The cop would have been cool if they didn't act like dicks...they pulled out a camera and was giving him shit...no need for that.

Yeah because the cop asked for id which he didn't need to do. Plus they were detained not for the camera but for impending the flow.
 Quoting: FancyPants

Dancing in public is annoying, cops have a federal right to ask for ID due to immigration and issues of outstanding warrants...the camera and them acting like assholes is what drove him to be an asshole right back...if they played nice so would he...these situations work both ways...

I thought they can only ask if they suspect you of breaking the law?

of course that is true. some people just want and expect to live in a police state. they like it I guess. Makes them feel safe.

 Quoting: BRIEF

First, annoying and illegal are two very seperate concepts.
Second, don't post your BS stance as fact, just because you think they have the authority to do so doesn't make it so. It's morans like you that assume police have absolute power that gives them absolute power. You relenquish authority over yourself without even knowing it, this is why lawyers are thrust at us so readily, the law is a minefield and cops understand it about the same as the average Joe.

Cops can only compel you for ID if you are suspected of a crime.
I know of no statue in NYC that outlaws dancing in public, however.
From my reading, it sounds like the officer was just attempting to do his job as protector of the citizens by keeping them from getting swept away 'in the moment' and falling off the platform. This has been known to happen far to often, hence the seemingly draconian step of not wanting them to be merry actually having a sincere reason.

The whole thing looks to have flipped when the citizens became belligerent, which would rile up any of us, especially if we are used to a certain level of 'respect'

All in all, looks like a wash to me. The officer involved did nothing overtly wrong and the case should be dismissed post haste. Perhaps with a stipulation that the city compensate the suitors for legal fees and nothing more.

Columbus Circle station is rarely empty, unless it was 3 or so in the morning during the week. In which case, they wouldn't have just seen a show a Lincoln Center. If that was the case, the musician wouldn't be there either. They are probably two troublemakers who thought they could do whatever they want wherever they want, and when told to stop, they didn't. I would bet, by the sound of it, they are two annoying NY liberals.

Columbus Circle is crowded most times, including midnight. Maybe not like rush hour, but still enough people. Too many people have been accidentally or intentionally flung off the platform on to the tracks. Dancing (maybe with a drink or two in them) is a dangerous thing to do inches away from the tracks. There are musicians playing in the train station all the time. That's not an invitation to dance. Actually, the MTA has a program for musicians to play in stations and on platforms. I've seen hundreds of musicians on platforms for years and have never seen anyone dancing.

Listen you twat, that is your opinion. That is not LAW. Neither is it law or legal for an officer to do what those cunts did. They are not to be ruled by emotion they are to be ruled by law, and if they can't do it then they are terrible cops, and should be fired. PERIOD.

You dumbass, are on the team of idiot cops that do not know the fucking law. How much more pointless can you get?

Those cops must've been jealous at the couple for being so free, while they had to work for shitty pay at the same time the couple was dancing in clothes cops have to work a year to afford.

There are also other places to let people know you're a goddamned retard...so why do YOU insist on doing it here? Does it have something to do with freedom? The freedom to let people know you're a goddamned retard?

You aren't free to recklessly swing and twirl around hitting people and cause disorder...go home and twirl

Recklessly swing and twirl and hitting people?

Are you reading from the inside of your own ass again? Or did you miss the part where the cops dropped the charges(which means the charges were propped up), the couple is suing(which means the cops were WRONG) and the fact that there weren't many people at the station at that moment?

I wouldn't imagine a dentist going around dancing, knocking and hitting into people, as there is some form of intelligence present in their heads, unlike people like yourself.

Now go fuck yourself you fake ass American. You want to nuke Iran? Well guess what is also illegal in Iran and gets people arrested? Dancing in public.

You're just an undercover muslim without knowing it, you cunt.

The cop could of just gave them a warning and that be that.

I get it if it was rush hour and close to the tracks, but it was around midnight and there was a musician playing. 1dunno1

The cop would have been cool if they didn't act like dicks...they pulled out a camera and was giving him shit...no need for that.
 Quoting: BRIEF

Yeah because the cop asked for id which he didn't need to do. Plus they were detained not for the camera but for impending the flow.
 Quoting: FancyPants

Dancing in public is annoying, cops have a federal right to ask for ID due to immigration and issues of outstanding warrants...the camera and them acting like assholes is what drove him to be an asshole right back...if they played nice so would he...these situations work both ways...

Change your sig to read, MOVE TO IRAN NOW! This is how people there are treated, and you want to treat people the same way in your land of the free??
