i remember thinking that because a long time ago black = (symbolized) invisible and white = (symbolized) visible

the yin/yang symbol was clever because it showed how our non material and material dimensions together form and sustain all things and the small circles of opposite color in each section reflected this

i often wondered, as all masonic temples are black and white squared floors, how their ceremonies reflect the origin of the colors, visible invisible
i assume the members acting the role of the non material entities stay on the black squares and the ones acting material being/things stay on the white squares
