Fruit Juice is NOT a Healthy Beverage

Why do I say that?

If your fruit juice is actually labeled a "fruit drink," "fruit beverage," or "fruit cocktail," it's because it does not contain 100% juice.

In fact, according to the Discovery graphic, on average fruit drinks contain just 10% fruit juice!

"Some fruit drink packages are covered with images of real fruit, even though these drinks may contain no more than 5 percent real fruit juice. The actual ingredients are water and high-fructose corn syrup, or in some cases "real sugar," such as cane sugar. Examples include: Kool-Aid Jammers, Hawaiian Punch, Capri Sun Orange, and Capri Sun Sunrise (which Capri Sun markets as a breakfast drink)

In a 2009 study, 16 volunteers were fed a controlled diet including high levels of fructose. Ten weeks later, the volunteers had [link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov] also showed signs of food-processing abnormalities linked to diabetes and heart disease. A second group of volunteers who were fed a similar diet, but with glucose replacing fructose, did not have these problems.

Many people are now conscious of the health risks of drinking soda. I suggest you add fruit drinks and fruit juice to this category, as they are really one in the same. These types of sugary drinks are a primary source of excessive fructose. Instead, drink plenty of pure water as your primary beverage of choice.

As for fructose, I recommend you get serious about restricting your consumption of fructose to no more than 25 grams per day, with a maximum of 15 grams a day from fresh fruit (not fruit juice). If you're already overweight, or have diabetes, heart disease or cancer, then you're probably better off cutting that down to 10-15 grams per day, fruit included.

Sugar is very addictive just as much as being addicted to cocaine!!

This isn't even a concern to anyone that actually READS a label or has the slightest bit of sense.

This thread's title should read "Fruit Drinks" to be more accurate and in line with the referenced article; but then it wouldn't sound nearly as ominous and earth-shaking I suppose.

You wonder why kids are starting to gain weight?
Parents think children are getting a healthy drink because it is a fruit drink.
Wrong!!

obesity rates continued to rise. Remember, fruit drinks often contain the same amount (or more) of sugar and fructose as soda.
Fructose at 15 grams a day is harmless (unless you suffer from high uric acid levels). However, at nearly 10 times that amount it becomes a major cause of obesity and nearly all chronic degenerative diseases. And that's how much is in the fruit drinks compare to an apple for example.

It isn't just the fructose and sugar that is the problem!! It's the FLUORIDE in the water that they add to the fruit juice concentrates and soft drinks. Fluoride damages the thyroid and causing it to malfuntion. Most of us are getting an overload of fluoride because it's been added to so many things and not just added to the water. Thyroid damage contributes to obesity, so we are getting a double whammy!

Yes I partly agree but you have to go check the links about fructose read more about it.
That's very true fluoride is dangerous but check out this next article about what is MORE dangerous then fluoride.

Fructose Beats Up Your Liver Just Like Alcohol

Fructose is also a likely culprit behind the millions of U.S. children struggling with non-alcoholic liver disease, which is caused by a build-up of fat within liver cells. Fructose is very hard on your liver, in much the same way as drinking alcohol.

Juicing natural organic fruit is the way to go and gradually wean them off the store bought juices unless they are pure if you want what's best for you and your children.

Get pure water that is preferably reverse
osmosis treated. which is great!

is it? i dont even know if labels tell the truth anymore

for example: stevia ....most things labelled pure stevia are not pure its taken from stevia plant then processed which changes it from natural to unnatural but still labelled natural stevia

some gum has no ingredients on it

i bet there are lots of things with ingredients in it not even listed

the real reason most people on this planet are the most ignorant gullible people that have ever lived is a little thing called the

TELL-LIE-VISION

television

when you watch it, you put the I(you) in television and you get tel(i)evision

tell lie vision

Possible; however,if the product says "Juice Drink", "Juice Cocktail", or any other situation where the word juice is relegated to simply being an adjective to describe what it is supposed to be, then that should be the first clue that it's probably NOT actually the juice of an actual fruit.

Then too, even if it does say "100% Fruit Juice" one still needs to look and see if it's labelled as "From Concentrate" or not. Then look at the ingredients list to see just what kind of juice or juices the actual makeup is, as well as what else it may or may not be.

It shouldn't take longer than a matter of seconds to figure out what you're buying, and if it does then simply put that bottle down and move on to the next.

Of course, that's only for people who actually care to begin with and will spend that few seconds of their time. For the most part, people only care about how something tastes, if it's sweet enough, and what kind of bargain it is per gallon.

Honestly, the people that are or would be surprised by this are the same ones who must be completely flabbergasted to learn that a stick of "Juicy Fruit" chewing gum really isn't.
