The AR would simply increase your combat effectiveness. Quoting: Jake101 30.06 only holds 4 cartridges.. I agree.. To be combact effective.. The AR is the choice for them 2 legged critters. And if within 25 meters, I would be using the .45.. Ok.. I am going to go ahead and start my AR build then.. |

With ammo stocked Quoting: Phat Daddy Glock 21 (.45 acp) 500 FMJ and 50 JHP Glock 26 (9mm) 400 FMJ and 50 JHP (my conceal carry) Hi Point C9 (9mm) bought it because it was cheap!!! Raven 25 (.25 auto) 100 FMJ (Saturday Night Special) Remington 700 (30-06) 100 cartridges (180 grain) main hunting rifle Winchester 94 (30-30) 100 cartridges (170 grain) my lever action cowboy style carbine Winchester 190 (.22) 5000+ rounds It's scoped and is a great small game rifle Mossberg 500 (12 Gauge) 100 shells- various from 00 Buck to home defense Stevens 311 (.410 Gauge) Nice 2 shot break barrel.. Need to stock up on shells.. So I think I want to add a revovler now.. Looking at maybe the .357 Mag (Ruger or SW) Also want to trade up that Saturday Night Special.. Looking at the Barreta 32 Tomcat... Should I go ahead and add an AR? I have been pondering it for a while.. What if Zombies do attack? An AR will give me 300 meters out!!! Everyones thoughts? Dude, It is not a good idea to post everything you have online. Also you know have way to many guns to carry. All you really need is one side arm, (9mm or 40mm) ammo is a lot cheaper for those to then 45mm. A good 22. Rifle can be used for hunting Ammo is cheap, and you can carry 1000 rounds easy and a good AR-15 .223 Great for protecting yourself, and hunting can hit a target at 500 yards without a scope. If you don’t like the AR-15 go with a 12G ammo is still cheap, and you can find it any were and use it for hunting also. With these three weapons you would be carrying one rifle on you at the ready, one broke down in your BOB, and have a side arm on your side or in a drop leg. “Once A Marine Always A Marine” |

USMC0369 User ID: 1495969 Iraq 10/24/2011 07:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | All so with the AR-15 you can put a 300 yard battle site zero on it and not have to worry about changing your sites for any targets from 0-300 yards. You would also be able to keep 30 rounds in a magazine but I would not recommend more the 28 in a magazine at a time, or you will get jams. “Once A Marine Always A Marine” |

Also learn to reload. WTSHTF it will make life easier. And reloading is a skill everyone who is a shooter should have. Last Edited by indiandave on 10/24/2011 07:38 AM |

Last time I checked they were over $11 dollars for a box of 25.... Reloading is the only way to go, especially with those odd calibers. When I first bought a 28 gauge I also bought a MEC at the same time to go along with it. Haven't regreted it. I reload for all my metallic cartridges also. Going on 20 years now. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 946424 United States 10/24/2011 09:23 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In order for a hollow point to open RELIABLY (through clothing, etc) it must be traveling in excess of 1200 FPS. The .45 is going nowhere near that fast at the muzzle (900 or so). I talked to a medical examiner once and asked him what, in his experience, the most effective HANDGUN round for stopping humans was and he said it was the 230 grain .45 ACP FMJ (because it has the most penetration). You can get by with hollow points on the 40 cal, but I wouldn't trust them with the .45. Plus the fmj are cheaper anyway. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1266868 United States 10/24/2011 05:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I would advise similar calibers. Also weight. I can carry more 7.62x39 than 30.06 and can carry a whole lot more .22 mag or .22. I have tried to have carbines for all my pistols so the ammo can be used in both. .22, .22 mag, 9mm, .45, .308, and 30.06. If it truly hits the fan you want what gov agencies use 9mm, .40, 5.56 and .308 or 7.62x52. A 1000 rounds of 12gage 00 wieghs more than anyone can move fast or far with. |
qwerty123 User ID: 1280532 United States 10/24/2011 05:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think you have too many guns and not enough ammo. Would have been better to consolidate a bit more if you can't stock pile 1000 rounds at least per piece. Quoting: Welcoming Abyss ^ this ^ You need at least 3-4K rounds for your battle rifle. AT LEAST Look more toward 5-6K rounds. Consolidate effective/modern calibers and get rid of fluff. Last Edited by qwerty123 on 10/24/2011 05:49 PM |
