This country is falling apart. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 13127957 Go to your local social security office. They have all kinds of programs that you might qualify for....including food stamps. I don't encourage people to be lazy and just draw money from the system, but people like you are what it's for. You're working hard, and doing your best. Get help until you can get on your feet. Terrible advice, advocating government hand out over working. That is not what social security is for. Educate yourself. Did you not read that correctly? 1.) He said he works. Therefore, he's not lazily holding his hand out. 2.) I specifically said I didn't support assistance for those who were NOT working. If people are working, and it's still not enough, then these programs will help fill in the blanks. The only times it's a problem is if people LIVE off this assistance, and refuse to work. They have a sense of entitlement. Everyone is not like this. There are genuinely good people out there trying as hard as they can. Food stamps not meant to fund your entire grocery bill. Also, they are not meant for you to stay on them forever. Work hard. Get any additional help you need. When you get a better job or a promotion, get off the program and don't take advantage of it. |

Everyone will me much happier. :) Reminds me of a barter type system that was in place here years ago - unsure if it still is. LETS - Local Exchange Trade System. I pay a small admin fee, maybe ten bucks. I have a trade, goods or service/s to offer in exchange with other members. So the exchange rate is 'green dollars'. I do a haircut and charge another member 20 green dollars. My account is credited. Down the track, I have a need for a trade/goods/service.. I've now earned 300 green dollars. I can credit it to any other member who provides what I request. Totally fair, from what I see. Brilliant. Legal. An 'association'. Edit to add: cool! it's still in operation, and global! Here's the link for the Oz LETS: [link to www.lets.org.au] (deserves a thread of it's own) Last Edited by o~SmallCircles~o on 10/01/2012 01:32 AM |

Harry_Canyon User ID: 19473723 United States 10/01/2012 02:34 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I have $5 right now. On any given week, I spend about 5 of those days with a balance close to this. Wife and I both work part time due to job availability to make ends meet. I make about $700 a month take home, she makes closer to $500. Recently, was judged against in court on failure to pay medical bills (Despite fact that I stated I had no way to pay when I arrived at the hospital), and have been ordered to pay $2500 to a crooked collection agency who had my medical records (HIPPA violation), a bill with duplicate charges (Fraud), and a signed affidavit dated 10 years incorrectly (Incorrect notarized legal document.) Despite my financial situation, a judge has decided that I owe money I do not have, to people who have no business with this debt (attempted to work out payment with hospital, but when I asked to see the itemized bill to verify I was not being charged incorrectly [see above to understand that I was] I was told that they were not going to negotiate the total, just how I was going to pay. The next communication came from this collection company.) and despite the paperwork that is so clearly mis-dated that the whole thing should have been thrown out, but the judge, in his infinite wisdom, denied that the only paperwork that was notarized had the date 2001 as opposed to 2011 on it, instead insisting it "looks like a 1 to me." (for my point, he is the only person who has felt that way since I was served.) Whaddaya going to do? I lost my car in a big freeze here a couple of years ago, and have been driving a borrowed vehicle. I rent in a bad neighborhood just because it is in my price range, and I walk anywhere within three miles of my house to save gas. Never put myself as a burden of the state, with food stamps, welfare, handouts, though I did take out a few small college loans which I have been paying back by allowing a voluntary garnishment of my taxes till it is paid off... I may be poor as an ear of corn, but I DO try to not be a deadbeat and pay what I owe. So that's it... Looking at it, I wonder why I wrote this at all. :P "He who makes a beast of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man." ~Dr. Johnson "Success breeds complacency. Complacency breeds failure. Harry_Canyon User ID: 19473723 United States 10/01/2012 03:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Though I will opine that the instant I can afford me some prime wilderness land, I am taking my camping, hunting, fishing, farming gear and living out there until I drop dead in the brush. In fact, I have a few people who would be keen to join me in a sort of commune; Building our own homes, tilling our own soil, and tapping our own wells. "The Man" must be aware of my plans, as I have never been able to get my head above financial water long enough to get a good breath before someone up there whacks me with an oar. Every time I have had any extra money, some emergency comes up that requires twice what I have... Every time, like clockwork. "Look honey! Fifty dollars!" *BooM* <~sound of either tire abruptly blowing out, or hot water heater bursting. "Holy cow! I found a whole C-Note!" Cat gets very sick, or food spoils. "Yeah Baby! I just got $1000 reward for finding a lady's purse!" House burns down, taking all my meager possessions with it, or family tragedy requires time off work and travel expenses... Sometimes I find bliss in being rock-bottom poor. "He who makes a beast of himself, gets rid of the pain of being a man." ~Dr. Johnson "Success breeds complacency. Complacency breeds failure. Not even sure if this was to me or not. Golf? how old do you think I am? And you can air quote my job all day long, but it is honest work and all I can do right now. So sorry if it does not meet your standards, but at least I am not in line for an Obamaphone, or leeching your taxes through welfare. I live on a pittance, but it is MY pittance. Quoting: parabola 3449552 the internet is a wise investment, I don't know how many times it pays for itself every month. All the things I look up how to fix, the things I can order online and save money. The searchable information of a million libraries, a library of a billion videos, you should sell your kidneys before you get rid of your internet. |
