Army testing new SPY BLIMP......how stupid are these people? | |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 18732095 United States 08/08/2012 05:14 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I've seen some articles that say a new class of blimps can fly at 100,000 feet. Most countries don't have the tech to do anything to something 100,000 feet up. At that height you'd barely see it. But with a nice camera, I'm sure it could see you just fine. I say this is reasonable technology and not as stupid as you think. |

Over the last year we've had THREE high schools with balloon projects (we donated the helium) and they managed to get that high. Wouldn't take much more to power the damn thing and make it maneuverable and put an IED in it. That's IF it was that high, this one only operates at 20,000. This project is a white elephant if I've ever seen one. "Everybody lies." |

Quoting: Rabid_Wolf That same helium that we are currently running out of on this planet. Brilliant. Hey, I live really close to the Goodyear Blimp base in Pompano Beach. I've seen it flying everyday for the last few weeks. So they don't seem to have a problem with helium. On the other side of the coin, last month our helium supplier raised our fill price for balloon grade helium 263% and then the next week stopped refilling our tanks. Our primary customers were florists. "Everybody lies." |

Don't they realize that a slow (really slow) mover such as this that stands out like a sore thumb... is going to be prey to anybody clever enough to put together about $3000 dollars worth of RC airplane gear (easily obtainable) and an IED? WTF?? They're only even show you this "technology" so that when you see a UFO, they can tell you it's theirs, and that it's this. Same way they want to tell you EVERYTHING you see in the sky is a drone when really, it's fucking not them. They are covering their bases. Everything you see in the sky is not our government. It's only very slightly more sophisticated then telling you it's Chinese lanterns. Use them in Afghanistan? What do you think this is? 2003? Anything they "want to do" in Afghanistan has long been done, what a ridiculous shamble of a story just to show us their bullshit blimps. |

Can be used for a multitude of performance tasks. I don't remember where I read it, but I recall an article estimating that Earth's "nonrenewable" helium supply will be gone in 25-40 years. I guess I hope they perfect Earth-based fusion that mimics the Sun's hydrogen to helium conversion, or else an MRI (amongst other things) will become very expensive. |
