Ever watch the old gangster movies with James Cagny, or saw old pictures of a police desk at a precenct ? They are raised about 3 feet above the floor - it performs 2 functions:

1. It's intimidating

2. It's harder to climb up - these desks were heavy wood and some actually had steel plate bolted to the inside.

Remember, they dealt with gangs and the mob day to day and the mob wasn't scared to hit a police station during the day.

foo, cops explicitly use hollow points so the bullets dont go through their victims and hit innocent people. the hollowpoints splay out and that slows their momentum.

Actually, I think every PD in the country issues hollow points these days. It is safer because it is less likely to overpenetrate and hit an innocent behind the target. I know my local Sheriffs carry Winchester Ranger T hollow points.

You obviously aren't a LE officer and don't know any personally. Yes they can and do use hollow points. HP rounds stop inside the perpetrator and do not go through them or through walls striking civilians and or neighbors.
