From the book "Salt-A World History" by Mark Kurlansky, Publisher Penguin Books Regarding Cheshire Salt Mines near Liverpool England (1800's to early 1900's.)

[P. 321-324] "The strange sinkholes that had been sporadically appearing in the eighteenth century had become...a regular phenomenon....The brine makers tried to continue blaming the sinkholes on the rock salt miners, ... it became obvious that the location of the sinkholes bore no relation to the locations of mine shafts, and as sinking became more frequent, there were not enough shafts to explain the number of occurrences.

On the other hand there was an exact correlation between the increase in brine production and the increase in sinkholes...By 1880 400 buildings had been destroyed or damaged in Northwich alone."

"The truth was too much brine was being pumped from underneath Cheshire ... as brine was removed, fresh groundwater took its place, and this water would absorb salt until the brine was once again one-fourth salt.

The problem was that if large quantities of freshwater that hungrily absorbed considerable amounts of salt were removed, they were replaced with large quantities of freshwater that hungrily absorbed considerable amounts of salt. Once that started happening, the freshwater began eroding the natural salt pillars that supported the space between the salt rock and the surface. When a pillar collapsed, the earth above it sank.

But even in the nineteenth century, when this process was understood, it was difficult to know whom to blame. The area around a saltworks might remain solid even though the brine it was pumping was causing the earth to collapse four miles away. Two or three other saltworks, though closer to the hole than the culprit, might have caused no damage at all." [The book also has a bit of info on nuclear waste storage in salt domes on pg. 439] "

I particularly love how they have just overlooked how many times the Op or multiple Ops on this thread has said a certain post would be their last post, or the day for hope is gone, or that yesterday was the day it would all happen, or that nothing can be done now, and on and on ad nauseum, and they just keep falling for this assholes game. Hell, not falling for it. DROOLING over it.

And ANY facts presented by reputable sources are rejected or ignored.

Hey, soon they will be calling me a shill....whatever that is, too. Someone already came very close by calling a post of mine junk.

True, but Dow isn't the only gas/oil/brine industry around here. Everyone likes to point to Dow because of their deeper pockets.

Also on the dome is:

Occidental
Chevron
Crosstex
Texas Brine
Pontchartrain
KDSPromix

The only thing I am feeding you is information that can be verified with the links I give. Versus so many that state their opinion as fact, such as Webcams at the sinkhole site are prohibited. If you are going to say something with such force, then cough up the proof. And If you are saying I am Jasto, nice try, but you are wrong. Jasto posted mis information regarding the Assumption Blog having discussion forums. I corrected that. One of you called that post "junk".Makeup your mind, would ya?

Patassa - did I read you right, that you are sitting 3000 ft from the sinkhole??? If so, why are you not providing some video or still pics, some "Johnny-on-the-spot" info instead of acting like a jerk to those of us who are here JUST BECAUSE WE ARE CONCERNED ABOUT THE BAYOU AND THE FOLKS THERE???

This old world is becoming a crapier place daily, in part because of people like you who never learned civility! And as noted to me by someone else yesterday, it seems to be getting worse every day. I realize the anonimity of the internet allows for freedom of nastiness that face-to-face seems to keep in check. After seeing the shill attack yesterday, I'm not much inclined to put up with your nonsense either. It's just a milder version, but nastiness none-the-less. And for no good reason that I can tell.

Well, shit! If this is true, why are we relying on ANY of these *news* links? We have a front row seat commentator who LIVES 3000 feet from the sinkhole and hasn't spoken up or posted local pictures? I have wondered for a month why there were NO LOCAL people on this thread, and wah-lah, here you are!

Get on it, please. Please post your pics and your first hand account of what YOU see taking place!
Amen....we are soooooooooooo glad you are here and finally spoke up! Woot!

Still pictures or videos of what? Do you think they are allowing just anyone to go near that sinkhole? There is nothing else to GET pictures or video of. I have pics of the command center. I have pics of the helicopters above me. What would posting those do?

Otherwise, besides the command center, the seismic monitors all over the place, and new activity with the geoprobes/vent wells, life seems normal here....just void of 90% of the residents.

Sorry if you think I am being nasty, but my post was attacked first, and again, if one doesn't have proof to back up what they say, then they need to admit it is only their opinion, and not state it as fact.

People ARE reading all of this shit and are truly more afraid because of it. Why would you NOT expect me to get upset to see a video or text posted that the sinkhole has completely collapsed, or that the military has invaded our town? Look at the "old confused" poster from Alabama. Do you think he/she would be half as scared as they are if some of this crap wasn't posted without proof?

I understand where poster Jasto is coming from, and I also felt that way when I first started reading. Then I decided to just ignore it and post facts with links on my own thread. No one is interested in facts though, -not enough doom gloom, obviously, and the more I read, the more absolutely ridiculous things I see posted, and I will correct them when I see them posted.

Re: Don't make ASSUMPTIONS; try to Understand.

Please post your pics and your first hand account of what YOU see taking place!Amen....we are soooooooooooo glad you are here and finally spoke up! Woot!

That is exactly what I have been doing. Sorry you've missed my posts. I stated right off I was a local, too.

that silly sinkhole is NOT the "situation", moron.

And exactly how are you contributing to this thread again, ain'tnogod?

You've made it a point to try to belittle both posters and the issue itself at every turn. After reading this thread since day one/page one, I'm perfectly aware of what this 'situation' encompasses.

Back off and let those actually interested or concerned read and discuss in peace.

Ditto that. I am the one that is/will be most affected by what is happening, and if you don't care to know the truth, then don't read my posts.

Thanks AC, that gives a clearer visual on the scope of the situation.

You are correct, people do skip over his posts - because he is disparaging to many and divisive to this thread.

There are many ways to troll, and throwing out bits of fact here and there is straight out of Shill Class 101...along with his name calling, numerous nonsensical posts and self-initiated pissing matches.

OH? So now you are going to just sit there and attack all ACs?
chuckle
Seriously though... pics of whatever (choppers or as close as you can get) would probably help you out here... although if I were you, I wouldn't give a shit about pleasing other people. Cuz I'm just an ass like that. :)

Nope, only responding to those attacking me ( or posting blatantly incorrect information). I could find any pic I wanted on the net, post it and say I took it right? I don't go out of my way to piss people off, but no, I won't go out and take pics and post them so the very next person can then ask how do they know I actually took the pic.

If I did care enough, I'd tell you to think of something to grab a pic of, with a way to prove I took it, and post it. Not even sure an unpaid account can post a pic here.

Re: Don't make ASSUMPTIONS; try to Understand.
old and scared from Alabama here...I'm a "she" by the way.

I began following the sinkhole from when I first heard of it, somewhere other than this site. I was alarmed then because I was aware of the lies we were told regarding the DWH incident and believed there was more to this sinkhole situation because I couldn't find any information on it other than Dutchsinse, ENENews, BayouBuzz, etc. No mention of it in the MSM. That scared me more.

I searched several site as many days as I could and found this site by chance. Does it scare me...yes, but the whole thing scares me. Would I be less afraid if I hadn't come here...probably not. When the government hides information for citizens...that scares me...really really scares me.

I've discovered good and bad information here, as well as many other places. I wish the fighting would stop here but the information from ALL sites scare me...none more than any other. I'm still searching for the truth in it all.
