Amateur Photographer Here
Some of you may know of me here, and for once instead of giving mine, I would appreciate anyone´s opinion on some of the photos I´ve taken over the past year or so (good, bad or indifferent).

Other than being an opinionated ass (of which I am pretty accomplished)...I´m a very amateur photgrapher that loves nature shots...

Believe it or not, I´m conservative too....go figure. I guess I´m just trying to get in touch with my liberal side...

If any of you has some time to visit, I would love your opinion on the few photos I´ve posted so far - now that I have a blog site...

[link to northwestuspics.blogspot.com]

The ones you will see represent a very small sampling (I have over 500 of the Teton Mt. Range and Yellowstone), but these are pretty good ones.

Thanks...

Thanks...

Actually, I don´t live there, but would strongly suggest anyone with the time and inclination to visit. It is, by far, one of the most beautiful places on earth.

I´ve seen quite a few of them.

Hello Bwolfe.

The first photo, what´s the name of the lake (?) is it glacier melt, are the mountains in the background rock or ice?

I want to go there.

Moutains in the background are rock and ice...they are in the Tetons just south of Yellowstone in Wyoming...

The lake is glacier runnoff, and it is one of the more beautiful places I´ve been to. If you have the opportunity to visit/hike it...don´t pass it up!

BTW...I believe that the photos there (for now) will make pretty decent wallpaper on your PC...I think they are large enough...

Re: Amateur Photographer Here
HHHHHHHMMMMMM, I would say the pics lack a unique appearance. I have seen shots like these many times. Usually from tourists that just want to catch the spectacular image before them.

I am a photographer myself. What I would tell you is to fluctuate times at a location. You would be suprised what mother nature can do to enhance a photo dramatically. Like being at a site when the sun first appears over the horizon.
The first glimpse of light and the last of the day are the most enhancing to a photograph. Try it with some of the pics on your Blog. You will see the difference. You have an eye for nature, but put more of yourself into the shot. Use your imagination to make the objects pop out at the viewer. One of my other favorite tricks are different angles and height. You´ll be suprised by just laying close to the ground and shooting skyward, how a run of the mill picture turns into a work of art.

Good Luck in you Future Endeavors with Photography

I didn´t mean to discourage you by all means. I see you have a start in a great field.

SH2...thanks so much for the input (that´s what I want to hear). I will take it to heart.

I actually took several photos with some (not all) of the things you say in mind. I will try to post some of them as well a little later.

Regards...

Good observations SH2 - I think the images captured are quite nice for an amateur. The technical can be learned and developed.

Keep up your work OP. You have a good eye and an obvious love for photography and your subject matter.

Thanks again all...

Check the site again (maybe tomorrow), and I hope to have a few different shots up that touch on some of the things you speak of.

I tried tonight, but the pics won´t seem to upload properly...something wrong with the site.

Re: Amateur Photographer Here
....your subject matter is of course, stunning...the photos came out very well...i´m not sure what camera you are using, but the only thing that would be of hinderance is the lens....and by that I mean the focal length....for example- A Cold Summer´s Day....18-24mm lens(35-mm equiv)to take in more of the surroundings will help you also in the composition to pull the viewer in...I say this Not as a critique but as a suggestion from someone who loves the art and wants to engage the viewer further....Good Luck!

Re: Amateur Photographer Here
Thanks Not Really...I was using a Minolta 35mm with 35-70 standard lens. Several others, however, are on the 300mm zoom.

Again, I do not know too much on specifics of the technical (hence, very amateur), but I´m learning....

I will tell you though, I have been taking pics for business for years (mainly on digital), and the old-fashioned 35mm still beats the best of them (at least from the ones I´ve used).

Re: Amateur Photographer Here
nothing will ever replace film....it still has 10x the resolution of digital and as hard as they try, they can´t match it....I used to shoot a lot...but now I appreciate more than ever....fav films are Reala 100, Velvia(pushed to 60, very warm...be careful where you use), Provia 100F( has the grain of a 50, very fine, and on the opposite end, Provia 800 pushed to 1600 (did you like Eyes Wide Shut?)...as far as B&W Ilford Pan F 50 & Delta 100...I shot for tones and through all the films I experimented with( all of them, I used to manage a camera store : ), these were the best, so take this as a warp drive to the next level....Experimentation will lead you to which to use in what situation.....and I must note Kodachrome (R.I.P), the best film ever made....
