Its a highly visible way to symbolize that our country is in trouble. I learned this is grade school. Didn't you? (When we were allowed to say the Pledge of Allegiance)

A woman in Florida flew her American flag upside down for Memorial Day as a statement that our country is in distress.
A "nation in distress" describes us perfectly. Would it be disrepectful to those who have fought and died for our country if we all flew our flags upside down as a sign of passive demonstration? I think this simple act would send quite a message.

July 4th is coming up? Maybe everyone flies her upside down to send the Govt. a message that we've had enough???

We had a navy long before you, kiddo. This proud Swedish navy vessel was built in 1628:

Of course it never saw battle, because it sank on its maiden voyage, but hey, I never claimed our navy didn't suck!

It sunk because when they ran their flag up, upside down, no one noticed they were in distress and needed help.

Nope, it sunk because the King wanted his new flag ship to look even more impressive than it was. Against the recommendation of all advisors, he ordered:

1. Less ballast, to make it float higher in the water and look bigger.

2. All sails set, even though the wind was too high, because more sails look cooler.

3. All cannon ports open, so you can see this ship means business, and cannons are awesome.

Point 1 and 2 conspired to make the ship lean heavily to the side, and point 3 finished it off by allowing the water in.

There was nothing wrong with the ship, just the King's hubris.

Anyway, I only brought up this ship because all too many Americans are too uneducated to realize the USA was formed by settling Europeans: everything in your culture existed here in Europe first.

You don't have to thank us for your culture, or even like us. Just stop making a fool of yourselves by saying stupid shit like we never had a navy, mkay?

You often see the Union Jack flown upside down due to the fact people don't seem to know the correct way up...

Re: Flying the flag upside down is a symbol of a nation in distress. - It's simple, It's effective.
I flew my flag upside down after 9/11 and the second invasion of Iraq. Not only did the U.S. government and Israel manage to purposedly murder nearly 3,000 Americans on 9/11 - they managed to kill over 1,000,000 Iraqis (including, of course, women and innocent children) plus the 5,000+ American (and coalition) soldiers who thought they had a cause.

Now these elite bastards are killing untold numbers in Afghanistan, Libya, and God knows where else.

Well, that upside down flag waving didn't go over too good in my neighborhood, seeing how 90% of my neighbors are active or retired Navy.

Big deal. I will be flying the flag upside down again from here on out. So sue me.

Two choices here. Speak up or do nothing and lose everything.

"There should be laws about how you can fly the flag."

Quoting the old woman in the clip. Why is it that whenever someone doesn't like something they always want a law to have things the way they want it. Whatever happened to live and let live. Does the woman not realize that by saying that she wants the government to take away exactly what those soldiers she is so offended for were fighting for. Well, what they were sometimes fighting for anyway, not in recent history.
