In return... I would post tits, but idk if that's acceptable or not, but I can post the paper here when it's finished if y'all would like to read it. Quoting: the makers mark has been madeFor something topical: How about the ethics of the Japanese gov's coverage of the Fukushima melt-downs? Seems fairly obvious they can't possibly know if the reactor vessels are intact yet are repeating over and over that they are. You might try to spin this either way - defend the gov't position or argue against it. Just a suggestion |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1001027 United States 03/13/2011 11:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Work and it's Obsolescence, what should we do? A study of the last 200 years of human inovation in the quest to do less work and it's consequences on "civil"ization and thoughts on where the next 100 years will take us. Short summary: Humans generally dislike work and would rather play, spend time with family etc. so they have invented all sorts of means to do more work with less labor. Sounds good right? Think again. Without work there is less or no money. Less or no money means no survival in todays "civil"ization so there becomes the need to invent work. Hell, it's not even hidden, it's in plain sight "Job Creation" Imagine if you will, just for a minute that the current tax system went away and was replaced with either a value added tax or more simply, if the government needs something done, well, PRINT IT, in 1913 they did not give up the right to do this, they just choose not to. There, taxes solved. No tax evaders, no more refunds, nothing, it's a whole new system. What would we do with the people at the IRS? Tax lawyers? Tax Preparers? Tax accountants? How about the loggers who cut down the trees to make the tax information and forms availiable? The people at the paper mills that make the paper? The people at the printing factories? The people who deliver all of this? The people who build the buildings and eqipment these people use to work in / with? Kick em out on the street 'cause they're lazy bums now? Cure for cancer? God I hope not. Look at all the jobs cancer TREATMENT provides. Get rid of MSG? What toll would that take on the fitness industry? Get rid of flouride, arsenic, chlorine in the water supply? What would those who produce and deliver these poisons do for a living? Without work people see others and often times themselves as worthless, not deserving of even the basics for survival. As we progress through the age of automation and less work where does that leave those who are no longer needed to work? Future thought: Eventually human labor will become totally unnecessary, what then? Kill everybody and let the robots take over? It's a simple case that has plagued human kind since we got "smart", technology has outpaced humanities "Humanity" and is doing so at an exponential rate now. So much so that the people whom most people on this forum would consider evil, are in reality (For the current way civilization is set up) the GOOD guys. They create jobs aplenty, mostly having us harm each other doing so, but what would we do without these jobs? |

Now look at the reality of what we have been dealing with all of these years. The white man being superior has created the most awesome society in the history of the universe. Lets pat our selves on the back for not being stunningly full of shit. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 1291784 United States 03/14/2011 12:38 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Scenario: Small town newly hired cop still on probation period, with new baby and just bought a new home. Needs his job. Late one night he pulls over erratic, drunk driver and finds out it's his head sheriff guy, who is on his way home from a political awards dinner where he was the guest of honor. Sheriff tells new cop he may have had one too many, you know how these events can be...that he won't forget him when probation review time comes around, so just let him go since he lives about 1/4 mile up the road. What options could he take and why? i.e, arrest for drunk driving because sheriff not above the law, but will have consequences for himself because of political ties and he is still on probation and probably sheriff, let him go but he may wrap himself around tree or run into someone else, follow him home and say nothing, drive him home and return early to get sheriff to retrieve car and say nothing, etc. There is no wrong answer, just options with explanation of the ethical position behind each one. |
