Maaaan, there are a lot of lyers here. I hope you all know, that you're taking away souls from the God you claim to serve. Smh Especially when you self proclaimed "Christians" are on here cursing. You're the reasons why people don't believe. By their fruits, by their fruits.

Matthew 5

The Beatitudes

1And seeing the multitudes, He went up on a mountain, and when He was seated His disciples came to Him. 2Then He opened His mouth and taught them, saying:

3"Blessed are the poor in spirit,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
4Blessed are those who mourn,
For they shall be comforted.
5Blessed are the meek,
For they shall inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
For they shall be filled.
7Blessed are the merciful,
For they shall obtain mercy.
8Blessed are the pure in heart,
For they shall see God.
9Blessed are the peacemakers,
For they shall be called sons of God.
10Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness' sake,
For theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
11"Blessed are you when they revile and persecute you, and say all kinds of evil against you falsely for My sake. 12Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for great is your reward in heaven, for so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

Re: Sinner's Prayer and how to be saved
People are saved only by the Grace of God. Period.

OP, your title suggests that people can somehow do this or that to save themselves, and it's simply not true.

Faith is shown by following God's Commandments daily. But no one can do this or that and think that they can save themselves.

Lord Yeshua - Jesus - was given the Bema Seat, the Judgment Seat of Christ, by His Heavenly Father, the God of Israel, the Lord of Hosts, the One True Living God.

And Only Lord Yeshua can deem who is saved.

Once more - and please remember this..

People are saved only by the Grace of God. Period.

Acts explains the best
29 The jailer called for lights, rushed in and fell trembling before Paul and Silas. 30 He then brought them out and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”

31 They replied, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household.” 32 Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house. 33 At that hour of the night the jailer took them and washed their wounds; then immediately he and all his household were baptized. 34 The jailer brought them into his house and set a meal before them; he was filled with joy because he had come to believe in God—he and his whole household.
 Quoting: Goofy for God

Acts was written by LUKE who never met Jesus, and reported hearsay, and this isn't even a good translation. The Lord Jesus as MIchael, made his teaching to the fallen angels that they were on their last chance here to repent their errors in the Lucifer Rebellion. That has been take totally this wrong way that every one must follow an believe in an accept the lord Jesus as their savior. That is not so. You are saved by your choice to pursue eternity and not anything else. Those that reject eternal life are simply uncreated. Its that simple.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23356301

That is NOT true. Luke was the son of the Mother whose home the disciples met most often with Christ. Luke followed Christ around wherever he went...Luke was an eye witness to all the works of Christ, he was right there with him wherever he went.

Later, Luke became a medical doctor and wrote most of the New Testament, Paul was struck down by Christ on the road to Damascus, he was about to murder all Christians there in Syria; when Christ struck him down, he blinded Paul...Luke wrote the scripture, Paul recited, because Paul could not see.....

you folks who post false garbage will be held accountable for what you lie about concerning the written word.....you'd be better off hanging a millstone around your neck and drowning yourself; rather than face what is in store for you for lying about the WORD.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 23975430

Eye fucked up witnesses and medical doctors in those days - or in any other days. Lukewarm fuck ups. So Luke wrote the other account of the death of Judas in the acts of the apostles, right?

Nothing is free in this world, and certainly not a millstone.

Re: Sinner's Prayer and how to be saved
Well, thank you for your reply but that didn't answer my question. I find that I can't love a God who judges unfairly. If had been born in another country, you might be a Buddhist, a Muslim, a Hindu, etc., today. You would be following what you had been taught. They think their religion is the one true religion as well. All religions think they are the one true religion.

I asked you how you could actually LOVE a God who torments people forever. Could you torment someone forever? If not, how do you love this God who torments people for the single reason that they don't believe in Jesus? How can you trust a God like this? Are your morals greater or higher than God's are? Wouldn't a God who torments people forever be more like Hitler or a demon than a God?

You are approaching this on an intellectual human level.......as if this were some type of debate at school.

Then based on the human arguments for each side....you make a decision.

This is not how it works with God.....and meaningless.

I guarantee that if He showed up at your house and showed you that you were lost and perishing.......you would be on your knees very quickly......and very thankful that He provided an escape for you from His wrath.

At such a time.....you would drop your intellectualization......about how unfair it is for so many people of the world.

You would only be concerned about your own situation.....and your eternal destiny.

It is all a supernatural event......when a person is born of the Spirit.

Christ: "No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him."
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24214196

You are absolutely wrong about this. I would never love or bow down to a creature who sends any human to a place of suffering that lasts forever. Of course, I don't believe in God/Jesus/Holy Spirit/Bible so I don't think it really matters what people think. I happen to know that there is no one up there. I believe scientists (93% of which are atheists) and they are sure that there is no God. Why should I believe a bunch of pathetic dweebs who are so selfish that they don't even care about the eternal destiny of their human brothers and sisters?

You say I would only be concerned about my own situation and my own eternal destiny? Clearly, you do not know me. I would spit in the face of any heathen barbaric primitive God who needed a blood sacrifice of an innocent animal or person so that I could be forgiven. It is so typical that the creature you worship made David's baby suffer for days before he killed him because of David's sin with Bathsheba. That is the way all pagan Gods operate.

You only think of yourself and your own salvation so you are scared to death of questions. You don't really believe in God or love Jesus, you only love that empty promise of eternal life and that castle you think is waiting for you in heaven. Your love for God/Jesus is quite conditional. That is not real love and never has been. You simply need to grow up and stop fantasizing about the life you think you should have. Enjoy the life you do have because this is the only life you ever will have.

If you were Christened as a Catholic, but left for a non-denominational church - is it blasphemous to be baptized by immersion?

Question, because I met someone who experienced this. Was she baptized once or twice?

The belief that saves is actually a very strong belief......not just mere intellectual assent.

You are believing in Him......placing your full trust in Him.....and following Him.

Jesus: "Deny yourself, take up the cross, and follow Me."

Repentance always accompanies saving faith.

Christ: "The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel." (Mark 1: 15)

Christ: "Thus it is written, and thus it was necessary for the Christ to suffer and to rise from the dead the third day, and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations..." (Luke 24: 46-47)

"Now I rejoice, not that you were made sorry, but that your sorrow led to repentance. For you were made sorry in a godly manner, that you might suffer loss from us in nothing.

"For godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, not to be regretted; but the sorrow of the world produces death."

2 Cor. 7: 9-10

As you are turning away from your previous life of sin and giving your life to Christ.....God sees this. He examines a person's heart and mind. Those genuine in their faith are immediately indwelt by the Holy Spirit and connected with God. The indwelling Spirit then helps a person to grow in the Lord.

At that time you are declared just.....justified.....by God......declared "not guilty"......based on what Christ did on the cross. You are clothed in His righteousness......and seen as white by the Father.

God's grace is upon you.......unmerited favor.

Although I am nothing but a wretched sinner....with probably a million sins.....deserving of nothing but God's punishment.......I am declared "Not Guilty." Christ has already taken the punishment for me.....and I am seen as white.

Praise God for His mercy.

"Personal Prayer Of Salvation"

O Lord, I know that You are waiting here,
For me to let You come into my life.
I know that You are knocking on the door,
And now I pray that You will enter in.
* * *
I pray that You will come into my life,
As Lord and Saviour, ruling over me.
I know that You are truly Son of God,
I know that You have risen from the dead,
I know that only You can save my soul.
I need Your guidance, and I need Your love;
I want to follow everywhere You lead.
I truly do repent of all my sins;
I feel remorse for evil I have done;
I know that only You can make me clean.
I turn my back on sin and look to You.
I am forgiving all who did me harm,
As You are now forgiving all my sins.
And now as I commit myself to You,
I pray that You commit Yourself to me.
I pray that You will take me as I am,
And draw me, step-by-step, into Your arms.
In Jesus' holy name I pray, Amen

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24214196

Why? Why are declared not guilty if you a wretched sinner? Is it because you believe that some man died for you. Sorry, but that is just plain selfish.

Let me ask you a question. You say you love Jesus. I think that is a lie. What if you were asked to love Jesus because he taught good things, he taught you to love your enemies and give to the poor. But what if this was the one and only reason you had to love Jesus, you had to love him only because he taught you good lessons.

Now, imagine that you were told that when you died you would go nowhere. You would die and cease to exist. You would not go to heaven or get rewards or see your dead loved ones again. Now, without telling desperate lies, tell me that you would still LOVE Jesus. You would never love Jesus without the gifts that you think he has for you.

You don't really follow the teachings of Jesus either. Jesus says that when someone slaps you in the face, turn the other cheek. If you are like 99.9% of the Xians on this site, you slander people like me. You are supposed to love your enemies, but you hate your enemies. Jesus tells you to give everything to the poor and follow him. Most xians are filthy rich and have two cars and own a house and go on nice vacations. You only follow the laws of Jesus that you WANT to follow.

Jesus says that unless you have the righteousness of the Pharisees you will not see the kingdom of heaven. He tells you that he came to enforce the law. And yet not one xian actually follows Old Testament law. You just pick out the verses that condemn homosexuals, for instance, but forget about your own filthy sins. YOu tell us you are still a sinner and yet Jesus says that you have to go and sin no more and to be perfect as his father is perfect. He tells you that the road is narrow and only a few find the way but you ALL think you are that few. You think that the only thing that is necessary is some lame and silly belief that a man died for you. It is all about you. Grow up.

I used to follow the scientists.....human writers....etc. etc.....for many years......approx. 20 years......so I have much experience with that.

However.....Christ is the Seeker.

I was not seeking Him......but He was seeking me......and He Himself brought me to my senses......and delivered me.

That was back in 1988.....Sept.

I hope that He pays you a visit as well.

Re: Sinner's Prayer and how to be saved
Where did anyone pray a "sinner's prayer" to get saved in scripture? What chapter and verse?
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24230148

It is just a form of communication for people who do not know how to talk to God yet, it comes from many scriptures like

Acts 2:21 And it shall be, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.

Acts 2:38 And Peter said unto them, Repent ye, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on his name.

as you see from above post you can do your own words there are many

I know when I first got saved I did not know how to talk to God, they got started by early church

The sinner's prayer is an evangelical term referring to any prayer of repentance, spoken or read by individuals who feel convicted of the presence of sin in their life and desire to form or renew a personal relationship with God through his son Jesus Christ. It is not intended as liturgical like a creed or a confiteor. It is intended to be an act of initial conversion to Christianity, and also may be prayed as an act of re-commitment for those who are already believers in the faith. Often, at the end of a worship service, an evangelist will invite those desiring to receive Christ (thus becoming Christians) to repeat with him the words of some form of a sinner's prayer. It also is frequently found on printed gospel tracts, urging people to “repeat these words from the bottom of your heart”.[1]

OP, what happens after Baptism, when you are made a child of God, receiving His grace for the first time or after
repentance and confession of your sins and you fall, commit
a mortal sin? Do you just say the "sinners prayer" again?

What about the actions of your entire life, look at the sin
in the world right now. Explain.

God can't be in your soul, if you even have one mortal sin on your soul. Saved again, justified, just pray the "sinners prayer?"

How does the "sinners prayer" turn you away from
sin? Do you mean, your entire life? I didn't know
saying the "sinners prayer" makes you a saint here.

Sounds so easy. Explain.

That imputation business again. Jesus takes all your sins, I guess, the sins of your life and for some reason, you're in. No where is this in Scripture, the nonsense of imputation.

Re: Sinner's Prayer and how to be saved
A question that I constantly see repeated is this: "How do we claim that God is a merciful and loving God, when He allows us to be put on earth to be tormented by the devil and his minions, with the threat of eternal damnation if we do not embrace Him?"

I've asked this same question, and I've also wondered how God could let innocent people suffer. I believe that all suffering on earth is a result of sin (in some way or another) and that either our sin or the sins of others cause our own suffering, most of the time. This does not account for things beyond our control, such as natural disasters, etc.

I believe that God desperately wants us to turn away from the forces of evil and to embrace Him, but He allows Satan to torment us because He wants us to see the full error of our ways and what we welcome in when we invite Satan into our hearts.

If you opened this thread with evil intent, then shame on you. However, if you honestly are looking for an answer, we believe that we have found it in God and His Son Jesus Christ.

have come from it. This thread topic is a perfect example.

I'm not sure if the OP mentioned that you only needed to pray this prayer one time, I'm sure that was not the OP's intent. This is an example of a prayer that you can use for each and every time you have recognized that you have sinned. You don't have to say these exact words in that exact order, it is more about the spirit of the prayer than the letter of it.
"Be still, and know that I am God." Psalm 46:10

Truth needs no validation because it is self-evident and undeniable. Therefore, anything that requires validation to be realized or justified as truth must contain at least some degree of falsehood.

Re: Sinner's Prayer and how to be saved
Isn't this another Man Made prayer which man uses to replace the precise instructions Jesus gave for prayer?

Let me refresh your memory.

Matthew 6:7-13

But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.

After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.

Why do humans think they can invent better prayers than Jesus did?

All around the world alleged believers replace Jesus' instructions on prayer with prayers they have thought up themselves.

They ignore his precise teachings on prayer and invent their own! Men's words replacing Jesus'!

Isn't part of the definition of being a Christian to follow the teachings of Jesus?

He was pretty precise on prayer!

Re: Sinner's Prayer and how to be saved
"Faith Alone" is not true. Martin Luther came up with it.
Reject it, let go of it, Our Lord is coming soon. It messes up so many areas of the faith.

+ + +

If you want to pull the rug out from out under a Protestant, ask them to tell you what Psalm 106:30-31 means,

Then Phinehas stood up and intervened, and the plague was stayed.
And that was counted to him as righteousnes from generation to generation forever
.

As will be shown, this is one of the most devastating verses for Sola Fide in the whole Bible. It's right up there along with James 2:24 and Romans 10:9-10. I personally believe it has more to offer than those other passages because it hits the Protestant where he least expects it.

Most people have never seen Psalm 106:30-31, and the tiny minority of Protestants who do know about it keep it under tight wraps. Why? Because it targets one of their most "sacred" passages in Scripture, Romans 4:3-5 quoting Genesis 15:6 (Abraham believed God, and it was reckoned unto him for righteousness - and utterly demolishes their entire understanding of it. (In case you didn't notice, both verses use the identical Greek phrase for "credited as righteousness".)

Thanks for your reply hf. Sincere questions though...saying the sinners prayer every time you sin mortally? Where is that in the Bible Alone? I thought it
was the one time altar call?

Non-Catholic Christians reject Our Lord's words in establishing Confession to a priest (John 20:23). I thought every verse in Scripture was inerrant? So many holes. Protestants insist instead, we must confess our sins to one another so...
do you say your sins specifically out loud when you pray
the "sinners prayer" each and every time you commit a serious sin (mortal)? How is saying the "sinners prayer"
confessing your sins to one another? I have Protestant friends, they never do this....

God bless you R.S.,

Thank you, and God bless you also :-)

I do not pretend to have all the answers, and I am always learning new things (at least I hope I am...). I believe that the words we use are not as important as the honesty in our heart. Personally, I simply talk to God in my head throughout the day :-)

Re: Sinner's Prayer and how to be saved
To repeat:

I'm late to this party and apologize in advance for not wading through all those pages. I'd like to hope that someone has already said something like this, but just in case...

We can't just make up what's true; we can't just swallow whatever theory sounds nice. That isn't the way to know anything. Some say your mind is the obstacle to knowing; I say, "how would you know"? It's circular reasoning, and well-labeled a fallacy, to use your mind to conclude that your mind is the problem.

Others say, "here are some magic words; say them and you'll feel different". And if/when it doesn't "take", they say it's your fault. They want feeeeelings; they want signs and wonders to impress THEM rather than God; they want a show; they want control.

But that's not what God wants.

The Bible is God's word to us, his explanation, his communication. If we want to know how to be saved, that's where we should look. Not "within", not the stars, not church buildings or priests or emotionally-manipulative music.

Forget about dredging up all your sins, since you don't even know what that means apart from God. Forget about feeeeling really, really, really, REALLY sorry. Forget about putting on a show, because God isn't impressed.

Instead, just trust Jesus to save you, and do it for the purpose of being on good terms with God. It's all about reconciliation, which means that it can't be earned or showboated or faked. If you accept that God loves you and became one of us to prove it, to the point of dying, and then rising again, then you will find that sorrow for sins-- meaning things that grieve God-- will be something you willingly renounce. Relationship first; repentance from sins second. That's what reconciled people do.

Prayer is just talking to God, the way you'd talk to a respected elder, especially one who made it free and simple to spend eternity with him. So just tell him you accept what Jesus did for you and you want to be reconciled with him.

That's it. Really.
Have I now become your enemy by telling you the truth? (Gal. 4:16)

“Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from you. I am truly sorry, and now I want to turn away from my past sinful life toward you. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus' name I pray, Amen.”

Re: Sinner's Prayer and how to be saved
Dear Lord I pray that you take a good hard look at your creation. I look around here and see something really messed up. I know you blame it on us with our free will and all, but I don't remember choosing to be born here on earth in the first place. It seems to me that by knowing our human nature you knew what might happen since you are the creator and all. It also seems by giving us free will allowed you some sorta excuse to wash your hands clean of any thing that would go wrong with the world kinda like Pilot washing his hands of the death of Jesus. So I guess God, maybe you should get on your knees and beg forgiveness from every being you have created that has experienced pain and suffering as a result of your hands. Amen.
