The very best displays have been seen as far south in the US as the Mexican border--but that's a once every fifty years sort of display. The forecasting system is quite good now, so you don't have to lose sleep hoping for a good display. NOAA's forecast for Northern Hem is [link to www.swpc.noaa.gov]

Damn right! Aurora's going crazy, seen all the way down through the midwest.

Fascinating to see some of this happen...

No, I really do not speak to Gary anymore. He has told me he is way out of the loop now. He thinks all this adds up. Hell, he predicted it... 1dunno1

I think it is exciting. But, to actually think about a massive event that takes out the grid...well, its bigger than life. Like thinking about a cool movie coming out. These storms take out grid sections quite a bit. So, that is not something that is highly unusual. Just have to wait and see if things just continue to ramp up!

No problem. I was trying to find out how often they got this far south.

50 years doesn't seem that long, but if you think it about it in respect to electricity...well, electricity started being implemented into infrastructure in the late 1800's or early 1900's. So, an event that causes an aurora that goes down to Mexico has only occurred once or twice since electricity was developed!

I know this one just reached the southern states, but it is something to think about.

Yes you are right, really these types of events haven't really been recorded in history because our history with electricity, in the time-frame of recording events like this, is relatively new...

I don't make predictions. chuckle

In all honesty, I just don't know. Like I said, an event that takes out the grids would be unprecedented in mankind's history. Its just to big for me to grasp as a reality, but the science proves it out!

But, either way, even outside just the sun getting amped up, and the fluff, and all that, I think we are on the verge of massive change. Exciting times.

You know, I WANT something miraculous to occur. Something that no one ever dreamed of happening, really happen! I've had that happen to myself, as an individual...but I want it to happen to everyone! Where everyone can share the experience. That would be the ultimate in a collective consciousness experience.

Here you go AC

Sorry I haven't been around much. My personal life has taken another turn south and I'm just trying to keep things going. Its been rough.

Anyway, I'll give a couple bullet points.

1. We ARE in the cloud, and have been for at least a couple decades or more. It is the dense plasma columns (that can be light years wide/long that are the concern. Energetic solar wide increases have been witnessed over and over in ALL of the planets and their own systems. Although I don't prescribe fully to Hoagland, his research work called Day After Tomorrow shows the scientific evidence of this.
2. There is no declassified information out there that says the dense aspects of the plasma clouds have penetrated our system. Circumsttantial evidence abounds, as well as scientific papers, most notably by Priscilla Frisch, shows that the denser cloud columns were/are on their way, AND THEY DO CHANGE THE CLIMATOLOGY OF ALL PLANETS, AND ALSO LINK TO EVOLUTIONARY CHANGES IN EARTHS LIFEFORMS. This part is generated from matching geological/bioogical and ice core samples with the timing of the clouds.
3. GLP was 'warned' by Boeing Guy that certain strange things will be seen. One of those were the increase in solar filaments that were extremely rare. That was directly from Wikipedia, but since then, they have rewritten that and took out how rare they are, as now they are quite common.
4. The plasma clouds are usually kept outside of the solar system by the sun's magnetic field (solar winds). When we enter these clouds, the heliosphere shrinks, and as such, all the planets get closer to interstellar space. That allows more cosmic rays into the solar system. But, when we hit denser plasma cloud columns, they can get through the heliosphere. These dense plasma areas are highly conductive, and can be seen by there powerful magnetic fields. That is what IBEX saw...the magnetic ribbon. The last update from NASA via IBEX was that the magnetic ribbon had a large 'knot' associated with it...and that knot is untying. IMO, that would be because of its interaction with the heliopause (boundary). I have a post on this that I'll have to dig up. It was called RIDING THE INTERFACE ZONE...or something.

What happens is when/if the dense plasma columns get through the heliosphere and enter our solar system, it magnifies the conductive medium of space. Maybe like being completely submerged (for hundreds/thousands of years) in a magnetic flux tube like environment. Basically, linking up electrical charges that are emitted from the sun (excited particles) and producing a constant connection ALL OVER THE SOLAR SYSTEM with plasma exchange, with the sun being the generator. This is the part that can be theorized, but holds highly logical arguments. This is also the part where Xenus' work on petroglyphs comes in and has been proven, IMO, that this phenom actually does occur. See the research by the foremost scientist on plasma physics, Dr. Anthony Perrat, of Los Alamos and Jet Propulsion Labs.
 Quoting: SickScent

Our solar system is in a giant magnetic field. If you think of the earth's magnetosphere...well, the sun has one too, and its called the Heliosphere. Basically, it is the solar winds. The solar winds flow out in the form of a magnetic 'skirt'.

:parkerspiral:

At the edge of the Heliosphere, is called the boundary, or the heliopause. This is where the solar winds meet interstellar space and slow down...eventually to stop, leaving us in a 'bubble' of solar wind moving through the vastness of interstellar space.

:astrosph:

The boundary of the heliosphere protects the solar system, just like the magnetosphere protects the earth from energetic 'particles', like solar storms. Well, interstellar space has storms too, in the form of exploding stars, etc.

These explosions form 'clouds' of energy in interstellar space, and sometimes we pass in and out of them. Depending on their size, it can take centuries and even millennium to pass all the way through them. Depending how energetic they are, they can and do affect the solar system and all the planets inside them.

:five:

BUT, normally, the boundary protects us from these and the clouds actually envelope our little 'bubble' of solar wind, and do not really penetrate the 'bubble'.

It would look something like this...

:astrospheres:

If the clouds (plasma - electricity and magnetism) are really strong though, they have the ability to penetrate into the heliosphere and the solar system becomes more 'energetic'. Just like when a solar storm happens...

:solarprom:

...our atmosphere becomes more energetic and we see the aurora borealis.

:greenfire:

:arorbor:

But, imagine that energy that makes the pretty lights of the aurora penetrating the magnetosphere...well, it would cause disruption inside our atmosphere.

:fallingpoles:

Same kind of thing.

So, the question is if the dense areas of this magnetic ribbon...

:spiralknot:

...have actually been able to penetrate our heliopause and enter the heliosphere, thus disrupting the solar system with more energies.

:noblac:

If it has, then we WILL change. These things cause evolution to occur, and extinctions. This has been proven through ice-core samples and timing of the clouds we passed through already, determined by astrophysicists.

That is the million dollar question. NO WHERE HAVE I FOUND INFORMATION THAT SAYS WHERE THE RIBBON IS RIGHT NOW. Can't find the information anywhere...

kind of strange that this strong display was caused by a CME that wasn`t even completely earth-facing. However the CME did seem to be a bit different in terms of how it erupted from the surface (solar tsunami thread).

kind of strange that this strong display was caused by a CME that wasn`t even completely earth-facing. However the CME did seem to be a bit different in terms of how it erupted from the surface (solar tsunami thread).

Remember also, the particles can move with the Parker Spiral. Wonder if that had an effect on this one.

Thread: PARKER SPIRAL Connects a Back Sided Plasma Cloud Erupting from Sun to Earth in a Rare Solar Event
This post comes from another thread, Thread: Rare Space Weather Event ! but the OP never came back on. So, I'm going to post it again, with an explanation of this rare and incredible solar event.

There was a Coronal Mass Ejection ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE SUN THAT HAS MAGNETICALLY CONNECTED WITH THE EARTH.

Below is a warning that was issued due to proton flux increases.

PRESTO ALERT

Fast warning for important solar events with implications for the space environment. Source SIDC (RWC-Belgium)
Frequency ASAP, when needed.

The proton flux measured by GOES13 increased this morning. The storm threshold is not reached. We don't expect the threshold to be passed.
A back sided plasma cloud came into view of STEREO B COR2 at 02:54UT, March 21, 2011. This CME is probably associated with the increased proton levels. The Earth is magnetically connected with the source site behind the Sun. The Parker spiral has bended magnetic field lines that guide the electrically charged protons. The Earth is near such field lines along which these protons travel. This is a rare event.

So, this is what all that means, and I even put a pretty picture in the explanation so it is a little easier to visualize how a CME can erupt on the back-side of the sun, and still effect Earth. IMO, that is absolutely amazing!

They are talking about the Parker Spiral.

The spiral shape is similar to the pattern produced by a spinning lawn sprinkler, for similar reasons: the solar wind travels outward from the Sun at a uniform rate, but an individual jet of solar wind from a particular feature on the Sun's surface rotates with the solar rotation, making a spiral pattern in space. Unlike the jet from a sprinkler, the solar wind is tied to the magnetic field by MHD effects, so that magnetic field lines are tied to the material in the jet and take on an arithmetic spiral shape.

Here's a picture of it...

:parkerspiral:

See how the magnetic field lines actually look like a 'spinning wave' being emitted from the sun. Well, to be technical, the shape is this: Unlike the familiar shape of the field from a bar magnet, the Sun's extended field is twisted into an arithmetic spiral by the magnetohydrodynamic influence of the solar wind.

So, the CME exploded on the other side of the sun, and it gets caught up in the magnetic wave of the Parker Spiral, pulling the CME around the curve of the sun. You can imagine it with the picture above...the CME following the Parker Spiral around. Well, as it is doing it, it comes in contact with Earth's magnetic field, and pulls it in Earth's direction...

Pretty fucking cool!
