"Because of uncertainties in Andromeda's motion, it has not been possible to determine whether the Milky Way will have a head-on collision or glancing blow with the neighboring galaxy billions of years in the future," NASA officials said in a media alert Friday (May 25). "Hubble's precise observations will settle this question."


Seems to me it is more or less to say how the collision will be head on or a blow not that it will be sooner. However I guess in 2 days we will know.

haha how stupid are you people? if our galaxy 'crashed' into another galaxy, no planets orbits or anything would be changed at all....you morons must think a galaxy is like as big as a car.....two galaxys would pass right through one another...any gravitational changes would be too broad and wouldnt affect star systems, just maybe the position of the mother star....

Why all the concern if this scenario won't occur for 2+ billion years? They didn't see the NEO's that are in our vicinity today until yesterday....I think they have their priorities out of whack.

Even if it does collide. It would be millions, if not billions of years from now.

I believe that that our solar system is a part of a dwarf system not a part of the Milky Way and is even now being cannibalized by the Milky Way.
