The dorsal and anal fins are fused with the caudal or tail fin, to form a single ribbon running along much of the length of the animal.[1] Most eels prefer to dwell in shallow waters or hide at the bottom layer of the ocean, sometimes in holes. These holes are called eel pits. Only members of the Anguillidae family regularly inhabit fresh water; they too return to the sea to breed. Some eels dwell in water as deep as 4,000 metres (13,000 ft). Others are active swimmers. Eels begin life as flat and transparent larvae, called leptocephali. Eel larvae drift in the surface waters of the sea feeding on small particles called marine snow. Eel larvae then metamorphose into glass eels and then become elvers before finally seeking out the adult habitat.[2] |

As the oil is escaping its going to leave a void. Normally an oil company would fill this void using salt water or whatever means neccesary. This is not occuring. Whats going to happen when this void succumbs to the absoultely massive pressure of 1 mile of sea water above it? Anyone care to elaborate on this issue that im obviously not qualified in? Okay I asked this same question and this is what I was told....do NOT shoot the messenger. There is very high pressure under there now, but as the oil gushes out, the pressure begins to be released UNDER the surface and the oil will "spread" out as more pressure is released and voids are left...he said it would be a very long time before the sea bed would collapse if ever... Live and let live.......really |
