It is anybody's guess whether this may be the event to cause a complete disaster at Fukushima, but there is panic building in Tokyo already. Seeing as all the people from Japan are calling these posts retarded I will agree with them.REAL FACTS or STFU No, and there is no proof that the typhoon will even cross Tokyo or Fukushima. Right now, this is based on models, and we all know how tropical storm models change as a storm progresses. What we do not know is how well the damaged containment vessels and spent fuel ponds will hold up under a tropical storm. If you have any proof that they will be fine, post it here. Real facts. "Seeing as all the people from Japan are calling these posts retarded I will agree with them." I didn't see those posts. Where are they? I Skyped with some friends living in Tokyo this morning who alerted me to this, and they say there is a lot of stress right now regarding Guchol - not only because of what will happen in Tokyo with a direct hit, but also because of the uncertainty of what might happen at Fukushima. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 3798339 Hmm...a shill paid to post typhoon warnings. That's a new one. Perhaps you could address what I posted to you? But then, when anyone at GLP is at a loss for words and loses a debate here, they do usually resort to shill-calling. Never mind. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 17547458 Thailand 06/15/2012 10:20 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Typhoon Guchol is forecast to strike Japan at about 18:00 GMT on 19 June.Data supplied by the US Navy and Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Center suggest that the point of landfallwill benear34.0 N,137.1 E.Guchol is expected to bring 1-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around120 km/h (74 mph).Wind gusts in the area may be considerably higher. According to the Saffir-Simpson damage scale the potential property damage and flooding from a storm of Guchol's strength (category 1) at landfall includes: Storm surge generally 1.2-1.5 metres (4-5 feet) above normal. No real damage to building structures. Damage primarily to unanchored mobile homes, shrubbery, and trees. Some damage to poorly constructed signs. Some coastal road flooding and minor pier damage. There is also the potential for flooding further inland due to heavy rain. |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 17547458 Thailand 06/15/2012 10:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Add tropical storm level rainfall to this and then what happens? 15 June 2012 Nuclear engineer identifies ‘weakest link’ at Unit No. 4 — “Potential catastrophic drain down” of fuel pool (PHOTOS) During a review of events concerning the status of Fukushima Unit 4, nuclear engineer Chris Harris identified the “weakest link” which may initiate a spent fuel pool draindown event. A major portion of the water in the Fukushima Unit 4 Spent Fuel Pool remains over the Fuel because of the, “Refueling Bulkhead and Bellows” Seal (see drawing above). Although this component has received little attention, its integrity is vital to maintaining Spent Fuel Pool Level. This is because in the current configuration (Refueling Mode) of Unit 4 and the known problem of leaking Refueling Slide Gates, the Drain Down of the Spent Fuel Pool could occur via Failure of the “Refueling Bulkhead and Bellows”.
