped the oil spill and cannot marshall the resources with the west coast a wasteland.
The the gulf could be a lake of fire, couldn't it.

i'm pretty sure it's going to happen. and it was no accident. population decimation. it was vial 2, and prob. will be vial 7 because it is right in line with the new madrid faultline. and then those who get to leave this place, leave. looks like the rest of vial 7 is the terrible realization for those stranded here, in the lake of fire.
i've been tracking this for over 8 1/2 years, i don't know details so much but this thing sure looks like what i just said, and it is time now. also they have rigged the volcanos in iceland to blow in synch with the gulf megabomb. ufo's were seen lurking around one of them, we saw it here one night on the webcam.

since the Tribulation judgments are chronological, which judgment in your opinion are we on now?

Re: Could the gulf of mexico become the lake of fire?
lake of fire is certainly a spiritual place, no one knows where it is, but its an eternal place...to think long after the saviour returns tosses the beast and false prophet into the lake of fire, then reigns on earth ...satan gets thrown in the can for 1000 years, then let loose then he gets tossed into the lake aswell...then somewhere inbetween theres judgement day where the book of life is opened and again some make it some dont, then a new heaven (im probably wrong but i believe heaven defines the 3 heavens, the sky, space and then some other place -- everything above earth) and a new earth - so everthing we know as heaven/space and the earth vanishes/dies/ends.....and still.......after all that......the lake of fire is still roasting away 4 ever.

did i read the news correctly a while ago when someone somewhere said the catholic church had removed the lake of fire from their bible or something?

I hope everyone knows that this is a "Corporate Disaster."

No single one of us or even a group of us could have done this.

Practically every environmental disaster is a corporate one, yet we are somehow hypnotized into believing that personal irresponsibility has been the cause of Earth's destruction. Change on a personal level isn't going to stop "pollution".

Re: Could the gulf of mexico become the lake of fire?
The Lake of Fire is NOT, nor will it be, the Gulf of Mexico. What is referred to as the Lake of Fire is the Dead Sea. Sodom and Gomorrah were located beneath it. Edom is located to the south/southeast. There is historical evidence of the Dead Sea being referred to as a lake as well as fires emanating from it. Do your own searches for Dead Sea Lake of Fire to learn more. Scripturally speaking, it makes sense that the Lake of Fire is near Jerusalem not New Orleans.

9 And the streams of Edom shall be turned into pitch, and the dust thereof into brimstone, and the land thereof shall become burning pitch. 10 It shall not be quenched night nor day; the smoke thereof shall go up for ever; from generation to generation it shall lie waste; none shall pass through it for ever and ever.
Isaiah 34:9-10 (ASV)

We can also debate the spiritual Lake of Fire, if anyone wishes.

According this report

NPR reports. That figure is at least 10 times the U.S. Coast Guard's original estimate of the flow, and "the equivalent of one Exxon Valdez tanker every four days."

And nobody really knows where it is, or where it's headed.

Seriously if that much oil leaks like that for months into the Gulf it could be dense enough to ignite and the fire would be enormous and toxic clouds of smoke would go on the wind currents across the US and poison everything the waters plants animals peoples, is this possible?

Re: Could the gulf of mexico become the lake of fire?
Its going to be ignited alright and its never going to be put out either.

England is as far north as Moscow yet is much warmer all because of the warm Gulf Stream. The Magnetic Pole is shifting and the ice is building on the pacific North and melting on the Atlantic North. As the ice in the Atlantic falls into the Atlantic Ocean it cools the surface water down....it makes the Salt water sink and the fresh colder water from the ice rise to the surface. Eventually the Gulf Stream slows down and England goes into a ice age.

The solution is to ignite the oil in the Gulf and get it hot enough to force the Gulf Stream through the fresh water to save england

So why would the U.S. sacrifice the Gulf to save England? because the Queen owns the U.S. and we obey her commonds.
