EBAY is a Ghost Town !!! Where is Everyone?

^^THIS^^ The new design is set up to try to be like Amazon, which actually leads you AWAY from actual auctions of the little seller. It is very difficult to navigate (and I'm pretty computer/internet savvy) compared to how it used to be.

It is just a joke! It's like they have a president TRYING TO DESTROY THE COMPANY.. Kinda like in our government now!!

I noticed the same thing myself this week on Ebay.

I have been putting together a video studio, and I had bought a few high end fluid head tripods in January, and there were bidding wars on them, the average price going out between $250 and $500

This week I saw two of the same exact Manfrotto tripods go out for the starting bids of $36, which is nuts

IMHO it's the price of gas. Thats why I think we're finally headed for a correction in the markets within some weeks, because consumer sentiment plunges in the US whenever the gallon goes over $4, no matter how the pundits try to spin that the "strong" job market makes gas prices irrelevant

Obama's chances of re-election go down with every 10c hike in gas, and restaurants and many stores are emptier now as well

I won't sell anything on ebay. why bother? the buyer will say that they never got the stuff or that it was damaged. Ebay will refund their money from your account and the buyer keep your stuff anyway.

So as someone who lost everything because they lost their eBay businesses. What does anyone recommend to do after eBay? Before Meg FATman took it over and ruined it, I did great at it. It was a great supplement to my SSDI income. Lost my home and everything because of them and they continued to take money even after my stores where closed -told me if I valued my credit, I would pay my eBay bills. (Bills are paid now) Nothing like over-aggressive Indian women calling and harrassing you at your father's house. Am moving to Indianapolis next month and want to start selling again to help pay the bills anyone have any ideas??

ebay has high fees and is very seller unfriendly. How hard is it to sell on Amazon? I may switch if there is a market for coins on amazon. I looked into webstore.com but it was just a few sellers with insane prices. Look at the ebay chatroom and forum, it's loaded with complaints!

Fook EBAY...it's crazy fees... and it's Paypal scammers.

In eBay's attempt to protect the buyer from bad sellers, they made it a one sided deal ONLY PROTECTING THE BUYERS (INCLUDING THE MULTITUDE OF DISHONEST BUYERS) and leaving NO PROTECTION for the sellers. This means many honest sellers left in droves!

Apparently eBay does not care... so again, they will be the ones suffering in the end (actually I think they are suffering now).

They should separate all the Buy it now vendors from the auction vendors or have an option to not show Buy it now vendors, auction only.
If someone was to resurrect the original E bay format under a different name they would make a fortune !

That sucks! You know how to bake? In my town, several high end cupcake shops have opened up in the last year. They sell nothing but expensive cupcakes and they are doing well. Seems that no matter how bad things are, people want their sweets. Just get you a good recipe and find a commercial kitchen you can rent time in maybe(church) and start that way until you can afford your own shop. I know a girl who was a pregnant high school drop out that did this recently. She needed a way to support her self and her baby. She is doing very well now.

I sell records / promo CDs and have just about totally gone over to Discogs.com . Have NEVER had a problem selling on either site ...But only pay half as much commission. Ha...have bought records on Ebay for $9.99 and resold on 'cogs $150-200 range. All the "serious" lp collectors are moving away from eBay.

Anything besides Craigslist, don't want to get murdered or scammed...

10 auctions in the past two weeks with good ending prices. Yes it sucks how big of a cut they take, but what in the world has the OP been selling?

Thanks, that's such an awesome idea. Great cook, but not really a baker. (most likely because you have to follow the recipes to a T) and I don't like to do that. I think it's creativity/focus thing.

I have plenty of stuff I would like to sell on Ebay, but I get the same ghost-town response. It began after the 2008 crash, became harder and harder to sell everyday items. It had to be something unique, collectible, or very cheap or hard to find. We do buy stuff, but mostly small electronics and cellular or computer accessory type things, reeds for the sax, etc. Small things that are too much to get at a music or electronics shop compared to Ebay. I've been waiting for it to pick up to list some things, but not sure if that will happen. Good observation though, OP. Definitely a sign of the times. Do you think it might correlate with the extra gas money people are having to spend right now, among other things? Food and rents are going up a lot here, too (San Diego). We also have like the highest gas in the nation. I tried to drive slow around town for too long (saved me gas), so now my tranny is burned out - can't win, lol.

I've used ebay for some things and had mixed results. The way I look at things is that there's nothing like buying new, and the best place is Amazon. You get the product fast and the shipping is cheap! Amazon Prime is great, second day shipping for free, lots of free movie streaming, etc. Amazons return policy is second to none. Also, I buy a decent number of used books on Amazon, often for a small fraction of the price new and lots of small sellers there.

In all, with ebay, you're rolling the dice on products with more hassles with a return.

Never used EBAY, or any other website like it, and never will.

Personally just closed my eBay account because of their new policy on sales and holding payment funds if you don't sell something almost daily.
I've been on there for 11 years, occasionally selling used computer parts from my shop until I sold a netbook a month ago for 218.00 and they put a 21 day hold on the payment.
I promptly refunded the payment, called to complain and closed my account.
They only cater the the large volume sellers now,and I've been ripped off by a few of the commie rat bastard from over seas and not gotten my money back...
In short, eBay SUCKS now....

I tried to use eBay last month, to buy some stuff. The stuff was supposed to arrive in a week. I couldn't log in to eBay, couldn't change my password or access it at all. Spent thirty-five minutes on the phone with them, finally got them to give me a temporary password, logged in, contacted the seller, waited two weeks, got a response, finally got my money refunded.

That was my first time using it. I'll stick to Craigslist.

Raising Prices Gets Tricky on eBay Thanks to Unannounced Policy

Sellers who want to raise their prices on eBay are being blocked when they attempt to manually revise the price of live listings upwards. eBay spokesperson Johnna Hoff said the new (unannounced) policy was created to improve the shopping experience. She explained:

"A significant price increase may change the value of the listing to buyers compared to other listings of the same item and result in a less-optimal shopping experience. Listings where a price increase significantly changes the value of the listing in relation to the market and to other available listings of the same item, will need to be relisted."

eBay Raises Cost of Domestic Goods, Lowers Costs of Asian Imports

Entrepreneurs and mom-and-pop sellers in the U.S. had to accept a bitter pill from eBay when it began charging a "commission" fee on shipping costs - something unheard of in commerce. At the same time, eBay is lowering shipping costs for Asian exporters selling goods to U.S. consumers.

By making U.S. goods more expensive (eBay advised its sellers to raise their prices to cope with the new fee), and helping make Chinese goods less expensive and easier to get, buyers on eBay may be more tempted to purchase items from China-based sellers than those in their own backyard.

I quit EBAYing years ago. I used to sell my high end toddler clothes there, but EBAY changed and so did the USPS. Together they killed a great fun! I LOVED going and looking up old Coleco Vision games and consoles, Fisher Price little people stuff, old Sears Roebuck, Service Merchandise, and JCPenny catalogs......especially he Christmas edition ones, and just various other things fom my childhood. Now, its not like a yard sale its like a retail online store. REAL BUMMER! What were they thinking?

I find it's the same thing when I go to physical stores. It's all cheap Chinese made crap, or it's hundreds of dollars.

Luckily in my town there are lots of artisans who still make nice things on the site but it's hard to even get good craft supplies unless you are at the commercial volume level. All there is where I live is Michaels and Jo-Anne.

The middle has disappeared for both quality and price, though I began noticing this in the early part of the last decade.

I pretty much only buy small items from China, dolls, and bras. I have expensive taste in everything so it helps to get $60+ bras for less than $10 a piece.

I just bought two covers for my ipod touch for less than $10 as well. I refuse to pay $20-$30 for the same Chinese made covers in Target or Best Buy.

I would never buy expensive electronics on ebay. The deals are better on amazon and you don't have to worry about fakes.

It's a fad though. Everyone is on the bandwagon so it's better to keep an eye out for the next 'new thing' and jump in early on. Some claim the next new thing is home-made marshmellows fwiw...
