Anonymous Coward User ID: 899040 United States 06/30/2012 06:32 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Last October we had a snowstorm here in the Poconos. Power was out for over a week for some people. We had no power for 4 days but fortunately I have partial solar in my home. Ironically the power was out but the cable was still on, so I had internet, some lights and working outlets to charge stuff. At night the battery bank would start to run low so we only used power for the fridge and a couple of lights and used the fireplace for heat in the familyroom where we bunked. I live on a lake out in the woods so we were low on the list to get restored. What they did is restore the power to higher population areas first...then moved out to the lesser populated areas. The gas stations will soon be up as will the cell towers. Some have plain battery some have solar battery back up. But from what I'm hearing there are over 2 million people in the mid-atlantic area with no power so it could be a few days before stuff gets back to normal. |

I at least hope she has enough meds to see her through (providing that she needs them). But on another note NYC might be next for the power outage: [link to www.ny1.com] |

There were reports of trampolines entangled in power lines, car ports being tossed into the air, and tons of fires due to lightning strikes. Anyways, hope all turns out well for the residents of WV, VA, and MD where the storms hit hardest! |

Quoting: Starry eyes I'm in a panic. She has 3 days worth of food... They probably dont have good battery/gen back-up for the pumps, your mom should start boiling some drinking water like today. Water is first thing she should take care of! Yes, I told her to do that. I also told her she needs to store her cold food in ice water mixed with salt and keep in the fridge. Thankfully, she has a gas stove. I heard there have been people freaking out at the local CVS and gas stations. depends on if her gas is pumped to her stove with electricity or not. |

Even though a lot of jokes are made about them, they are very resilient and resourceful in most cases. Hell, most know how to "live off the land" in worst case scenarios (some do it just by choice alone)! So I wouldn't worry much!! Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1230093 I grew up there and most of these folks don't need much help to survive. Most of them are used to hard times all the time. |

She was born there, but moved away as a baby and just moved back a couple years ago. She has lived in the city most of her life. Either way, me and my siblings will be checking on her quite frequently. She is in her 40's, so she could fend for herself, but I'm keeping close watch. if she's in her 40's she should be wiser than you. |
