Anonymous Coward User ID: 1113369 United States 09/28/2010 05:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have watched marinetraffic at fairly regular times and have not found any research type activity over the area of the plume-reef which, as AM states, is generally the area where the most of the undersea pipe highway extends. Quoting: American MentatThe interest seems to be over and between the domes. The Gyre has circled easterly of the dome today. I am saying that I have seen slow movement of these ships over the area to the south of the Discoverer Enterprise and the west of the wellhead. I think we are talking past each other about specific areas, we are seeing the same thing! :) AM, can you, or any other reader, look at the terrain on marinetraffic and describe the location of the 22-mile plume reef relative to the major domes? I have not been able to understand why there is so little apparent interest in the plume and its texture and contents. Do they think they have it figured out? Or, due to limited resources and a higher priority, time is spent over and between the domes? Someone posted a while back on some GOM thread that he had info that there are 38 active hydrocarbon "vents" that do not have any kind of piping or production casing on them at all. I speculate that this plume is actually *fresh oil* from these vents, which are in turn on the domes. I also suspect that some kind of incomplete industrial remediation has been done to try to limit the damage of these vents, or hide them, such as a permanent underwater collection or disperasant system or both. I would expect that they are taking close inspections of this equipment as well as trying to gage what the geological conditions are on the sea-floor, since apparently, there has been significant destabilization, maybe even enough to disrupt the installed equipment. Once the oil is in the water, BP doesn't really care about it, so the focus is on the fresh hydrocarbon sources. The frakking due to high-speed drilling, which has been admitted, would widen existing vents and open news ones. The underwater plume river appears to be traveling, yet almost no surface attention has been given to what has to be a huge amount of hydrocarbons. BP may not care about the oil once it is in the water, but what is keeping the plume underwater, other than Corexit? |

I will remind everyone that the significance of the ships in the north of the Gulf are the ports they use. Louisiana was once the highest-county port traffic, being #7 world-wide. Houston was #8. Now there is almost no commercial ship traffic in and out of LA. There is a reason for restriction port traffic and we have not been told. We do not that Louisiana in on "catastrophic" alert for a bio-hazard, but do not know what. The most serious problem for the public is that US g'ment agencies continue to publicize that the beaches and the water are safe for the public. On the CNN video of the Gulf Commission, one person asked about the reports of the hazard in the Gulf, hemmed and hawed and said that he didn't have the exact reports in front of him, but that generally there is not a potential hazard to humans. |
