Oil and gas are leaking from the seabed surrounding the BP Macondo well in the Gulf of Mexico, Senator Bill Nelson of Florida told Andrea Mitchell today on MSNBC. Nelson, one of the most informed and diligent Congressmen on the BP gulf oil spill issue, has received reports of leaks in the well, located in the Mississippi Canyon sector. This is potentially huge and devastating news.

If Nelson is correct in that assertion, and he is smart enough to not make such assertions lightly, so I think they must be taken at face value, it means the well casing and well bore are compromised and the gig is up on containment pending a completely effective attempt to seal the well from the bottom via successful “relief wells”. In fact, I have confirmed with Senator Nelson’s office that they are fully aware of the breaking news and significance of what the Senator said to Andrea Mitchell.

Furthermore, contrary to the happy talk propounded by BP, the Obama Administration and the press, the likely success of the “relief well” effort on the first try in August is nowhere near a certainty; and certainly nowhere near the certainty it is being painted as.

I may have been uncomfortably close to the mark. And the quote from Sir Richard Mottram was dead on the money; if Senator Nelson is correct about the breach of fundamental well integrity, the game is close to over for the Gulf of Mexico. We shall see where this goes from Nelson’s initial comment. But make no mistake, Nelson is a careful guy not prone to overt hyperbole, and he clearly understood the ramifications of what he was saying.

It also means, of course, that BP and the Obama Administrations continue to give the American public short shrift in the truth and honesty departments. How surprising.

Vedic sastra (scripture) describes a situation that took place millenia ago on the earth planet, where one of the major demons began removing huge quantities of gold from the earth. These underground pressures fit that scenario. Then again... Sickscent's commentaries on the effects of magnetosphere anomalies fit, too...

Let's face it...this shit can't be stopped/plugged/capped.

I think that's actually more clear open water....sunlight penetrates about 250 feet max...and after about 150 deep it severly cut down...if it wasn't on or very near the surface...we wouldn't be seeing it on any sat image.

the Deepwater Horizon rig was drilling into what BP itself
considered a very small deposit of oil5000 feet down.
You could stop and wonder why they went to the expense
and trouble of doing that for little or no return
on an estimated 100 million barrels.

THUNDER HORSE is the main oil deposit it's BP's BIGGIE.

Now if TH was leaking BP might need some
diversion to attract people's attention away from
it while they worked to attempt to fix the problem.

My guess is BP may have blown Macondo for that purpose.
And they would have known in advance that it was
impossible to pipe the oil up from 5000 feet down....

so they may have 'rigged' it to blow


Most of the oil spill out there in the Gulf is likely
from Thunder Horse not Macondo.

THANKYOU, THIS IS CORRECT AND EVEN BP said there were problems of this sort in the gulf. This is not all BP, it is earth changes, but BP should have never gone that deep into that pressure.

The well is drilled in sediment. Directly out from the mouth of the mighty Mississippi. How many of the thousands of feet drilled through is basically loose muck?

SHR!! It's NOT a cloud shadow. That satellite picture was taken close to high noon, when the shadows are near directly underneath the shadows that cast them. There is no cloud anywhere near the black patch 7-10 miles west of the Horizon rig.

maybe its due to a quake, or the draining of oil has cause some sort of collapse, either way could it have been a cause in the stability of the DeepWater Horizon wellhead regarding the the Halliburton concrete not being strong enough, also if this is the case couldn't BP, Transco & Halliburton clam that the spill is due to natural causes ?

Right again? He is talking about a leak 5 or 6 miles away -- not one that results in effluent through the surface near the well head.

Since Matt Simmons has come out with his information, there has been nothing to confirm it exists. In fact, on the surface his claims to not make a lot of sense as he said there was a lake of oil forming on the bottom of the sea bet 5 or 6 miles from the well head.

He went on to say that the size of the lake was enormous -- covering hundreds of square miles. If this were the case, why are we not seeing a lake of oil covering up the BOP as it is only miles away.

I am not saying Simmons is wrong. I certainly hope he is. However he has not provided any solid information and no one with that information has come forward to back him up.

This crap about 'show me the beef..' Many of us have been doing that for weeks. The massive explosion three weeks ago yesterday that left the crater where the Riser terminated was well documented here. Dozens of posts from people who witnessed plumbes and gas vents fom the sea floors that were shown on the BP Cams. The video's at the link above and the dozens of posts on that thread from people who witness that crater and others.

The evidence is really impossible to deny -- the only question at this point is what the end result will be.

Simmons has inside information regarding NOAA submarine excursions that the NOAA did weeks ago. However, they haven't made any of the video public...

I am sure that Senator Nelson has inside information regarding NOAA and other submarine excursions. Why is the government making such a big deal about providing live feeds of the BOP/riser leaks, saying the information needs to be public, but they aren't releasing ANYTHING regarding these underwater plumes that have been filmed by submarine excursions?
