Hello GLP, I need your help!
A black ~55 year old co-worker of mine who lives in the City of Rochester (I will call him Sam) was beaten by police WHILE HANDCUFFED AT THE POLICE STATION.
Here is the information I can provide:
Sam Lives with his wife, his 36yo son, and his 34 yo sister-in-law. He and his wife own and pay for the house, the two "kids", combined weight of over 600 lbs, mooch the food and shelter in the house while not paying for it, and using their money to get high. Sam decided he was fed up and told them they must contribute of leave. Sam's wife wasnt of fan about how adamant Sam was to eject the "kids" from the house, and called the cops. The cops arrive and ask Sam if he and his wife own the house. He said yes, and their response was "your under arrest". Sam, a kind hearted man who served in the armed forces obeyed the police officers and went down town. While handcuffed at the station, Sam's wife was talking to police officers and feeding them general "crap" to make him look bad (typical angry wife).

The officers didn't like what she had to say, and proceded to beat handcuffed Sam until he was unconsious, splitting open his lip, kicking him in the face, shredding his t-shirt that was covered in his blood from the multiple police assault, and chipping a tooth.

Sam woke up in the hosital, handcuffed to a bed with two officers gaurding his room. The doctor made a comment to him along the lines of "The police messed your lip up so bad I have no idea how to stitch it up".

Sam was in a wheelchair unable to walk for 2 days, needed stiches INSIDE his lip, on the outside, and under his chin. He missed work for a couple days and is in pain all day especially while working.

Sam is a good man. He obeys the law, and obeys cops' orders, even when they are being bullies.

I didn't type this up to cause mayhem and anger, but rather get suggestions on what I should do to help Sam. Currently I plan to call the police station he was brought to, record the call, and ask them in what circumstances they are permitted to beat a handcuffed man in custody until he is knocked out.

This case infuriated me, especially since I work with the victim and know that he wouldn't do ANYTHING that would justify a beat down.

Worst part of all he asked what he is getting charged with that made him deserve this beat down. He was charged with "Harrasment" and was forced to sign (while in a wheelchair) a piece a paper that forbid him from going back TO HIS OWN HOUSE, where all his clothes, food, work gear etc are) for 30 days!


What should I do, and what should I suggest for him to do?
