Are IR flashlights and road flares effective thermal countermeasures against drones? | |

The proper countermeasure for gummint drones is control of the gummint and control of the money they get to spy on the citizens while ignoring the wets, not some whizbang gimmic that can be countermeasured |

I can't any information on these. They could come in useful for home defense or hunting, not just drones. No mature adult of any stature imagines they can shoot down a military drone with a magic spidey net from a fowling piece. one may well ask if there is a 12bore heliocoptor, or a 12 bore velicipede or velociraptor or somesuch, the clear nonsense of the question boggles the mind. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11132818 United States 09/06/2012 01:06 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | road flares burn at 3,000 degrees, Humans are 198 degrees. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1072087 You will stick out like a sore thumb! specifically what you would be attempting to achieve is an overload of the sensor, often called 'blooming' so that the area affected is obscured to some degree. To affect sensors on gov.mil equiptment you may need to place that flare on top of 25 or so pounds of high explosive and it should work for up to 10 seconds after the initial explosion. pretty much not much a civilian can do against an mil drone but to stay in the sewers under a foot or more of soil. now if you are talking about smaller portable targeting scopes, then IR lazer countermeasures or IR strobes may be able to interfere with the ABC circuitry and keep you from collecting a bullet, but dont count on it to work more than once |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 11132818 United States 09/06/2012 01:21 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | the real question is this: "what gimmick can I imagine to fool a despotic government bent on destroying me and my nation for it's own profit, so I dont have to do anything strenuous or take any risks?" That's the real question, innit, how to survive evil while doing nowt to prevent any damn thing. dont you think that those that imagined systems to kill your from a few thousand meters altitude would have made sure that the ignorant and lazy NASCARoids would not simply wave their beer cans and bongs and hide safely behind them? The cure is PREVENTION, that's the only thing that works every time |

Any truth to this or is it BS? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1205298 [link to www.blacklistednews.com] from your link: "Hiding one’s heat signature is difficult, but not impossible. The key, as David learned through military sniper training manuals and combat analysis, was to match his IR signature with that of his surrounding as much as possible. He fashioned a hooded cloak using a material that would block much of his initial warmth, then lined the inside of it with emergency space blanket material, which reflects back around 90% body heat. The cloak design worked well because he could easily take down the hood and unwrap himself when not in immediate danger, allowing the material to cool as he walked. Then David attached local vegetation to the material to help match its IR Emissivity to the surrounding foliage. This combination reduced his thermal signature drastically. Overhead drones could not identify him clearly as a human, if they were able to see him at all. Ground forces were a greater threat, but the element of surprise was still possible for the insurgents with cloaks." |

So long as the RC is in your sight you can fly it a considerable distance and altitude. You'd need a live feed wireless camera on it so you could actually hit the drone, I imagine. |
