Quoting: Nika I've been smoking for 20 yrs and I don't want to anymore. I hate being a smoker. I don't even enjoy them anymore. But yet, I always light up. Please, if you have great advice on quitting...I'm desperate. But not desperate enough to try that Chantix or whatever the prescription is called. I've heard terrible things about it. Many thanks in advance. welcome to the club |

Prior to that, I spent 5 years, and three serious attempts, to stop smoking. Third time was the charm, as our American friends say. But, I did it with a combination of herbal and bicarbonate tablets. |

I don't know how he did it but he just quit. We spent a small fortune on Werther's but it worked for him. Me on the other hand...I've tried to quit so many different ways and I just haven't been able to do it yet. I say yet because I will continue to try and I will be successful someday. Good Luck OP! |

I have not wanted a real cigarette at all. I don't cough anymore and feel a lot healthier. I also feel I could give these up without it being too hard and not want to ever smoke a real cigarette again. It's like a miracle. Try them! |

Many thanks in advance. I was able to quit cold turkey in middle of day with three packs left. I was using liquid minerals for about a month before. and afterwards I find out that with gold you can stop being addicted to things. had no clue it helps. but I am proof. [link to www.pureformulas.com] this is what I used. it has gold in it. [link to www.utopiasilver.com] and of course I cant find hardly any articles on gold getting rid of addictions now. doesnt matter what brand you use. just make sure its liquid and has gold in it. :D and also say you are going to quit. not try to quit. the mind will eventually believe what you say and make it true. I did smoke for longer than you. :D |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 21008556 United States 09/01/2012 08:44 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | twice. by the grace of God. here is what has worked in my experience. 1.) We admitted we were powerless over our addiction (one is too many, a thousand never enough. even entertaining the temptation to smoke will lead to compulsion [e.g. f*** it]. We must be relieved of the obsession to smoke or we will smoke, this is one aspect of our powerlessness.) if we are powerless over it (it is more powerful then us), and we can admit it, then we realize we need help. 2.) We came to believe that a power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity. (don't think it is insane to smoke? think harder) This step is about opening our mind to new possibilities, and new realities-hope, faith, and open mindedness. If you always do what you always done, you'll always get what you always got. In order to leave behind the old ways of smoking you must imagine a new life withouT cigarettes. This will be difficult at first, but take it one day/hour/minute at a time. Imagine the freedom of the new life you will experience without being aslave to addiction! Imagine the money you'll save. Imagine the healthy new habits you will replace your old lack of care for self with. 3.) We made a decision to turn our will over to the care of God as we understood Him. This will be a difficult step for many but don't let the word God turn you off from it. If you have allowed yourself the freedom to come to believe that you can quit, that you can be relieved from your obsession, and if you really want to quit, what have you got to lose? Give it a try, and ask for help not to smoke. At the end of the day don't forget to say 'thanks!' Lastly aversive association helps. Keep a rubber band around your wrist and snap it every time you catch yourself thinking of cigarettes. Also say a quick prayer asking your 'Higher Power' to take away the temptation. You'd be amazed. What's your name? |

It is physical for 72 hours and then psychological after that. Change patterns. Quoting: PatrikC325 The psychological part is the killer. For many years, I was fantasizing a cig in my right hand, after breakfast. Now, a cig would make me puke. Just the smell of it. Clean, for over 14 years. |

Many thanks in advance. I'm with you OP. Have been a smoker for about 25 years and don't want to do it anymore either but still do. I only "enjoy" it when I'm drinking but still smoke regularly when not drinking... Have also heard bad things about the prescription aids and I even have e-cigs but still smoke! Ridiculous I think part of me doesn't want to give it up because I know many who have and gained weight and been unable to lose it later. Shallow I know, but at 38 the metabolism starts to slow down and weight gain is not something I'm willing to deal with! Good luck to you |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 21656968 United States 09/01/2012 08:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Focus on the long game and long gains. I picked a picture of a deseased lung for my desktop. You have to have a list of reasons. Such that when that hankering comes around you can quickly remind yourself why you want to quit. The top of my list was "MONEY". Not that money is god, but money is a token exchange. The tokens help you get stuff you need and stuff you want. The idea of throwing many tokens away on something that didn't benifit me in the long run seemed pointless. packs of ciggies are going toward 10 dollars now. How much can be achieved with that money over time? The list will help you. Other great reasons for quiting smoking. Easier Breathing. Better Health. Lessened dependancy on the system. I also use Nic gum, but not as recomended. cold turkey is great, but i kept that gum around when it got too much. That little 2-4 dose of nikky made all the demons stop dancing. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 22504196 Canada 09/01/2012 08:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I was a heavy smoker for 22 years and quit cold turkey 23 years ago. I tried to quit many times and failed but this is how I did. I quit with my boyfriend at the time. We go ahold of a pound or so of "skunk bunk" the cuttings left behind after the snippers trim bud for growers. We soaked it in rum for a couple of weeks and then dried it out to cure it and get rid of the green taste. Then we used a cigarette rolling machine that stuffed premade tubes with filters et voila - cigarettes. Everytime we craved a cigarette or were in a situation where would normally be tempted to smoke one, we smoked one of those instead. After six weeks, the nicotine withdrawl was pretty much complete and we phased the bogus cigarettes out. Still like to smoke joints though. With a rolled up cardboard filter in them. My boyfriend started smoking again after we split up. |
