On the one hand he was a 'murderous' fool, but on the other - like they say - Only Stalin could have dragged Russia into the 20th Century in less then 20 years. Contrary to popular belief, Stalin didn't set up prison camps to gas people to death, just work them to death making the ingredients needed for cement... digging mines... brick making... the list goes on and and on. Hero? Depends on one's point of view. |

Do you realize that if he didnt exist you also wouldnt be around. He saved the world from the nazis No. The russian people and the british people saved eurasia from the nazis. Stalin just pranced and screamed like a little girl while killing anyone who had something called an "opinion". |

Okay... which Russian leader saw the weakness of NAZI Germany with having no level bombers and then ordered massive tank, weapons and munitions factories to be built just west of absolutely nowhere... I mean, just west of Novosibirsk... so as to be able to build the largest tank force of WWII for a counterattack after the winter of 43? You can hate him for his methods and the massive loss of life he created (what, x4 what Hitler killed?), but not his results. |

IF THOU WARN THE WICKED of his way to turn from it; if he do not turn from his way, he shall die in his iniquity; but THOU HAST DELIVERED THY SOUL..." - Ezekiel 33:7-15 |

Hero? Depends on one's point of view. Would you rather be gassed or worked to death via starvation, exhaustion, and dehydration? No offense, but we are talking about what happened, not what I would prefer. I will not become insulting and accuse you of avoiding the argument by diverting the subject toward emotional appeal, so let's both stay on topic. Who else could have built 20th Century Russia and then the USSR? Russia has always had its "best of times" under the rule of a strong man. Peter the Great, a man who built a whole city where there was once nothing but swamp - Russia's first modern city I might add - only killed about 1,000,000 doing so. Why no fight against him? No one argues that Stalin wasn't a total fucking nut-job, but tell me, what about him isn't heroic in some certain sense? Who else but that limp armed mental/physical midget could have saved Russia from the menacing Hun? Who else could have made the USSR the world's second nuclear power, beating even the English and French in the race? Who else could have unified the largest continent on Earth via railroad? Who? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 1061562 United States 02/01/2012 03:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | He did stop the NAZI's thanks to the aid of American and British power. We also gave him Guns, Tanks, Planes and Bombs to fight with as well. Don't forget that. But he also murdered and imprisoned countless of his own countrymen. Doesn't sound like a hero to me. Just a tyrant fighting off another tyrant. If people in the USA start disappearing in the middle of the night and or are just killed in broad daylight by their own government, would you think our leader was a hero just because he won a war against foreign aggression? Freedom is the basic foundation of everything. No matter what else happens, if you don't have Freedom, you don't have anything. Our Constitution isn't perfect but if we manage to regain free markets and destroy Crony Capitalism than we'll be far better off than the rest of the world. This is how we became the jewel of the world to begin with. But continuing down this road towards Socialism, Fascism, Communism (what ever you want to call it) is only going to lead to destruction. |
