Planet Hopper User ID: 1196590 United States 06/19/2011 09:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Next thing would do is buy my two adult sons, who have mental retardation, a home in our neighborhood. Giving them the most independence possible, but close enough to be there for them. They are not my actual birth children, but I've raised them as mine. Then, I would build a new building for our local Boys Haven. They take in troubled, homeless teens and their buildings are in bad shape. Guess people donate more to baby orphanages and don't really think about teen orphans. I really have no personal need for anything. Well...I think I would buy two more boxer dogs and build them a playground! Love that breed! Ours makes me laugh every day:) that's worth more than money can buy. Why is it that when someone tells you that there’s billions of stars in the universe, you believe them. But if they tell you there’s wet paint somewhere you have to touch it? |

I would then take applications from locals who really need a home, are willing to work to make these homes nice and I would move em all in free. We would rebuild the neighborhood to be a mini self sustaining solar/wind powered area with a community farm area in the middle with a nice pond for kids to fish in. |

Get them out of their country, give them shelter, safety and an education... This project is all written-out but stalled due to lack of funds.. care to participate? |
Buffalowoman User ID: 1301240 United States 06/19/2011 09:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think I would sit down and cry! Not that amount of money would upset me, but would be a true blessing. 5 million dollars is alot of money or even around 5 million. We actually wouldnt need that much. Charity starts at home..Oh my do we need it. Of course take care of us first..then those that have helped us out in the past or are in more financial trouble than we are..Were not selfish. We have three children,(ages 12,10 and 7) my husbands hours have been cut at work..bills are piling up.some we cant afford to pay..some have been cut off because of it. I know what you are thinking..why dont you just get a job and help out..for one babysitters add up..two my health isnt the greatest..I have MS..and stress seems to make things worse. I truely believe we would pay all the bills up to date and then some..Go on a well deserved vacation with our children, since we havent been on one for 7 years. Moving to where we are now to help out my husbands family has backfired on us. We helped them, but they cant seem to help us when we really need it..gotta love family! Buy my children new clothes and shoes..Actually say yes to what they want to buy.instead of we cant afford that right now..and actually smile from ear to ear for once without having a worried look on my face. PS. My husbands says.. sit on it for a week and watch it and think on what he would do with it..first of all PAY taxes on it..redue the family house which the family is trying to sell under us(greedy ppl)..update the house from original windows in 1962 ect to modern. Trust funds for our children..Practical living. This is nice to sit back and day dream..and then its back to reality. Last Edited by Buffalowoman on 06/20/2011 10:24 AM |

Maybe you could accomplish this without the "starter funds" if you combined resources from enough people. Anyone here live in Maine??? |

I would probably still get up, drink a cup of coffee and go to work. :) The only thing I would do, right off, is find a patent attorney and proceed with manufacturing something I came up with. And seek counsel on how to do it. I am an ol' widder woman...lol...and do not have the first clue. And I would probably ask...are you from Nigeria and is this going to cost me money to get...lol |

Tactical Edge User ID: 1382344 United States 06/19/2011 09:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | $5 million....... I would do a lot with that. First off, I would pay off my parents' and in-laws' homes so that they can attempt to enjoy what's left of their lives without being saddled with debt. Second, I would buy some land. My wife and I had an idea a while back to open a pioneer village. there used to be a theme park in Nashville called Opryland that was closed to build a mall years ago. There has been nothing for anyone to do ever since then. I would like to build a small theme park based on the original pioneer concepts of self sufficiency and sustainability. Think Frontier Land at Disney World come to life without the insane admission prices. I think $15 for adults and $7 for children is enough to charge for admission. The food we serve to the guests would be produced on site in working gardens and local small family farms. The souvenirs we sell will be made on site by old world craftsmen. I would like to build cabins the way the pioneers did so people can see how it was and can still be done. Each time we finish one, we give it away in a drawing or use it as another part of the attraction. I think it would be very successful and educational. In this time, people really need to learn these skills and if I can present them in a fun manner, I think they might be more apt to try it. I would encourage the piss poor public schools to bring field trips out and teach the kids something useful. I could literally get all of these things done for less than $5 million. Land is still relatively cheap in this part of the country and there just happens to be a bunch of gently used theme park rides available between Opryland and the Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom which have both closed. Anyway, that is our dream. But, in reality, we are flat broke.....Not that it is so terrible. I work private security jobs to pay the few bills we have and we get by. I would love to be able to get my kids a toy every now and then but we are all healthy and that is what counts. I'm savvy enough to retire on $100,000. With $5 million, I could put a smile on everyone's face that I ever come into contact with again. I like this thread. It is fun to dream. [email protected] |

Purchase a storage building on a small farm away from town - set it up with to be self sustaining with heat, cool, water, etc. Use it as a combination storage facility and living quarters. Stock up on tons of food and water for use when SHTF. Once all hell breaks loose setup a means to feed children 12 years or younger during the hard times, parents and teens need to provide for themselves, unless they are truly incapabale. So bascially prepare to save lives with food and water with the upcoming depression = as many as possible using a 5 year time span for the depression to begin to resolve itself. |

I would plant vegetables and fruits, all kinds of flowers, trees etc. I would share my gains with all! If anything was left I would build a shelter for those who have lost their land or homes. I would try to give people some 'peace and comfort' in these trying times! |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1433496 United States 06/19/2011 09:46 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Actually, I have been thinking about this for a long time! Firstly I would take care of the surgery I need done (see yesterday's pinned thread), then with my health back to normal I would set about getting some land in the Appalachian Mountains and convert an old coal mine into an area big enough to hold my family and some of my church members. I would at the same time start converting a portion of the cash into silver and gold, as we all know that our cash system is fast failing. I would invest a portion into solar power, but the main lighting would be from fiber optics (look up fiber optic lighting in mountains - pretty cool!) That way you can grow food indoors even if the outdoors isn't hospitable. If you are interested in my idea, please let me know and I can continue on the details. |
