UPDATE I have seen the threads on here about how fucked up Facebook is, and how it is used to gather your info. Although I do not post there, I did keep my Facebook account due to the fact that I have 5 younger brothers and sisters who all have kids. I live out of state and use Facebook to get updates on them and pictures. Other than the occasional comment concerning how cute my nephews are, I dont post. I also have my privacy settings set so that only my friends can see my info, and only accept friends who I know and trust. Well, as some people on here know I am a criminal defense attorney. I had to testify as a witness today regarding a trial that I did in 2008. Well, long story short, despite the fact that my settings are on private, the District Attorney's Office gave me a copy of my Facebook page. There were no posts that were a problem, as I don’t post. However, when you set up your account it asks you to fill in different categories, ie: interests, music, hobbies. Under the "about me" section, I wrote, criminal lawyer fighting against fascism and oppression. Well, the Government had this info, and tried to use it to suggest I was somehow against the Government. Really fucked up. Don’t know how they accessed this info. Needless to say, I just canceled my Facebook account. I suggest u all do the same. Just to let you all know. My boss and I have started the procedures to figutre out how they got my private info. UPDATE Best idea is to use a fake account if you want to play on FB. I write under a variety of pen names and each one has its own authentic-looking FB account dating back to 2008 or so. I used one of these to troll marxists on the Occupy groups quite successfully. Ended up getting quite a few of the marxists in question banned too, since their ideology relies upon violent revolution, which is a no-no in FB world. Push them hard enough and they'll start talking about HOW they'll unite the workers and take out the Bourgeoisie Good times.

It's worth not being on Facebook and eliminating your online 'presence" as much as possible (still comment though). Using a "fake" account not even, just don't use it. Basically the negatives are now outrunning the positives. Due to legal and social reputations, it makes no sense. There is no reason you should be on Facebook anymore. It has become an oppressive version of MySpace and the Dick measuring trend has reached a peak. Now everyone acknowledges how annoying Facebook really is, it's not "weird" not to be in Facebook, that was 2011. It's now just ridiculous. After a crash, unless you are in marketing or a public persona that npbenefits from the presence, it just makes no sense to be on something like Facebook. It just calls for predators which will only increase going forward (both criminals and from the state....)

Everything you see, send and say is accessible or cached somewhere. In other words, there's no Internet equivalent to covering your mouth and whispering to one person. Those little checkboxes that say "keep my things private" are a facade to make you feel secure. If someone wants access, they'll get it! The best practice is: don't post anything you wouldn't want your boss, a judge or your mother to see.

It may not be a burden now because you have a nice photo book but unless it's a curated masterpiece that is mostly frozen in time, the burden is just going to escalate as time goes on.
