Hmm. Wasn't it just as cold last winter when Dallas area got hit by a foot of snow and we had several nights of low teens all the way to greater Houston? Nothing happened. I wonder what really went on this time.

Mexico says they will send electric to Texas, then they changed their mind and withdrew the offer! LoL

I'm a Txn and I'm still trying to wrap my head around how & WHY would you use electricity to cook a steak. With flavorful mesquite trees growing like weeds, pit BBQ etc they never use electricity.

I haven't read this whole thread but have a friend in el Paso and it's not just electricity, her gas has been off too for periods and from talking on the phone with them, she actually thinks thru the stories that they don't have ENOUGH gas. In Texas yet. the temps have been to to zero there.

I must be one lucky dude.

I've had gas and electricity since this mess hit. I must be on the same power grid as Texas Stadium lol.

Yup, not to mention:

millions homeless, incl. lots of vets
cuts to all services, i.e., schools, colleges, nursing homes
inability to protect our own borders
huge gap between rich/poor, i.e. dwindling middle class
huge prison population due to no mental health services

The rolling blackouts in Texas are causing a state emergency in New Mexico (literally, declared by the Governor).

New Mexico has run out of natural gas and the increased draw on available electricity is causing loss of electric power in some areas.

Complicating matters significantly is the fact that the weather in New Mexico riht now is extremely cold. The temperature was considerably below zero in many places last evening. Tonight the temperature across New Mexico is forecasted to be in single digits.

Many, many people in New Mexico are scrambling right now trying to figure out how to keep their families warm enough over night.

Yes, I agree that we should be more prepared. It just isnt that we are whining about the power going out... I think it is more that we are trying to figure out why our state breaks down with just a little bit of snow. It is pitiful! Many of us feel like the power is being manipulated (like Enron) to make money or things like that..... or maybe that the people that run the power companies are incompetent!

But, yes, you are right..... we need to depend on ourselves. More and more I am realizing that we are on our own and anyone in power is just trying to keep from getting fired (can't let go of those benefits!)
