On June 12, 2008, the Supreme Court ruled 5 - 4 in Boumediene v. Bush. It affirmed habeas rights for Guantanamo detainees. It let them petition for release from lawlessly imposed custody.

Justice Anthony Kennedy wrote the majority opinion. He said America maintains complete jurisdiction over Guantanamo regardless of its offshore location. He opposed political branches "govern(ing) without legal restraint."

He expressed concerns about usurping "power to switch the Constitution on or off at will." Doing so "lead(s) to a regime in which they, not this Court, say 'what the law is.' "

"Even when the United States acts outside its borders, its powers are not 'absolute and unlimited' but are subject 'to such restrictions as are expressed in the Constitution."

He called habeas "an indispensable mechanism for monitoring the separation of powers."

"The test for determining (its) scope must not be subject to manipulation by those whose power it is designed to restrain."

British Think-Tank Warns Smart Meters Susceptible to Terrorist Attacks

The Foundation for Information Policy Research (FIPR), a think-tank for Internet policy in Britain that facilitates “understanding and dialogue between business, government and NGOs across Europe”, is warning the UK government that their ability to tap into homes via smart meters is allowing the possibility for that information to be seized by hackers, and used against the energy corporations during fuel shortages that may happen in the future.

FIPR is urging that this information may be used as blackmail or fuel for a hostile attack against the UK government by a foreign power or terrorist group. This information would be most likely sold to identity thieves as well as able to be manipulated by energy corporations.

Smart meters have the capacity to spy on you in your home. They collect data on the electrical usage in your home, then that information is remotely sent to a central database at your utilities corporation.

Caroline Speilman, UK Environment Secretary, has been using smart meters to force families to conserve water through monitored usage and price gouging.

The US was never free. Its state today lies in its slave roots yesterday. In fact much of the worlds current impasse lies in issues yet to be logically resolved...from the perilous state of women, to the impact of religion on our ability to reason.

Although moving slower in some areas than others, there is little doubt that the plan to number, track, and trace every human being on the planet via biometric data and other digital means is moving forward in every country in the world.

The Japanese have had a mandatory national UID system in place since 2002, under the Basic Resident Register (BRR) program.

Under the BRR, each individual must provide their name, birthdate, gender, and physical address to municipal governments who, in turn, issue the citizen a UID.

However, a new initiative, called My Number Bill, was introduced in February 2012 that would streamline the information sharing process between government tax, social security, and emergency mitigation agencies. This is merely the next phase toward the goal of the Japanese government to centralize already-collected information about each one of its citizens and to expand this program to contain even more data.

The information collected on Japanese citizens under their current system will be fed into a nationwide computer database known as the Juki-net, which is made up of 3,200 municipal governments. The Juki-net serves as the common data sharing database between the municipal governments and, to some extent, the central government.

In June of 2011, the US military admitted to having drone technology so sophisticated that it could be the size of a bug.

In what is referred to as the “microaviary” on Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, drones are in development and design to replicate the flight patterns of moths, hawks and other air-borne creatures of the natural world.

Greg Parker, aerospace engineer, explains: “We’re looking at how you hide in plain sight” for the purpose of carrying out espionage or kill missions.

Cessna-sized Predator drones, used to carry out unmanned attacks, are known around the world. The US Pentagon has an estimated 7,000 aerial drones in their arsenal.

In 2011, the Pentagon requested $5 billion for drones from Congress by the year 2030.

Columnist Laurie Roberts: We are sick of extremists running things

Arizona Republic columnist Laurie Roberts on Sunday explained her campaign to “De-kookify the Capitol.”

Appearing on ABC 12 News’ Sunday Square Off, Roberts said she was “after those people who are ideologues, who come into the legislature with their rigid set of views they want to accomplish.”

“The idea of working with anybody outside of their comfort zone is tantamount to treason,” she complained. In particular, Roberts singled out Arizona legislation that attacked the United Nations and so-called “birther” bills proposed by lawmakers.

All Over America Government Agents of Tyranny Are Forcing Preppers Back On To The Grid

In recent years there have been huge numbers of Americans that have sought to go "off the grid" and live a more independent lifestyle. It has been estimated that there are now approximately 3 million "preppers" in the United States, and many of them just want to be left alone so that they can take care of themselves and their families on their own land. But that is not the way America works anymore.

In many areas of the country, government control freaks have essentially declared war on preppers and are attempting to force them back on to the grid. In some states, "nuisance abatement teams" are conducting armed raids on off the grid properties. Property owners are being cited for "code violations" and are being told that they are "bothering the neighbors". In some cases, trees and gardens are being forcibly removed. In other cases, entire structures are being relocated or torn down. And in the most extreme cases, property owners are actually being forced off of their properties completely by these control freaks.

Despite some lip service being paid by a small portion of Congress about the threat of drones being used for indiscriminate targeted killings at home and abroad, the truth is that Congress has already fully welcomed drones into American skies. Corporate mercenaries are simultaneously in a commercial race to the bottom and have gone international with no disclosure.

In just a few short years, we have witnessed the revelation (and disbelief) of drone tests on American soil, to micro drones commissioned by local police departments, to worldwide outrage over drone bombings around the world and the innocents killed, to the realization that drone tech is reaching disturbing levels as constant surveillance threatens to reach into our own backyards.

Perhaps more than where we are at, it is where we are going.

Global Telecom Governance Debated at European Parliament Workshop

In recent weeks, the corner of the blogosphere that concerns itself with Internet-related policy has come alive with posts, comments and op-eds addressing the theory that a little-known United Nations telecom agency, the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), is gearing up for an Internet power grab. Concerns about this possibility spurred a U.S. Congressional hearing last month; and across the Atlantic, a June 19 workshop hosted at the European Parliament in Brussels provided a forum to sort out “Challenges to the Internet Governance Regime” as they relate to the ITU.

The UN agency, which is made up of 193 member states and specializes in information and communication technologies, is in the midst of preparing for a December conference where it will re-negotiate an important treaty establishing the International Telecommunication Regulations (ITRs).

These regulations lay the ground rules for how big telecoms interact with one another in an international context, setting up systems for things like revenue-sharing, and have historically only dealt with telephony and have never reached into the realm of Internet architecture. At Tuesday’s workshop, representatives from the European Commission, civil society organizations, Google, and other organizations were on hand to share their insights about the how this treaty revision may affect Internet governance.

Mind Control and the New World Order

On 28 November 1953, at 2 am, a man crashed through a closed window and fell to his death from the 10th floor of the Statler Hotel in New York City. He was identified as Frank Olson, a bacteriologist with the US Army Research Center at Fort Detrick, Maryland. He had fallen from a room he shared with another scientist, Robert Lashbrook. It was ruled a suicide.

Twenty-two years later, in 1975, William Colby, then CIA director, declassified documents that changed the complexion of the case. It was revealed that Olson had actually been an undercover CIA operative at Fort Detrick, and that one week prior to his death, he had been drinking Cointreau at a high-level meeting with scientists at Deep Creek Lodge in rural Maryland. The Cointreau was laced with a large dose of LSD administered by his CIA boss, Sidney Gottlieb. He was then sent to New York with Lashbrook, also with the CIA, to see a psychiatrist because the LSD had induced a psychosis.

It was also revealed that Olson had been part of the top secret CIA program that was known as Project MK-ULTRA, exploring the use of chemicals and drugs for purposes of mind control, and bacteriological agents for covert assassination. Olson had been working on ways to deliver anthrax in aerosol form, for use as a weapon. New evidence that came to light, through the persistent efforts of Olson’s son Eric, made the suicide ruling highly suspect.

It turned out that Olson had been labelled a security risk by British intelligence after getting upset witnessing human experimentation on a trip to Frankfurt, Germany the previous summer. Eric Olson now believes that his father was drugged and then murdered to make sure that he didn’t reveal the secrets of the MK-ULTRA project. Following the 1975 revelations, the government must have felt more than a little guilt about the affair because Olson’s family was given a 17 minute audience with US President Ford, who apologised to them, and they were awarded damages in the amount of $750,000.
