I’m sorry OP but you are way off base. Class warfare serves no purpose and the hate, fear, greed, and envy that career politicians perpetuate with political sound bites that become the battle cry of the ignorant is spinning this country into a downward spiral that will completely destroy the middle class. Make no mistake, politicians only want 2 classes of people: The ruling class (the select few that control all the wealth and power) and everybody else in the gutter begging to serve them.

In order to have a proper discussion you need to disregard the sound bites and focus on the specific topic. As Bluebird posted, the topic is federal income taxes, not state income tax, sales tax, or property tax. In this regard some simple facts need to be highlighted. The facts are that they they are talking about personal income taxes. Neither party has any intention of taxing the “wealthy”, 250k is not “wealthy”, if they wanted to tax the “wealthy” they would be talking about multimillions or billions. All those “evil” corporations out there that everybody is so spitting angry about are “C” corps. When you are talking about those corporations you certainly aren’t talking about 250k. When you are talking about 250k you are talking about the middle class and especially small business owners. Most small businesses are “S” Corps and business income from “S” Corps is taxed as the personal income of the owner/owners. You understand this is their operating income not personal income. Most small business owners that “make 250k a year” can barely feed their families. Putting undue pressure taxing “S” Corps will crush the middle class. There are a billion tax loopholes and tax shelters that will always protect the true wealthy and the large “C” corps from any tax increases that these politicians will ever throw at the American public.

All this is why “tax the rich!” is the perfect sound bite; It gets a lot of miles. The poor love it because they know they aren’t talking about them. The rich love it because they also know they aren’t talking about them. It even sounds great to most of the middle class. That is until they find out they are the people they are talking about. But by that time it’s too late. The poor are happy because they think they are going to get more Obama bucks and the Rich are already laughing their way to the bank shouting “SUCKERS!”

What have you done to stop "special interests and corporations"? It's pretty easy to blame. We send people to Washington who sell us out. We need reform. Problem is, too many people are more worried about American Idol than politics. I'm one person. I vote and I educate myself. I guess if you want to say I sat by then you can, but I don't think I did. I just don't think enough people were involved. I was one of the few when I was your age that knew anything at all about politics.

The fact is many of us started out poor and worked our way through our youth and caught what opportunities we could find along the way.
