I clicked the cameras from a dozen different positions as the plane circled above.
“She stands out plain today,” I herd Charlie comment, thinking he was talking about the mine. “Just about see her ribs.”
I turned to see him pointing offshore and followed the indication given. There in the mud was as strange outline. Small pips of mud seemed to project above the surroundings to form a shape more like a banana than a ship. It was only about one sixth as wide as it was long but the contour was quite plain.
“I certainly don’t think that would be a ship,” I commented, “it would be too narrow to be an ocean going vessel. It’s more like the shape of a canoe.”
Later with two rolls of film completely used, I directed the pilot to return to Derby.
Driving Charlie home I was non-committal.
The galena mine was certainly interesting. The object offshore I couldn’t be certain about. The best hope was from that tablet of bronze and the inscription.
“The best place for this to go, is America,” I said to Charlie, when later I delivered the carefully wrapped parcel to the post office. “It will be the quickest way to receive an accurate reply.”
“Could be interestin’, ay?”
“Sure mate, but I’ll keep in touch, but in the meantime, I’ve got work to do. Goodbye.”

Thanks Mud. Some heavy reading in there. Used in conjunction with Woodsters jet stream flow, helps make more of an understanding of it all eh.

Could not help but think back to weather channel's warnings of oil rain etc, as hurricane's blow oil spray inland and on to trees and wires.

Mysterious ‘Vortex’ Warned Is Creating Global Weather Catastrophe

After remaining ‘relatively stable’ since its discovery in November, 2000, this report continues, the Gulf of Aden vortex began to “expand” in late 2008 prompting the United States to issue an “extraordinary” warning to the entire world about this mysterious occurrence and which in response the following Nations rushed their Naval Forces to this area:

Interesting couple of posts Hans, I tend to agree with the idea it could be sudden, it appears from what little we have got handed down from days past that this was how it transpired. The actual magnetic pole shift may not cause any great disasters in its own right but it could trigger a movement of the outer crust and to say that would be catastrophic would be an understatement!

We have evidence that this has happened in the past strewn all around the northern polar regions. The frozen mammoths, the hills of bones mixed with vegetation and debris all give stark testimony to the extent and power of the event that transpired.

I still laugh when I see a TV show espousing the theme that mammoths lived in frozen snow bound regions, just because that's where they are finding them. Doh think about it, they are elephants, they eat trees and huge quantities of green foliage daily!

Where are they going to find it in a snow bound land? Also have you ever stopped to think what sort of temperature drop is required to snap freeze a Mammoth? Which is how they are reported to have been discovered, still with grass and flowers in their mouths. (Somehow they existed in this snowbound land to) Obviously they did not want people working out what happened there.

If the crust should move I can just imagine what would happen to any ocean that got in the way as being a fluid....

Mud my man, You get it loud and clear. Think about it a several tonne animal, still chewing on tropical plants, gets flash frozen and found centuries later. Tell me again how this happened over thousands of years.

Exactly, I think the people are treated like idiots by the authorities most of the time and because there are so many distractions placed in front of most people (work, bills, etc.) they get away with it! It is a lot better now than it was when i was a boy, you could get locked up for saying anything like that then.

Edit to add I tried to work it out once years ago and if I recall came up with -88c

Edit to add: Just done some net searching as did not have that then, wow I was out by quite a lot. Seems -115c is the go.

Powerful earthquake shakes Papua New Guinea

JAKARTA, Indonesia – A powerful earthquake struck waters off Papua New Guinea on Thursday, but there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.7-magnitude quake struck 21 miles (32 kilometers) beneath the ocean floor.

It shook the coastal towns of Kandrian and Kimbe on the island province of New Britain, according to Papua New Guinea's Geophysical Observatory, which noted that both are 40 miles (65 kilometers) or less from the epicenter.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries, however.

Papua New Guinea lies on the "Ring of Fire" — an arc of earthquake and volcanic zones that stretches around the Pacific Rim and where about 90 percent of the world's quakes occur.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a destructive tsunami from the 1:12 p.m. quake given its magnitude.
