TrixieMama User ID: 1311280 United States 05/14/2011 11:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I eat A LOT of hummus and nuts. I found individual packed raw nuts at Trader Joe's and keep them with me in my purse all the time. I also keep a can of peanuts in my car. So far the biggest struggle for me has been when i'm out with my kids and they want fast food. I find my cravings come back when i'm exposed in that manner but thankfully i've been able to stick to it with a lot of prayers and by making really wise choices. I find that gourmet vegan/raw is a little much for me right now. Simple is better in my opinion in the beginning. Trader Joe's sells a lot of great tasting vegan products. If you like Hummus it's a great source of protein and has some olive oil in it so you get some fats too. If you need something simple and quick they sell brown rice that is precooked and frozen, you just pop it in the microwave and in a couple minutes it's done. Nuts are a great snack as are dehydrated fruits/raisons. Drink a lot of water. I also cut soda completely out pretty well cold turkey. I did get massive headaches though so when a headache would come on I would allow myself 1/2 soda and titrate down to now, a week later, I have a single sip. If you have a VitaMix you can put frozen fruit in it and make a wonderfully satisfying smoothie. You can also add some Agave to sweeten it if you need it sweeter. I also found my craving for chips satisfied by making homemade kale chips with cashews and a little nutritional yeast. I think it gets easier with time and when you are passionate about why you are doing it. Also a key for success is to clear out your cupboards and eliminate the junk food or the things that will cause you to fail. I found craving sweets to be hard for me the first couple days too so I got some spice drops/jelly beans that met my criteria aka vegan. Sometimes a sweet red orange will satisfy me as well :) Give it time and don't beat yourself up when you cave, it's a natural part of it. Some people have an easy time and for others it takes an elimination type diet over a few weeks to get to the point where they are no longer craving bad foods. Good luck and keep at it Last Edited by TrixieMama on 05/14/2011 11:41 AM "I can do ALL things through Christ who strengthens me" Phillipians 4:13 "I shall call upon the name of the Lord who is worthy to be praised; so shall I be saved from mine enemies" Psalm 18:2-4 "In God is my salvation and my glory; the rock of my strength, and my refuge, is in God." Why would you ever give up goat cheese? I cut out all shitty polyunsaturated fats and use only extra virgin coconut butter. Also, take your B-12 and omega-3s, because your diet is deficient in those. That is the best advice I can give to a vegan. |

That makes a bit more sense, than vegan diet to be honest I don't know why anyone would cut out a nice piece of steak now and again out of their diet, I think people should eat everything but in moderation and you dont have to eat meat every day but sometimes a piece of meat will do no harm to you as you ll get harm for stressing out for not eating meat |

You need to remove the chemicals, etc. from the foods and the cravings will go away. Be sure to get all your vitamins and minerals too or you will have cravings, but at lease they would be 'good' cravings :) Free your mind and the rest will follow. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God...Romans 12:2 BE the change you wish to see in the world. |

I always crave bad food and give in to the temptation. so, how long does it take before you stop thinking about these junkfoods?? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1367714be sure to take suppliments especially of B12... otherwise and chemical imbalance will also make you crave foods that will feed you what you need. Nuts and hummus alone is a diet to die of. the hardest thing about changing diet is getting VARIETY enough for all the needs of the body. are you getting enough calcium and magnesium??? No Vit. B 12 and it is an ugly disease that comes your way and when it hits hard, it is sooo hard to turn around.. also no calcuim and Mag, and your body will ache and bones will break. Might be a long time before you stop thinking about the foods you left behind. Make some simple snacks to eat, small portions... for when you are craving the other, eat something healthy right then. This helps you to reform the thoughts you have had. Vegan is a great way to live and over time you will feel and look younger healthier and have so much vitiality. I cannot do only vegan, I need my butter and cheese. Other than that I dop fine with it. I look 10 years younger than my peers (meat eaters!!) I have more mental stamina and memory too! Just make sure your diet is well rounded then the craving go away.... for the body will call on what it thinks it need to supply them and old habits as well. nuts are my favorite snack.. so I mix up a bag with about three kinds, add a few rasians and also a few chocolate covered almonds, to add a tny bit of sweet and I will snack on these when I need a boost. The tiny amount of chocolate is enough to make my cravings for other stuff go away fast. Nuts give me instant energy! and are filling. YOu do not need to eat many! |

Fats are needed. People think all fats are bad, this is hardly the truth, you need fats, sugars, proteins along with all of the other nutrients. I do not know what 'bad-food' means to you, however if you are craving something, usually your body is lacking something. People crave sugar because the body needs sugar. Sugars are the energy source for the body. We are designed to convert carbohydrates into sugars (potatoes, rice, wheat) which is released into the blood stream slowly. Since the advent of the modern era and processed sugars we have gotten an overdose of sugar. If your diet had high amounts of sugar you will need to ween yourself off, or run a risk of blood sugar disorders. If its fats, then most likely your body is screaming for those fats because it has become addicted to it. However, the body does NEED some fats, thus you will need to make certain that your diet supplements fats. Nuts are a good source. Salt is the second biggest junk-food addiction. We need salt, however if we have had a habit of ingesting too much salt all the time our body will need to be weened off of it. Again, we do need salt, you will need to supplement. If its meat you are craving, its most likely a protein issue. One of the most difficult things for a vegan to do is to get large sources of complex protein. While the body can absorb some from vegetable matter, we are designed to strip protein more efficiently from animal sources. This goes all the way back to when you were an infant and drinking an animal product (mom's milk). Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1367714Your body is craving high carbs and sugars. You need to cut out all of that for 2 weeks before your body will stop craving.....after that it is much, much easier to get by without, in fact, you won't even want it . No fruits, no breads, no processed foods, no sugars, for 2 weeks. It's not as hard as it sounds...... Love is like light.
