Re: Picture of Mutated Japanese Tomato
After WWII, there was a concerted effort to find 'peaceful' uses for atomic energy. One of the ideas was to bombard plants with radiation and produce lots of mutations, some of which, it was hoped, would lead to plants that bore more heavily or were disease or cold-resistant or just had unusual colors. The experiments were mostly conducted in giant gamma gardens on the grounds of national laboratories in the US but also in Europe and countries of the former USSR.

These efforts utimately reached far into the world outside the laboratory grounds in several ways: in plant varieties based on mutated stocks that were—and still are—grown commercially, in irradiated seeds that were sold to the public by atomic entrepreneur C.J. Speas during the 50s and 60s and through the Atomic Gardening Society, started in England by Muriel Howorth to promote the mutated varieties.

It's easy to look back at it all as some crazy, or conspiratorial, plot. But the atomic gardens weren't a secret. They've just been forgotten. And it's clear from reading the primary sources that most people involved were deeply sincere. They really thought their efforts would eradicate hunger, end famine, prevent another war...

Wow, what an interesting concept.

Evolution is just mutation that ends up getting passed down through the generations because it turned out to be beneficial, so the introduction of radiation to increase the number of mutations increases the chances one of the mutations could be beneficial. And if you do it to enough plants you could very well find "good" mutations.

Speeding up the natural process of evolution. Interesting. I bet that would work if it was done over a longer period of time.

But even though it sounds good on paper, I'm quite certain it's bad. Don't fuck with mother nature.

Oh, it's just a prototype, man is busy creating the world in his image. Just imagine, a grocery store full of these modern designer vegetables and fruits. I bet businesses are already busy to make viable business opportunities with this. Or do you think man is stupid enough to build upon fault lines without some game changing plan in mind?

Then again, I won't be surprised that humans are the only ones to really suffer of the mess they created. Nature around Chernobyl seems to be doing pretty good without harassment humans that try to lay claim on earth and life itself.

Re: Picture of Mutated Japanese Tomato
Insanity of the human race boggles the mind.

Since the disaster struck, I've seen no joint efforts of professionals trying to stop this, to inform the public, to change our ways, etc.

All I've seen is new military propositions for middle east, people bitching and spitting on each other on account of religious and cultural differences.

All I've seen is shills desperately debunking the only honest info that manages to escape tight, controlled area of Japan. As if...as if they are not carbon based. As if nothing bad can come of the reactors, raging out of control.

What sticks with me is the sheer stupidity /madness of humanity. The arrogance. As if the capability to think left this planet. We deal with unthinkable amounts of time, as if it were some stats for some boring job. We toss around these facts, like they're nothing really. "Oh, it'll take some billion years for this amount of radioactive material to disintegrate"- AS IF we have such life spans.

Think about it- we will loooooong be gone. And the way the info is being held from masses, is quite unsettling. Who's to say that in 20-50-100 or 200 years from now, the info of contaminated areas won't disappear from public and the poor will be made to live in affected areas, eat irradiated food and die.

Frankly, when I think of F-shima, I feel like crying my soul out. We just f+++ed up so badly and instead of collectively getting our wits about, we fight shills and gov.

While they are terminating one radioactive monitor after another. While they are terminating exactly those institutions that are supposed to shield us from this or inform us. We've all seen what happened in the Gulf, with corexit and all that jazz. And now, when life-forms are mutating, they're playing the surprised card, when everybody knew it is a mutagen toxic shit.

The same will be with F-shima...by then, people will be poor or on the edge of survival, suffering the so-called economic melt-down and basically working till the day they die. And their minds will be too tired to ever consider they've all let the most sacred thing be destroyed: DNA of all living things.

It's just beyond...everything. Funny thing is that while the mainstream was fighting against "stupid conspiracies and such", here's a mother-of-them-all (depopulation): live, kicking and (looks like) winning... Paid by the people for the people, to destroy the people.

Fukushima is in cold shutdown. Nobody has died or will die, nuclear power is safe, and it has only affect a single tomato and made it bigger.
