The Shrike in Hyperion was imagined as the Shrike bird that Shrike named his handle off of.

The Hyperion Shrike would impale humans on a massive tree of made of frictionless metal thorns and blades. The bird does this as well.

The region of the Tombs is also the home of the Shrike, a menacing half-mechanical, half-organic creature that features prominently in the series.[15] It appears in all four Hyperion Cantos books and is an enigma in the initial two; its purpose is not revealed until the second book, but even then left malleable. The Shrike appears to act both autonomously and as a servant of some unknown force or entity. In the first two Hyperion books, it exists solely in the area around the Time Tombs on the planet Hyperion. Its portrayal is changed significantly in the latter two books, Endymion and The Rise of Endymion. In these novels, the Shrike appears effectively unfettered and protects the heroine Aenea against assassins of the opposing TechnoCore.

Surrounded in mystery, the object of fear, hatred, and even worship by members of the Church of the Final Atonement (the Shrike Cult), the Shrike's origins are described as uncertain. It is portrayed as composed of razorwire, thorns, blades, and cutting edges, having fingers like scalpels and long, curved toe blades. It has the ability to control the flow of time, and may thus appear to travel infinitely fast. The Shrike may kill victims in a flash or it may transport them to an eternity of impalement upon an enormous artificial 'tree of thorns' in Hyperion's distant future. The tree of thorns is described as unimaginably large, alive with the agonized writhing of countless human victims of all ages and races.

Shrike Behavior

Shrikes are known for their habit of catching insects and small vertebrates and impaling their bodies on thorns. This helps them to tear the flesh into smaller, more conveniently-sized fragments, and serves as a cache so that the shrike can return to the uneaten portions at a later time.[2] This same behavior of impaling insects serves as an adaptation to eating the toxic lubber grasshopper (Romalea guttata). The bird waits for 1–2 days for the toxins within the grasshopper to degrade, and then can eat it.[3]

another movie I watched was 'Phenomenon'
in the movie and yah just a movie... he could feel waves..made him dizzy and felt sick then later an earthquake happened.. all tho no one around him felt this he did..
also in the movie when he was trying to find the boy who was sick he felt his pain and located him he felt his sickness..

on the topic of a person without accessories other than themselves, their and our environments motives would require to match and commonly agree to override what our environments motive is already enacting

There are people who feel those precursors...whether or not they've explored it and connected it to that is a whole other thing...but specifically do you think people can intentionally CAUSE earth quakes?

When I think of Haiti and all the millions raised. Makes me sick. All the food and supplies that was sent there. Sitting on the tarmac for hours if not days waiting for approval. Why the hell would you need approval for disaster supplies......Okay now I'm upset :(
