[[Summary Page 33]] The Life of Jesus Christ was announced by the Prophets... Fulfilled prophecy is the certain evidence that God's Word [i.e., Holy Scripture] is true! Biblical scholars tell us that there are over two thousand fulfilled prophecies found in the Bible. Of these, over three hundred acurately give specific details about the historical Jesus. For example, Isaiah 53 was written over seven hundred years before the birth of Jesus Christ and yet it beautifully describes His life: "He was despised and rejected by men, a man of sorrows... and afflicted. He was pierced for our sins and crushed for our iniquities. The punishment that brought us peace was upon Him and by His wounds we are healed." Indeed, this whole chapter describes the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ with amazing accuracy. Fulfilled prophecy is the undeniable evidence that the Holy Spirit is the origins of human history. Even the birth place of the Messiah was foretold in Holy Scripture [Micah 5:2]. Biblical prophecy has never failed. Yet it was our weaknesses he carried; it was our sorrows that weighed him down. And we thought his troubles were a punishment from God, a punishment for his own sins! Isa 53:5 But he was pierced for our rebellion, crushed for our sins. He was beaten so we could be whole. He was whipped so we could be healed. Isa 53:6 All of us, like sheep, have strayed away. We have left God's paths to follow our own. Yet the LORD laid on him the sins of us all. Isa 53:7 He was oppressed and treated harshly, yet he never said a word. He was led like a lamb to the slaughter. And as a sheep is silent before the shearers, he did not open his mouth. Isa 53:8 Unjustly condemned, he was led away. No one cared that he died without descendants, that his life was cut short in midstream. But he was struck down for the rebellion of my people.
