The volcano that causes tsunamis is Cumbre Vieja, of Isla de La Palma in the Canary Islands. [link to en.wikipedia.org] |

[link to en.wikipedia.org] That's what I thought as well, but upon further research I found that EL Hierro has a history of causing landslides and megatsunamis. The last major occurrence was ~50,000 years ago. Google "El Golfo" and "mega tsunami". |

This is a little known natural disaster threat that is now becoming all too close for comfort as a volcanic eruption appears imminent on the El Hierro island that triggered a megatsunami ~50,000 years ago. Quoting: Spirit Of Truth 1144016 See - [link to thespiritoftruth.blogspot.com] Do we have any confirmation that the volcano has gone off? If so it's about time. I suggest pin so that everyone can come in to this thread and confirm whether this is occurring and get more info on the eruption. I'm seeing people posting pictures of the eruption... |

I'm not aware of an eruption occurring at this point. One can keep updated via Twitter, but it helps if you speak Spanish: [link to twitter.com] BTW, for those who doubt that El Hierro poses a risk for a landslide and megatsunami, here is an image for the historical record of the Canary Islands: [link to rsta.royalsocietypublishing.org] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1548221 El Hierro can't cause any tsunami. Only Cumbre Vieja can. Cumbre Vieja is another volcano in the Canary islands. And Cumbre Vieja is not "about to blow". So AC ... do you just lurk around all these posts and say bullshit to everything ???? Thread: LIVE "ELF/ULF" MONITORING OF EARTHQUAKE PRECURSOR SIGNALS ON GLP. It doesn't show how far inland the water would go... does anyone know of a simulation that shows this? |

But, many would die as there is no way even half could be evacuated from the major metro areas. |
