Well I felt the Virgina quake and that was probably only half of it's strength when it rattled the city.

It's said anything over a strong 4.0 could do serious damage to the city with all the brick buildings crumbling. Lets hope you're wrong.

Dude, there are multiple fault lines that run through NYC that can produce large earthquakes. New York is in fact overdue. In the 1700's a 6.3 earthquake struck. If that occurred today, it would be catastrophic.

One crucial difference is the Alaskan subduction zone hasn't stored up enough energy to generate a large earthquake/tsunami. The East Coast has over a dozen faultines scattered over hundreds of miles that could generate a magnitude 6.0 or higher.

and why are some assuming there can't be an earthquake here ? there are fault lines and with the bedrock they rock and roll very differently than soil etc.
