Iran busts Israeli terrorists in central, border provinces

" ... Iran's Intelligence Ministry says it has busted a major network of terrorism and sabotage with links to Israel in what seems to be a sign of escalation of Tel Aviv’s covert intelligence war against Tehran.


In a statement published on Tuesday, the Iranian Intelligence Ministry noted that arrested members of the Israeli terrorist network were planning to launch attacks against the country.

The Ministry added that the Israeli-affiliated terrorists were arrested after months of intelligence operations in central and border provinces.

Some of them, the statement noted, were totally prepared to carry out their terrorist operations when Iran's intelligence agents swooped down on them.

The Ministry further stated that large amounts of explosives, weapons and military equipment have also been seized.

“Further details will be released in the future,” the statement added.

This is not the first time Iran arrests CIA and Israeli spies. On May 30, 2011, members of a CIA espionage and sabotage network were arrested by the Iranian Intelligence Ministry.

On November 24, 2011, Iran announced the arrest of a dozen other CIA spies, who were found to have been on a mission to sabotage the country's nuclear facilities and other important compounds.

Another CIA espionage network with 12 members was busted in Iran and Lebanon in cooperation with the Lebanese resistance movement of Hezbollah.

Also on December 17, 2011, Iran's Intelligence Ministry announced the capture of an American CIA agent of Iranian decent, foiling an intricate US plot to carry out further espionage activities in the Islamic Republic following the capture of an American spy drone in northeastern Iran.

" Iran Deploying New Home-Made Radar System

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iran will start using a new home-made powerful radar system in coming days, a senior Iranian commander announced on Monday.

"Samen Radar System will come online in the next ten days," Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli told FNA.

"We are now deploying it," the commander said, adding that Samen's range is "good" and is able to detect and identify targets with very low Radar Cross Section (RCS).

Esmayeeli stated that the radar will be stationed in the most far-fetched and remote areas first and will later be deployed throughout the country.

In February, the Iranian Armed Forces launched new radar and missile systems with various ranges all throughout Iran.

Tens of radar and missile systems with various ranges were manufactured and deployed in Iran's defense sector and new systems were to join the defense network during the 10-Day Dawn celebrations, marking the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran.

Iran has recently renewed and upgraded the weapons and defense systems of its air defense units.

Also in February, Iran's air defense units assessed the performance and capabilities of different types of mobile and fixed radar systems during Sarallah military drills in Southern Iran.

During the air defense wargames, different fixed and mobile radar systems manufactured and upgraded by Iranian experts and under the control of Iran's integrated air defense network were used.

Kasta and NEBO radars as well as the Iran-made Kashef (Discoverer) and Matla ol-Fajr (The Start of Dawn) radars were used to detect and identify aerial threats. " .

Venezuelan president in Cuba for radiation therapy

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez is in Cuba for another round of radiation therapy after he underwent surgery twice in Cuba to remove cancerous tumors.

Chavez was welcomed by President Raul Castro at Havana's international airport, the state newspaper Juventud Rebelde said.

The 57-year-old president spent time with family members in his native state of Barinas in the west of the country between courses of radiation treatment.

Chavez, who is challenging for another presidential term this year, is expected to undergo five weeks of radiation treatment in Havana.

However, he has planned to return Venezuela for brief periods during that time.

He underwent the first two rounds of treatment in Havana, where he underwent surgery last month to take out a malignant tumor in the same area where another tumor was removed in June 2011.

Yasumi Iwakami Interviewing Dr. Shuntaro Hida, Who Says "There Is Nowhere to Escape in Japan"
Iwakami, who disclosed his health problems since his tour of Fukushima I Nuclear Power Plant on Twitter, was interviewing Dr. Shuntaro Hida a while ago (April 12, 2012) which was live on USTREAM.

The part I caught was when Iwakami was asking the doctor about his recent ill health. Iwakami said every time he went to Fukushima he would suffer a dry cough, which would last for a while even after he came back to Tokyo. He didn't think much of that until recently.

Iwakami looked bleary. He asked Dr. Hida what he could do to improve his health, and asked for the doctor's advice to people who remain in Fukushima.

Dr. Hida said something that Hiroaki Koide of Kyoto University has been saying from the beginning of the nuclear disaster. He said, "There is nowhere to escape in Japan, because Japan is too small. Not all people in Fukushima can relocate."

Fukushima's population is about 2 million, or 1.6% of Japanese population (128 million). Surely there is enough space in Japan with rapidly declining population to absorb 2 million residents.......

Despite the European Union’s sanctions against Iran's oil sector, oil and gas companies from 15 European states have thus far put in a request to take part in Tehran’s 17th International Oil, Gas, Refining, and Petrochemical Exhibition.


“So far, 1,255 domestic and foreign companies from 44 countries have registered to take part in this international exhibition,” Eshaq Rouyvar, the director of the 17th Iranian oil show, noted on Thursday.

He added that despite the international sanctions on Iran, the number of the countries participating in this year’s exhibition has increased about 10 percent compared to the last year.

Rouyvar stated that the participants include 940 Iranian and 315 foreign companies, Mehr News Agency reported.

“So far, companies from Austria, Spain, the United Arab Emirates, the UK, Italy, Iran, Germany, Turkey, Switzerland, China, Russia, Singapore, Sweden, France, South Korea, Malaysia, Norway, the Netherlands, India, Uzbekistan, Australia, Ukraine, Indonesia, the US, Brazil, Pakistan, Thailand, Turkmenistan, Romania, Zambia, Japan, Sudan, Iraq, Oman, Finland, Kazakhstan, Cameroon, Canada, Kuwait, Libya, Morocco, Mongolia, Mexico, and Nigeria have registered” to take part in the exhibition, Rouyvar said.

At least 70,000 babies HIV positive in Nigeria

OGUN, Nigeria - The Nigerian government on Thursday said about 70,000 newly born babies in the West African country are HIV positive.

Director-General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) John Idoko disclosed this in Nigeria's southwestern state of Ogun during a call on State governor Ibikunle Amosun in Abeokuta, the state capital.

Idoko also said HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria were prevalent among Nigerian pregnant women.

He stressed that the agency was ready to partner with the Ogun State government on preventive policy.

Idoko called for the improvement of the State Action Committee on AIDS (SACA) to be able to fight the spread of the scourge.

According to him, the agency was willing to collaborate with any agency to improve the health status of the Nigerian people.

Idoko urged all levels of government to assist the agency in strengthening the fight against HIV/AIDS and other related diseases, saying the agency would work hard to eliminate mother- to-child transmission.

Analyst: US Congress ‘puppet of corporate machine’

" ... The comments were made by Leah Bolger, the Oregon-based president of the antiwar organization Veterans for Peace, who was sentenced to 60 days in jail for disrupting a Congress session, in an interview with Press TV’s US Desk on Sunday.

“On the 12th of April, I went to the court and I pleaded guilty to a charge of unlawful conduct of disruption of Congress. And I pleaded guilty because yes I did disrupt Congress and actually I wish I could have disrupted it more,” she said.

“I wish I could have changed the status quo that the Congress has become just a puppet of the corporate machine,” the anti-corporate activist added.

Bolger disrupted a public hearing of the Joint Select Committee on Deficit Reduction in the US Congress on October 26, 2011.

“I have come to understand what millions of Americans already know - that the actual majority will of the people is of little concern to those in power,” Bolger said in her defense statement to Judge Stuart Nash in the Superior Court of the District of Columbia, Washington.

She went on to say that nationwide campaigns against the excessive power of corporations in the US do not get anywhere because of “the power of the money coming from the lobbyists and corporate interests.”

“We can demonstrate and petition and write letters until we are blue in the face, but those actions are virtually worthless, as we can't compete. Our voice is drowned out by the power of the money coming from the lobbyists and corporate interests. Money equals speech,” she pointed out.

The president of Veterans for Peace finally noted that she was speaking at the court “on behalf of 99 percent” of Americans.

The term 99-percenters is derived from the mantra “We are the 99 percent" used by anti-corporate protesters in the US who want to distinguish themselves from the one percent of Americans in possession of the greatest portion of the nation's wealth. .... " .

What Are Israeli Drones Doing in Azerbaijan?

TEHRAN (FNA)- Israel's growing military and intelligence cooperation with Iran's Northern neighboring state of Azerbaijan and the increasing number of the Israeli drones in the Caucasian country have raised serious questions about the ultimate goals and objectives behind the move.


Azerbaijan has recently purchased military equipment from Israel for an amount of $1.6 billion. Details of this purchase were never mentioned, but now the veil of secrecy is being lifted.

Also obtained were five Heron and five Searcher UAVs. The Israeli Heron TP is a 4.6 ton aircraft that can operate at 14.5 kilometers. The Heron TP has a one ton payload, enabling it to carry sensors that can give a detailed view of what's on the ground, even from that high up.

The endurance of 36 hours makes the Heron TP a competitor for the US MQ-9 Reaper. The Searcher 2 is a half-ton aircraft with an endurance of 20 hours, max altitude of 7,500 meters and can operate up to 300 kilometers from the operator. It can carry a 120 kg payload.

Among the items ordered were Gabriel anti-ship missiles. These are 522 kg weapons with a range of 36 kilometers.

For air defense, there are Barak-8 systems, including 75 missiles. The Barak missiles cost about $1.6 million each, weigh 98 kg with 21.8 kg warhead and have a range of ten kilometers. The missiles are mounted in an eight cell container (which requires little maintenance) and are launched straight up.

The radar system provides 360 degree coverage and the missiles can take down an incoming anti-ship or cruise missile as close as 500 meters away. Each Barak system (missile container, radar, computers and installation) costs about $24 million. The missile is also effective against aircraft and can be mounted on ships or trucks.

Also part of the deal is a Green Pine radar system, which Israel uses for its missile defense system. Green Pine can detect incoming ballistic missiles up to 500 kilometers away, but can also spot approaching warplanes.

Although, Azerbaijan has told Tehran that these weapons were not intended for belligerent purposes against Iran, but for settling a territorial dispute with neighboring Armenia, analysts said that the equipments and Israel's access to airbases in Azerbaijan prove to the otherwise and will leave negative impacts on regional peace and security.

To add to the sensitivity of the issue, Azerbaijan recently sheltered several Mossad agents who had escaped from Iran after assassinating an Iranian nuclear scientist.

Iranian officials had earlier warned Azerbaijan not to shelter the Zionist regime's terrorist agents whose mission is carrying out acts of sabotage and espionage against Iran.

The Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned Azeri Ambassador to Tehran Javanshir Akhundov to protest at Baku for sheltering several Mossad-trained terrorists who had assassinated the Iranian scientists.

In January and in the fifth attack of its kind in two years, a magnetic bomb was attached to the car of 32-year-old Mostafa Ahmadi Roshan in the capital, Tehran. His driver was also killed in the terrorist attack.

The blast took place on the second anniversary of the martyrdom of Iranian university professor and nuclear scientist, Massoud Ali Mohammadi, who was also assassinated in a terrorist bomb attack in Tehran in January 2010.

The assassination method used in the January bombing was similar to the 2010 terrorist bomb attacks against the then university professor, Fereidoun Abbassi Davani - who is now the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization - and his colleague Majid Shahriari. While Abbasi Davani survived the attack, Shahriari was martyred.

Another Iranian scientist, Dariush Rezaeinejad, was also assassinated through the same method on 23 July 2011.

Iranian Intelligence Minister Heidar Moslehi underscored that the US, Israeli and British spy agencies were involved in the terrorist attacks against the Iranian scientists.

The London Times reported in February that Israel is using Azerbaijan, a small Eurasian country which shares a border with Iran, as a base to spy on the Tehran government.

DM: Production of Iranian S-300 Missile System in "Good Progress"

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Ahmad Vahidi said that Iran has achieved good results in developing and producing the Iranian version of the sophisticated Russian S-300 air defense missile system.


"The production of an alternative (air defense) missile system for S-300 is underway and parts of the work have been done and yielded good results so far," Vahidi told reporters on the sidelines of military parades staged on the occasion of the National Army Day here in Tehran on Tuesday.

Vahidi added that relevant information about the latest developments in the production of the sophisticated missile system will be announced this Iranian year (started on March 20).

In December, a top Iranian Air Defense commander announced that the designing phase of the Iranian version of S-300 air defense missile system has ended and the system would soon be manufactured and delivered to the country's integrated air defense network.

"The design of the system has been accomplished by local elite experts," Commander of Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmayeeli told reporters.

"The system has been designed by Khatam ol-Anbia Air Defense Command, Iranian industries and academic centers and will join the country's air defense network in the near future," Esmayeeli noted.

He further said that the missile system, dubbed as Bavar (Belief) 373, is even more powerful and more advanced than the Russian S-300.

"Bavar 373 system is an important and completely indigenous achievement that can be a powerful rival for S-300," the commander reiterated.

Under a contract signed in 2007, Russia was to provide Iran with at least five S-300 air-defense systems. But later, Moscow shrugged off doing its end of the bargain under different excuses.

Moscow's continued delays in delivering the defense system drew criticism from the Islamic Republic on several occasions.

And eventually, Russia refused to deliver the system to Iran under the pretext that the system is covered by the fourth round of UN Security Council resolutions against Iran.

China Now Tops U.S. in Space Launches

For the first time ever, China has launched more rockets into orbit in a year than the U.S. In 2011, the Chinese sent 19 rockets into space. The U.S. sent just 18. Russia, the Walmart of space launches, fired off no fewer than 31 rockets.

The numbers, parsed in recent reports from the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration and the nonprofit Space Foundation, might seem to herald America’s orbital decline relative to its most bitter rival. In terms of sheer numbers of rocket launches, China has been steadily catching up to America for several years. In 2010, China fired off 15 rockets, matching the U.S. for the first time.

But the raw figures obscure the real trends. Beijing is not about to catch up to Washington in space. Chinese, Russian warships gather for drill

" ... QINGDAO - Chinese and Russian warships gathered at the eastern Chinese harbor of Qingdao Saturday to prepare for a joint exercise, slated for April 22-27 in the Yellow Sea.

A total of 16 vessels and two submarines from Chinese navy have been summoned at Qingdao of east China's Shandong Province, including five missile destroyers, five missile frigates, four missile boats, a support vessel and hospital ship. Together with them are 13 aircraft and five shipboard helicopters.

More than 4,000 Chinese servicemen will attend the drill, said the navy sources.

On Saturday, a Russian naval task force arrived at the naval base in Qingdao.

The task force, four warships from Russian navy's Pacific Fleet and three supply ships, left their home port in Vladivostok on April 15.

The Russian warships include the Pacific Fleet's flagship Varyag, a slava-class guided missile cruiser, and Marshal Shaposhnikov, Admiral Panteleyev and Admiral Vinogradov, three Udaloy-class destroyers.

According to China's Defense Ministry, the exercise will focus on joint maritime air defense, anti-submarine tactics, maritime search and rescue as well as joint effort to rescue hijacked vessels.... " .

The original debris map of Reactor 4's Spent Fuel Pool (created by Hitachi) was released by TEPCO on April 23, 2012 in the document for the Working Council for "Mid-and-long-Term Roadmap towards the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4".

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has the decay heat map of the same pool created by the US Department of Energy ("Official Transcript of Proceedings", released on May 26, 2011 (link is PDF), page 188).

The turbine can produce up to 1,000 liters of drinking water every day, according to Eole Water.

(CNN) -- Wind turbines have long produced renewable energy but a French engineering firm has discovered another eco-purpose for the towering structures.

Eole Water claims to have successfully modified the traditional wind turbine design to create the WMS1000, an appliance that can manufacture drinking water from humid air.

The company aims to start rolling out the giant products for sale later in 2012, initially focusing on remote communities in arid countries where water resources are scarce.

"This technology could enable rural areas to become self-sufficient in terms of water supply," says Thibault Janin, director of marketing at Eole Water.

"As the design and capabilities develop, the next step will be to create turbines that can provide water for small cities or areas with denser populations," he adds.

Eole Water is currently displaying a working prototype of the 24 meter tall WMS1000 in the desert near Abu Dhabi that has been able to produce 62 liters of water an hour, says Janin.

British authorities have for the first time admitted that some of the top secret systems within the Ministry of Defense (MoD) have been breached by computer hackers, local media reported.


The military's head of cyber-security Major General Jonathan Shaw revealed the violations, saying that the number of successful attacks was hard to quantify, British media reported.

"The number of serious incidents is quite small, but it is there," Shaw claimed, adding "and those are the ones we know about. The likelihood is there are problems in there we don't know about."

Shaw, a veteran of the Falklands and Iraq wars, also said the MoD had to be prepared to embrace unconventional and "wacky" ideas if the military wanted to catch up with, and then stay ahead of, rivals in the cybersphere.

" .... South Korean officials have seized thousands of smuggled drug capsules from China, which contain powdered flesh from dead infants and fetuses.


The South Korea Customs Service has discovered 35 smuggling attempts since August 2011 which include nearly 17,500 capsules disguised as stamina boosters.

The pills considered by some people as medicinal ‘cure-all’ and stamina booster were found to be full of bacteria and other harmful ingredients.

“It was confirmed those capsules contain materials harmful to the human body, such as super bacteria. We need to take tougher measures to protect public health,” a customs official told Korea Times.
