Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Back in the 70s I was in the wilderness in Northern BC hunting with my uncle. To our surprise we came to a clearing and there was a mushroom shaped house with veggie garden and tools. A hippie girl came out and invited us in for a cup of tea. It turned out they had power, food and everything they needed. They were a couple of US draft dodgers and their girlfriends that fled to the Canadian wilderness. At the time I was astounded at what they had accomplished in such a inhospitable place in just a few years time. I always wanted to go back there to see if they were still there, but I never got the chance.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
There is a forest within driving distance from our house. We would go there occasionally to walk the trails, ride our bikes and collect leaves in the fall. We would take our daughter and our niece with us (7 and 4 years old). Every time we would go, we would notice that the trail, to gain entrance into forest, had changed. My husband is never one to comment on things that are paranormal or anything related to this subject. So, this took me by surprise when he did mention this. At the entrance to the forest, there is an Indian burial ground, with a large rock and story about the Indian chief and his family that's buried alongside of him. There have been many stories about this forest about people seeing red flashes of light darting through the woods at night and residents who live across from the forest have reported hearing Indian drums at night. After visiting this forest many times, my daughter and niece revealed to us what they had been seeing every time we would walk the trail. They said that as we walked through the woods they saw Indians hiding behind trees (a few) dressed in animal skins and carried a bow and arrow. They also saw a man walking through the forest dressed in old fashioned clothes, and as he looked at us, he looked bewildered. There are rumors that this forest is haunted, but we never mentioned this to my daughter or niece, not wanting to scare them.

True story.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
OK here’s another weird story.

This one happened in the inner city but there is a wooded park involved so….

I have always been a star gazer and even now I like checking out the full moon and stars at night. One summer night in my childhood when I was eight or nine stands out in my memory and in the memory of the others that were present. We grew up on a small street on the boarder of the inner city. The street is only 1 block long to the West where it ends at a street running North to South separating our street from an old Park full of big old Oak trees, to the East it ends at a major North to South street and a fenced in golf course.

The weird event took place in the early evening of a hot day in July or August in the mid ‘60’s. Being from a small street us kids (7-10 of us) were somewhat of a gang that always hung out and played together. At the time we were all between the ages of 7-11.We were playing base ball at the baseball diamond adjacent to the park, the sun had set and a full moon was extending our fun filled day. While I was waiting for my turn to be up at bat I looked up at the moon and noticed a white light that was moving away from it, the light either came from in front of the moon or behind it; I pointed it out to the others who were with me, as we watched it split and become two bright white lights. At that time we were quite dumfounded and quite scared, we fled very quickly toward the nearby park. In the shelter of the Old Oak trees there, we stopped to gather our breaths (and wits). Someone asked me if “it was still around” and when I looked directly upwards I saw the two lights and pointed them out again to the others. They were now much closer and brighter, as we watched them they started to rotate around a central point growing further and further apart and brighter. At this point we knew that it was coming directly at us, and we again fled, this time across the street and toward our homes. Upon reaching our Hood we stopped, taking refuge behind a cement wall. We all looked over it to look to see if it was still coming, and it was. My friends and brother seemed to be frozen. I could see two large lights moving toward us through the trees and a dark shape in between them. I bolted off to the safety of my house and parents. I wasn’t too hysterical but I was breathing hard upon my entry, my mother was on the phone talking to someone and wouldn’t heed my pleas to go outside and see what was going on. When I went to return to my brother and friends outside she physically held me back. After what seemed to me to be a long time my older brother arrived visibly shaken, he asked our mother if I had told her about what was going on and why she didn’t come out to see. She wouldn’t answer him and sent us both off to bed. I asked my brother what happened after I left, he explained to me that it was a very large craft of some type, it was in the shape of a Triangle and had a center light that was much larger than the full moon when it passed directly overhead without a sound.
I still kick myself in the arse, I should have stayed with the others to see it pass overhead, that would have been so Cool.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I rented a cabin in the woods in Big Sur for a weekend about two years ago. The cabin was located in a very dark redwood forest.

As I was lying in bed the first night, I got a strange feeling and then something that is hard to explain in words happened. A ball of sound came rushing at me, seeming to come from the bedroom window, like some sort of energy ball. The sound was menacing, but hearing the sound I could somehow "see" the shape of it, like a ball of energy.

It freaked me out and I laid awake for a couple of hours afterwards and eventually drifted into twilight sleep. In twilight sleep I heard a woman calling for help and "saw" I guess in a dream/twilight hallucination a young blonde woman at the top of the stairs that led down to the bedroom.

The next day I told the owner, who lived in another house on the property, about the dream of the girl calling for help. He then told me that a woman had been murdered in the house years ago before he owned it.

He was a very creep man. I wonder if it really happened before he owned the house?

Has anyone every experienced this "ball of sound" phenomenon?

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
Growing up in the 60s and 70s, we spent summers in my mother's little home town in NW Louisiana, on the border of Arkansas and Texas.

The home she grew up in was surrounded by dense woods on three sides.

There was a trail thru the southernmost area of woods that had been there as long as any of us could remember. My mom and her siblings used it in the 1930s and it was already old when they were kids.

We'd cut thru on that trail to go to town - which consisted of a store, a post office, a small library and my grandfather's oil field construction business. Real rural area.

We played in those woods very often, as did my mom and her cohorts as kids - we sometimes found kitchen utensils, old toys, etc that they'd left behind over the years.

There were two big sink holes, one on either side of the trail about half way thru the woods.

It was creepy walking thru that area as it was rumored to be two graves belonging to two tramps that had disappeared decades before while riding the rails.

One day when I was about 11, I took a dare to go walk into the depressions. They werent very deep, but obvious enough to notice from the trail.

I did it, believing my mom that they werent graves but just naturally occurring depressions in the earth.

The pine straw was deep, and i started moving it with my foot to clear an area so I could see the earth, trying to see how deep the actual hole was without the covering of straw and leaves.

I saw something I thought was a root when I disturbed the pine straw, and I bent down to look closer at it.

It was the knuckle-bones of a human hand.

I ran, unable to even scream, right past my cousins and friends back to my grandmother's yard.

I told mom, she laughed and didnt believe me. But I know what I saw.

After that, I never took the trail again - I'd walk the hiway and risk getting hit by an 18 wheeler every time.

A few years ago I went back there, but the trail was completely obliterated - filled in and overgrown.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
In the mid 90's I went with a friend that was going to look at a car he was thinking about buying. His plan was to drive it home if possible, and he would need someone to drive his van.

We were in a fairly nice area in northern California, with homes that were at the time, quite expensive. We drove out of a neighborhood, and toward a big eucalyptus grove. I say big, but really don't know how large it was.

He pulled off the paved road onto a dirt road that winded through the trees. I assumed the road would take us to a house.

But as he slowly drove through down the road I started to get a strange feeling. We drove at a very slow pace due to the ruts in the road. It had also rained recently.

We came to a small clearing, and I saw cars, and a makeshift outbuilding of some sort. There were dogs on short chains, a couple of dirty kids, and some chickens.

This scene repeated several times as we drove along. Sometimes there were adults that would look at us with caution, or even distrust.

It felt like I was in a different time, or at least a different place. Maybe some poor forgotten area. We found the place with the car for sale, and I stayed in the van while he talked to the guy. They couldn't come to an agreement, so we left.

The whole grove was maybe...20 acres or a little more. I realize there are homeless encampments everywhere, and were back then too. It just had such a strange feel. Like they were lost in time. Even the newest vehicle was twenty years old, and very few seemed to be in running condition. Had it not been for the cars from the 70's, I would have put the encampment in the 30's or older.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
This story is about a house but it was in the woods. I sold my house & started renting. The first house I moved to was too close to town & I'm used to being in the sticks so I was ecstatic when I found a nice house to rent in the woods.

It was perfect, fairly new, beautiful woods & lots of wildlife. I loved that house. But when my year's lease was just about up the landlords decided to sell it. They gave me four months notice of their intentions.

I had never had repair type problems there but soon after the landlords told me they wanted to sell it all hell broke loose. Almost at the same time the house started falling apart with electrical problems, plumbing & septic problems, telephone problems, etc. The strange part is that many of the workmen couldn't fix the problems! And if they did the same or new problems would happen.

A power pole in front even snapped in half one night when it was a clear and still night - no wind.

Then the strangest things started to happen. Lights would go on & off by themselves & same for appliances. One night I awoke to a strong wind in the house. I got up to check doors & windows but all were closed! I had never used the A/C and it was off. But yet this wind had blown papers from the desk & table all over.

Knick-knacks would jump off shelves and pictures on walls would crash down. But by far the worst thing was what the recliner chair did. One night I awoke to my dog growling & barking and to a banging sound in front room. I ran into front room and the recliner was violently extending & retracting over and over again all by itself! I couldn't believe my eyes! I was only half packed at that point or otherwise I would have left that night I was so unnerved. I usually stay calm & cool but the chair incident had me scared.

The poor cat who usually slept in that chair was desperately jumping against a door trying to get out. To this day she will not sleep in that chair. She must have been sleeping in it that night. Poor thing.

A few days after that incident one of the utility companies that couldn't fix a problem had someone (an expert they said) flown in from another area. He was a Native American man who seemed to be in his fifties. I answered the door & invited him in. He entered and just stood there looking around. He didn't talk for a few minutes and then said, "Don't move!"

I was dumbfounded! He then explained that he was also a medicine man and that when he had tried to fix the outside lines a new problem would instantly appear. He told me that the "house spirits" did not want me to move, that they liked me but had not liked other tenants.

I told him that I had no choice but to move and had to. He told me that I had to talk to the "house spirits" and tell them that. I asked him what "house spirits" were and he told me that these were Native Americans that had lived on the land. He was very solemn about the whole thing so I decided to take him seriously.

I did talk to these "house spirits". I told them that I didn't want to move and would stay forever if I had my way. I told them I had no choice since I didn't own the house. I also thanked them for their hospitality. I felt a little silly but was getting desperate.

After that day there were no more problems and all the workmen were able to fix the house problems. Looking back it did all seem to start when I started packing the first boxes!

The repair man called me several days later after he had been there & I told him that I did what he said and that things seemed to be back to normal. He seemed pleased.

Another strange thing happened. I had stepped out on deck to enjoy a cup of coffee one morning just a couple days before I moved. It was very early morning. I heard something on the deck steps. I walked over to the top of steps & there was a young fox at the bottom step. He came up to just one step away from me. I started talking softly to him and he just stood there looking up at me listening to me. He stayed for a few minutes then turned around and disappeared into the woods - a magical good-bye.

I have told some family and friends about it and they give me "that look" like, poor over-worked girl is delusional. If the tables were turned, and I hadn't lived through it, I guess I would do the same as they.

When my brothers and i were young we would walk around in my papaws woods, which is in Monroe Indiana near the "black lady's grave." We ran across a cabin that smelled so Damn good like cookies and cake and candy. Normal on the outside. No driveway or anything. Just in the middle of dense woods. Just to ass around we knocked on the door.

An old woman came out with huge glasses and thick lenses. She invites us in.

This was the real hansel and gretel.

She had kids toys, guns, backpacks, canteens, keys, boxes, clothes. Everything. She gave us drinks in Styrofoam cups. We said we had to go and left.

She came to the door And said drink your water boys. I had poked a hole in mine and my brother dumped his and we acted and thanked her.

So Damn creepy.

My grandpa said that cabin doesn't exist.

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
My first semester of college I decided to go on a walk in a wooded area with some people I had just met. It was our first week in school and we were just getting to know each other...

It was nearly 10pm and very dark with little illumination from the moon. We were walking along a chain link fence looking for a good spot to hop over and head into the woods. A portion of the fence had been cut and it formed a perfect archway. We walked through it and trudged through some thick grass heading for the trees.

After walking around for 20 minutes or so and joking around everyone took a break in a small clearing to smoke cigarettes and talk. I listened in to several conversations and started to get extremely paranoid because they were talking about me.....but personal experiences that had happened in my life. There was no way they could have known those things about me because I didn't know any of them.

Something weird happened. I guess I blacked out or something. I remember being enveloped in white light... not physically but just that I experienced light in my mind or something.. I came back into consciousness kneeling beneath a large tree and I was alone freaked as hell and wondering what happened..

I found my way back but couldn't sleep that night. By my recollection I lost 5 minutes of my life, at least thats what it seemed like.. I didn't have a watch so it could have been longer.. I approached some of the people I had gone into the woods with the next day to find out what the hell happened, but no one remembered going in there with me, or at least denied it... I was so disturbed by this experience I packed my shit and got a job cleaning windows.... Very profound experience that potentially changed my course in life...

Re: Wierd things you have seen in the woods.
I got a special wilderness permit to go into an area in the mountains in CA where they hadn't allowed foot traffic in, in twenty years. There were no trails. It was myself and two other Marines and we did it in exchange for seeing if there was a rare kind of trout in the streams up there. I guess the forest service didn't have anyone who wanted to do it. I'm not sure I was set up with this by a friend. Anyway we hiked for two days with no trails using just a map and compass and on the second day we walked around this huge cliff to find a full on cabin with a lawn and solar power and washer and dryer the whole nine yards all built into the rock face of the cliff. You couldn't see it from above so it had gone unoticed for years. We talked to the guy that lived there and he said we were the first people he had seen hike in, in 14 years. He was a retired helicopter pilot and he had flown all the equipment in by helo. He was squatting on federal land and knew it but didn't seem worried. He said he hikes out every two weeks for supplies by a different route then we came in and he showed it to us. We used that route to get back as he had a trail beaten down so the walking was easier. All in all it was pretty cool. The trout the forest service was looking for were in the creeks so it is still closed to foot travel and we never told the forest service about the old helicopter pilot so I would bet he is still out there.

He sure is going to alot of trouble to get supplies and live in such a remote area. It sounds like he knows something we don't.
