Sorry, but obesity is an epidemic in the United States and it isn't caused by the Tooth Fairy--it's caused by people who put too many calories into their mouths.

Heart disease is easily, -easily- the #1 killer of people in this country. Do we need to pretend that obesity and heart disease aren't related, just so we don't hurt some people's feelings?

Do we need to teach children that it's okay to be fat--just so they can die in their 40's with a smile?

We have a responsibility to teach our children the -facts-, not to shield them from reality because of our -own- inability to face up to the truth.

That email was certainly terse and critical, but it was in no way an attack. It was a blunt statement of fact. She is overweight, and yes, she is in the public eye and yes, it just might be sending a bad message.

Hurt feelings or not, maybe it's time this woman got a little tough love instead of delusional support. It just might save her life.

Wow, the level of stupidity in this thread saddens me. Many of the comments on here show a level of immaturity that is hard to believe. The tendency by so many on this site to belittle, respond in a rude fashion and attack others shows just how screwed up our society has become. It is precisely because of the type of behaviour that is displayed by so many on here, which is so prevalent on the internet, that others feel compelled to push for a clamp down on what is allowed on the internet. In the long run it is self-defeating for those who claim to want freedom of speech, but insist in acting like moral reprobates from behind the safety of their computer monitor.

The lack of civility and the ease with which 'anonymous' individuals can attack others and cause irreparable damage is why we will eventually see some controls over internet usage. The users will have no one to blame but themselves.

There's nothing wrong with comforting a person who has bullied and to come to their aid. There IS something wrong with using bullying as a control mechanism by shaming the person who does the supposed bullying into not expressing his or her opinion.

not true. Firstly she isnt that overweight, what s she ..... probably a size 16 -18. Plenty of those running around past 45 and not as many of them ave health issues as you might think.

And guess what? if your a woman over 5ft 7 and weigh more than 55 kilos you will be considered fat, 20 years from now, and receive less food allotments as a result.

Teach your children to be fat if you choose--that's your business. But when someone uses a tv show to start evangelizing how people should be raising their kids in such a manner as to not hurt her feelings, we are well within our rights to respond in kind on the internet.

You have people telling you how to raise your children and discipline them, telling you how to eat, how to work, what air you should breathe, what water you should drink, what kind of vehicle you should buy, what temperature is best for you in your own home, how to dress, what perfect weight you should be, what words you can and cannot say, what doctors you can see, what medical insurance you must have, what limits on car insurance you must carry, how much you can inherit from the death of your loved ones, how much you should pay the government in taxes and what color you should be to get ahead in this country.
