I'm a flesh computer and I'm dumb to start with. Computers can only add. Subtracting is an illusion by the Illuminati. It's a conspiracy to add negative integers. Multiplication too. It adds the same integer the number of times 'requested'. Sounds like someone's trying to mind control me... Division is subtraction of fractions???... BLASPHEMY!

Sorry I had to write it as a story...

Did anyone have a problem learning basic math without having it done as addition? I learned subtraction and multiplication and division through whatever tedious methods are currently being used, but looking back on it, I feel like if someone had just explained addition and subtraction and multiplication using addition, and division like THE POST then I would be able to do division in my head (which really was a problem in my college career... always had to write out long division or kept stuff as fractions <<easier and more accurate imo)

that insight should have been obvious...

but math is almost never taught properly in schools. kids just learn it by rote (eg. multiplication tables, ...).

any math study should start with basic number theory and logic (and not limited to formal logic); then geometry (and not limited to euclidian geometry), then everything else.

algebra is usefull as a tool, but it actually is a very complicated construct that relies on 'agreed foundations'.
