Then it goes to a processing plant with reverse osmosis and fancy pants filters. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1300506Then to your tap. It's not rainwater! The Hetch Hetchy watershed, an area located in Yosemite National Park, provides approximately 85% of San Francisco's total water needs. Spring snowmelt runs down the Tuolumne River and fills Hetch Hetchy, the largest reservoir in the SFPUC system. This surface water in the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir is treated, but not filtered because it is of such high quality [link to sfwater.org] |

We all know its becoming radioactive and flowing into the air and sea. You CANNOT encase almost 400 tons of molten radio-active material in reactors in concrete in its present state. The massive heat build up inside the concrete containment shell would produce a cataclismic explosion (see chernobyl youtube-corium leaching into water theory-they said Europe would have become a wasteland from the neuclear explosion). Bombing the reactors is even worse, if thats possible (radio-active fallout driven miles high into the atmosphere to be driven by jet-stream winds). I hate to say it, but I have been giving my wife and kids big hugs lately - (I have not told them of my fears), because I truely believe, that as this plays out over the next months (yes, this catastrophe will take months, if not years to play out), this is going to change their hopes and dreams forever. At this level, you would need to drink 632 liters of this rain water to obtain the same radiation effects you obtain on a round-trip flight between San Francisco and Washington D.C. Therefore, the increase in radiation levels in the rain water due to the events in Japan remain extremely small. Was just talking to a co worker about those nuke test who's Grandfather has a 10,000 acre ranch in the area. A lot of those people living in southern Utah who were down wind died of cancer. Unless you can point to scientific DATA to prove otherwise, that PUR is superior, then this is just opinion and has no merit. The bottom line is that an activated charcoal/carbon filter or reverse osmosis will help considerably. But there are issues with RO as well as it creates super acidic water.... but if it's a toss up, I would take acidic over radiated. |

Longevity is associated with the regular consumption of hard water (high in minerals). Disease and early death is more likely to be seen with the long term drinking of distilled water. "Cause of death" Flu. etc I live right across the Bay from Berkeley, and 30 miles south of SF, and I have a handheld geiger counter that's not showing anything. Go to the UC Berkeley web site and you'll see they think it's no big deal. [link to www.nuc.berkeley.edu] They claim you'd have to drink 632 liters of water at 4 bequerel per liter, to get as much radiation as you get in one cross-country airplane flight. At 20 bequerel per liter then (the peak observed 3/25/2011) you'd have to drink about 126 liters of that water to get airplane dose. Now that is one stupid-ass way to present the numbers, but that's what the elites at Berkeley have chosen to do, and if you believe them then this is indeed a small amount of radiation. Now we have someone else coming out and saying it's 18000% above the safe level? Don't know about you folks but I'm tire of being the yoyo of all these competing interests. Where is someone in authority who can tell us the truth? Governor Brown perhaps? President Obama maybe? Are they too busy digging their shelters to pay attention or what? I'm getting angry! |
