Any miracle foods that can help with recovery from a stroke?
Family member had a stroke almost 2 years agoe with very limited recovery. Left side of body paralysed. Limited movement in leg though. Caused by blockage in carotid artery. Anybody know anything that can help, even if only a little. Thanks.

Re: Any miracle foods that can help with recovery from a stroke?
My husband had a Brian hemorrhage in the deepest part of his brain five years ago and should be brain damaged. He was paralyzed down his left side and couldn't walk or talk. He is now back to normal even though doctors said he would never walk or talk again and would be in a wheel chair for the rest of his life.
We didn't accept this and made him fight all the way which helped him heal. Nothing is impossible if you are determined enough and never give up. The brain is capable of so much more than you know and can reroute its pathways.

As for food add tarragon to their food as this strengthens brain cells and helps repair them as well as lemon balm tea which helps heal and cleanse the blood.

Hope this helps, don't give up or accept anything.

I recommend grape seed extract and also Lecithin, ginko biloba, Omega 3 fish oils (get one that is made for better absorption), B complex vitamins are important, too. All of these are good for brain, for the vascular system, and I think the grape seed is especially beneficial, take 1mg per lb of body weight first 2 weeks, as tolerated, then 100mg per day maintenance dose after that. Taken with antioxidants gives it better success. Just get a good overall multivitamin specific to the person's gender. I have read that calcium is also very important for congnitive function, calcium citrate is best.

We also used massage however when you are doing this you need to communicate with the cells within the persons body. Just imagine (inside your mind) that you are talking and communicating to the damaged cells in the paralyzed side and communicating what you want to achieve. Give them the task of repairing that which is damaged and imagine you are giving them the extra energy to achieve this.
Your body knows how to heal itself but sometime forgets or doesn't have the extra energy it needs to achieve this.

Just like having a flat battery on your car, you use another battery from a working car to jump start and provide the energy it needs and is lacking to get it running again. Same principle applies.

Re: Any miracle foods that can help with recovery from a stroke?
OP - my husband had a stroke last fall. Left side was paralyzed, although he HAS rehabbed well, considering. There is a supplement called Resveratrol that was recommended to us - it's a heavy duty antioxidant.

A neurologist in Pittsburgh even wrote a book about it called "Longevity" - couple chapters on how it benefits stroke.

Anyway, my husband notices a HUGE difference when he takes it vs. if he forgets or runs out - more muscle control, more stamina. Also, GNC makes these "wellness packs" for men and women...he takes the men's and this also aids in overall stamina.

One thing I've learned is that the rehab NEVER stops with this...movement and use MUST be encouraged, or else the brain starts to turn a "blind eye" to the affected side. Center of balance has now changed to the center of the non-affected side...balance is a BIG consideration, since it's been shifted.

Found a physical therapist in India who starts her patients on the floor in kneeling positions to begin rehab...this way brain not seeing it as threatening (as in falling). Of course, she's a little too far away :) but we learned a TON about how the brain and body work in this...if the brain is sensing "NOT Safe!!!" it will literally tell the slack side to go weak to take the body down which is where you see the spasticity and curling of arm/leg.

OH - and this REALLY blew us away: I had him walk BACKWARDS early on one day to test the brain's Safe/Not Safe mechanism and he walked PERFECTLY...eyes could not "interpret" what was in front of him. Used a bar for him to hold onto, of course. Rehab place thought I was nuts, till they witnessed this phenomena themselves.

Stay away from British cuisine. That greasy shit will give one a stroke, heart attack and make your teeth fall out.

YEA! Found the link for you!

[link to www.brainstrokes.com]

Take a look through this site and read everything you can -it's definitely "unorthodox" in the Western sense...but if I hadn't seen this woman's theory in action with my own eyes when we "played" with it, I wouldn't be a believer :)

There a few videos to see how she does this...even with patients 10+ years out from stroke. You could do your own little exercises with your family member to get the brain talking to the limbs in a "positive" way without the threat of it thinking the body is going to fall over.

Re: Any miracle foods that can help with recovery from a stroke?
I hear that leafy greens vegetables helps. I had a stroke when I was 9 year old. Even though it was not the fault of the EBE visiting me I'm sure they felt guilty because at the time I was under a lot of stress. (just finished pilot school)
Anyway I lost some use of the left side of my face and I had a hard time talking for about a year. Right after it happened I could not talk more than a few words at any one time and even that sounded like a drunk talking. The best think for a stroke is to get away from it all and relax in a calm place. The really important thing is that you get your medical advice from GLP.

YES!! Stress is a HUGE factor...you are absolutely correct and THANK YOU for bringing it up! This has to do with the brain injury part - in fact, many people who have had concussions or brain surgery find that stressful situations can bring on a slight relapse or diminishment.

I have watched my husband's arm and leg curl in an instant when one of our teenagers starts screeching about something...again, I think it's the brain's very primitive way of warning the body "Not Safe!!" - lol

didn't see your post! I just started taking this stuff several days ago as a cleanse to rid any build up of plaque in the arteries such as in the heart and brain. The one thing I've really noticed since starting serrapeptase is that my feet are very warm now, like my circulation has improved a great deal. I also have a little more energy. I've noticed i have to go pee quite a bit to like I'm cleansing out poisons or something. Well, for those interested.....

Technically supplements..but: 1g beta-alanine and 5g msm (methylsulfonylmethane).. Twice a day. I can give you an literature review for this in few weeks - it does work and you do not need verapamil or isosorbide anymore for ischemia prevention... Garlic is also good, but I'd medicate myself with these instead as I treat my grandma...

For the blockage intraveneous chelation works wonders.
If the person has another stroke get them to Dr. Steenbock in Ca. He uses the person's own stem cells and reports miraculous results. Problem is you need to get to him within 2 weeks of a stroke. Hyperbaric oxygen also works well.

HERE is "THE HOLY GRAIL" of herbs when it comes to healing strokes

LIFEFLOWER: [link to herbal-powers.com]

Testimonials

"I have just commenced LifeFlower capsules with my 87 year old mother. She has been suffering memory loss and confusion for 14 months. This is probably the result of some minor strokes. Thank god she has shown an improvement over the past four days. It was even noticeable after two capsules!" - Liam O'Mahony, Ireland

Mr. Ruan, 44, from Las Vegas suffered from headache, loss of memory, and dizziness. After taking LifeFlower for a few weeks, memory and reaction time have significantly improved.

Mr. Chan, 38, has suffered from stroke and minor paralysis. He turned to herbal medicine due to stomach ulcers caused by drugs. He has found LifeFlower to be effective in the relief of his symptoms and mobility with no side effects.

Mrs. Liu, 72, had poor response to surroundings as seen with most stroke patients. After taking LifeFlower for 2 months, she is now able to talk much more clearly and has improved memory.

"Summing Up the Knowledge

Our team scoured the area between Kunming and Gejiu, meeting with various experts associated with Lifeflower, Erigeron breviscapus. The cumulative information we gathered, and the depth of inquiry into the plant that we encountered, confirms for me that this plant is something very special. In China, many thousands of stroke patients each year are treated with Lifeflower, either in tablet or injectable form.

According to all the information I have seen or heard so far, treatment of paralysis due to stroke is at least somewhat successful in over 80 percent of cases. Even if positive results were half that, Lifeflower would still be a remarkable medicine.

The science on Lifeflower shows that the plant improves circulation in the brain, and enhances cerebral function.

It is a unique plant that possesses both protective and restorative activity.

Considering the great number of people who need brain enhancement of these kinds, Lifeflower has the potential to become one of the most important and widely used plant-derived medicines of all time."

=========================================

"Though the information I garnered was by no means comprehensive, it suggested that LifeFlower could be one of those few Holy Grail plants, a true life-saving remedy of potential value to the millions of people who suffer strokes each year. (an estimated half million in the US alone). A plant demonstrating significant benefits against this massive killer would truly be a miracle medicine.

Sometime during the 1960's word was spreading throughout China about a plant being used by the traditional Maio people to treat rheumatoid arthritis. That plant turned out to be Erigeron Breviscapus. Subsequent pharmacological investigation of this plant confirmed its uses for cerebrovascular health. In fact, an old traditional medicinal text entitled "Dian Nong Ben Cao" published in the Han language listed the use of Erigeron Breviscapus for treatment of stroke victims. That claim turned out to be exactly correct.

On July 4th, 2002, the US Patent Office granted a patent to Farlong International in California for Breviscapinum and its extraction. According to experts involved with the plant, it is specifically the phytochemical Breviscapinum that aids cerebrovascular health. In the text of the patent

I found the following: "...Breviscapinum ... increases blood flow for significantly decreasing cerebrovascular resistance, raises permiability of blood brain barrier, increases nutritional blood flow of myocardium;

raises immune function of body macrophage cell and counteraction against blood and oxygen depletion induced by hypophyseal pituitrin and thrombocyte agglutination induced by adenosine diphespate inhibiting internal thrombosis and promoting activity of cellulose dissolution;

increases peripheral and coronary blood flow, effective for sequelas induced by cerebrovascular accident;

palsy, coronary heart disease and angina pectoris."

If the information in the patent checked out well, then Erigeron Breviscapus, or LifeFlower, was in fact a very special plant medicine deserving of much greater recognition and use."

There are no miracle foods, but there are general regimens that will help. This general regimen is a good start. There are additional supplements that can be added to it, but depending on your location they may not be available, or may require a prescription.

Re: Any miracle foods that can help with recovery from a stroke?
I have ms and have had 4 strokes. For me milk and milk products tend to make the symptoms act up. It has taken me 2 years to start feeling somewhat normal from the last stroke. The brain can heal, but it takes time and can be slow. Keep the environment as stress free as possible, allow them to sleep as much as needed, and make sure they are taken their aspirin. It keeps the blood thin and can help limit the damage if another stroke happens. Good luck and hope they recover OP.

This man was able to save his son after massive brain trauma so bad that the doctors had already pronounced his living body as dead.

You need a lifestyle of eating, not a "miracle food". The miracle is in food, certainly... but not in a single one. It's in what you eat and how you eat it on a continual basis.
