Thousands of dead fish wash ashore in Butts County

Thousands of dead fish have washed up on the shores of a lake in Butts County.

Georgia Department of Natural Resources officials estimate around 2,300 carp, bass and catfish have died in South River in Butts County.

Hundreds of fish killed in Upstate lake

ANDERSON COUNTY, S.C. -

Hundreds of fish are floating dead in an Upstate lake, but the cause was not a mysterious chemical or some other pollutant.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control says low water levels combined with heat has led to a lack of oxygen in the cove on Lake Hartwell near the Fair Play area.

About 500 fish have died.

Thousands of dead fish found in Dexter

Thousands of dead fish turned up over the past couple of days at Dexter City Lake. It's an important image for residents like Dean Smith.

"My son fished over there when he was small," said Smith.

He knows the importance of the community pond because he has lived in Dexter, Missouri his whole life.

"There's people that come there everyday and fish," said Smith.

But right now, signs say no fishing. That's because thousands of fish are dead and officials blame our triple digit weather.

Yep, hot liquid holds much less oxygen. I know this from watching my bubble chamber going in reverse as I let my homebrew beer wort cool down.

If I were to introduce fish, say, guppies, into my homebrewed wort at 100 degrees, as opposed to 75 degrees, they would definitely be gasping for O2 at the surface.

AZ officials investigating fish die-off on Salt River

PHOENIX (CBS5) -

Biologists are investigating a fish die-off that happened on the Salt River upstream of Roosevelt Lake.

The Arizona Game and Fish Department said they began receiving reports of dead fish on Wednesday and went to the area Thursday morning to find out what happened.......number of dead fish estimated anywhere from hundreds to thousands.

Sad, we've had large fish kills in the past here in Texas due to golden algea bloom. I'm sure there will be many more as hot as the midwest is this year.

At first the Bitz's didn't think much of it, just a few dead fish along the shore. But then shortly after that, hundreds of them started popping up along the banks.

"The Game and Fish told us there could be 300-400 within every mile," says Bitz.

And the fish that are dying aren't small. They are mostly northerns about 14 to 15 pounds.

well with that many fish floating dead and this is just one of several sites on this one day...adding this to a long list of animal die offs...huge issues with most crops in the US...most likely to sky rocket food cost here in the US.
