4/19/2013 — 7.2M Earthquake — Volcanic unrest at Kuril Islands, Russia (NW Pacific)

The Kuril Islands (and west pacific) have been heating up the past 2 weeks…. the area in Russia which had the “earthquake” is a known active erupting volcano. The earthquake itself in the magma chamber below the crust — approximate depth of the earthquake was 75miles.

The location at the Kuril Islands showing movement is specifically an undersea volcano. Part of a complex of over a dozen active volcanoes.. several undersea.. a few above sea level.

A team with Environment Canada will be heading to the Shelburne area Friday after severe weather caused heavy damage in the region Thursday.
Reports from the area, located approximately 100 kilometres northwest of Toronto, list storm-related damages including a destroyed barn and downed power lines along Highway 10.
The highway is currently closed as crews work to remove debris.
Environment Canada meteorologist Mitch Meredith said that the weather agency’s team will be trying to confirm if a tornado did in fact touch down in the region, as was suggested in preliminary reports from the scene.

Flooding shuts locks on Mississippi, Illinois Rivers By REUTERS04/19/2013 19:33Barge shipping was halted on Friday on the Illinois River and the Mississippi River from central Iowa to northern Missouri as flooding forced the closure of several locks until at least the middle of next week, the US Army Corps of Engineers said Friday.

Eight Mississippi River locks, from Lock 15 at Rock Island, Illinois, to Lock 22 at Saverton, Missouri, and four Illinois River locks were closed. One of the Illinois River locks at Marseilles, Illinois, was shuttered after nine barges broke loose from a tow late on Thursday and struck the dam there.

Hailstorms have battered parts of central China's Hunan Province since Thursday, leaving three people dead, local authorities said Friday.

According to Hunan's Provincial Department of Civil Affairs, the hailstorms have affected 105,000 residents and forced the evacuation of more than 9,400 people.

Nearly 200 houses collapsed and 11,000 houses were damaged to varying degrees. The storms have also destroyed about 3,900 hectares of crops.

Hailstones were as large as 1.8 cm in diameter in the city of Jishou. Wind speeds hit 22.6 meters per second at Hengshan Mountain, a renowned scenic area.

Weather forecasts said heavy rain and hail will continue to hit parts of Hunan next week.

A mysterious and potentially grisly find by two young boys in a wooded area has police and residents of Quincy, Mass., baffled.

According to the Patriot Ledger newspaper, "On March 29, Sgt. Steven Leanues picked up what appears to be a decomposed foot that the boys found in the woods off Pantheon Road. Police Chief Frank Alvilhiera sent it to the medical examiner, who determined it is not human, although it appears to have five toes."

Tests are still being conducted, but the strange find has locals asking: What has five toes and looks like a foot - but isn't? Maybe Bigfoot, but more likely a bear. Strange as it may seem, this is not the first time that animal bones have been mistaken for human remains.

In 2004 a man in Fort Gay, W.V., discovered a human hand at about 9 o'clock in the evening while cleaning his vehicle at a car wash. It was inside a manila envelope and had a rubber band around the five finger bones. Police officers and two different county medical examiners concluded it was human and probably from a child or small woman's hand.

Governor declares state of emergency in response to flooding

Governor Jay Nixon has declared a state of emergency in response to heavy rain and flash flooding in much of the state.
The State Emergency Operations Center has been monitoring this weeks storms since its activation last week, when severe weather and tornadoes hit Missouri. The Governor’s action today activates the Missouri National Guard, whose soldiers are being sent to Clarksville, where sandbagging has already begun, and other communities along the Mississippi River to assist in the flood fight. It also activates the Missouri State Operations Plan to allow state agencies to work direclty with local jurisdictions to offer emergency services.
The National Weather Service says many portions of northeast Missouri received between 3.5 and 5 inches of rain this week. Many streams and rivers are above flood stage or rising. In response to the rising Mississippi, Hannibal is installing its flood gates. The same move is being considered in Cape Girardeau.
